Nurgle or slaanesh fear tactics?

Recommended Posts

I love the concept of spreading fear. So the night lords are pretty cool and an obvious choice, but I also love the chaos gods Nurgle and slaanesh. I wanna do a mono god army that centralises it's beliefs around causing fear. So which (in your opinions) would be the better god to follow for utilising fear tactics - Nurgle or slaanesh?

Thanks.

Edit: I meant this in terms of fluff, not game wise.

I would like to chime in for Slaanesh.

Not only do their tactics cause fear, panic, dread, terror, etc but the Night Lords begin to relish it. Possibly even crave it to the point of addiction. The chance to cause torment and to "play with their food" gives them adrenaline rush that fires all cylinders in an VIII normally gloomy existence. The first few times under Slaanesh's embrace (whether they know it or not) it felt amazing and exhilarating just to see the fear in the eyes of their prey. Yet after awhile of constantly killing things while trying to induce fear and dread the sensation has gotten stale and they begin to find new ways to heighten the terror they cause to get a bigger high.

Or something like that. Sorry, I smell my waffles nearing completion for breakfast...

Both the same actually I'd say.

None specialise in specific fear causing tactics in battle but both infuse their enemy with fear just by being what they are.

Slaanesh forces love to see you suffering so they might not end things as quickly as they could and pray to the gods if they capture you alive. It's also not very pleasent to be on the receiving end of their Sonic weaponry.

Nurgle forces love to spread diseases etc....and not the ones like the common flu obviously. Just being near them could ruin your life even if you manage to defeat them.

So yeah none of the aim to inflict fear and terror as part of their tactic...it just kinda happens by doing what they do. You have the choice between mind shattering weapons that let you suffer for a while plus the danger of getting captured by those sadistic creeps.....or having to face a wall of power armor and diseased flesh that doesn't slow down no matter how much plasma you rain on them and that make you sick just by being near them.

Both pretty terrifying forces to face. ;)

I'd go Slaanesh all the way.

While not a specific tenant of either of them, Slaanesh is far more about artistry, pride and perfecting your chosen path so far more likely to capture a band of the VIII legion as they push themselves harder and further along the path to the best deployment of their primarchs teachings.

Nurgle on the other hand is more about spreading grandfather nurgle's gifts and encouraging others to embrace them. While despair and fear are a bi product of that path I don't see it as a primary tactic. Thats not to say fluff couldn't be made to make it work especially if a warband was run by a former apothecary with an obsession with bio weapons and the shock effect they have.

Fundamentally I think Slaanesh would be the more common approach and Nurgle might have the more complex ideas behind it to start with.

Without a doubt, Nurgle. In our cushy modern lives, I think it is easy to forget the pathological fear incurable disease represents. People do crazy things when the plague comes around. Families abandon their stricken siblings, parents, and children, all without realizing they are already incubators for the infection themselves. Soldiers abandon their weapons and flee in the face of an invisible, ever-advancing enemy. Societal control breaks down as the powerful die along with the poor, and the chain of command shatters. Medicine fails, so the people cling to their faith- but that offers no salvation either and temples and churches fill with dying penitents.

This all happened during the Black Plague... but in the 41st Millennium, the threat of the disease is enhanced by the fact that hulking abominations are actively trying to eradicate any and all holdouts.
