Thanks for sharing with us all of this marvelous work you are doing. Your modesty does you great credit, but your work is clearly first rate..... thanks again for sharing:thumbsup:

Thanks for all the kind words, but most of the credit goes to the painters on this board as I basically flit from thread to thread to asking questions about techniques and paint ratios....then shamelessly steal that knowledge and use it on my own stuff.

Used some transfers for these vehicles, can definitely say that microsol and microset do make a difference and are not a useless gimmick. (although you probably cannot see the effect from the small picture)

I forgot to say that I liked the decals. I need to get some Sons of Horus ones and figure out how to use that Microsoft/micro set stuff. It really makes decals look like they aren’t sheets on paper.

The microsol stuff is unbelieveably good for putting a decal over a curved or ridged surface. It honestly makes the decal look painted on. I wasn't really buying into it until today but now I am a believer !

Finally these rhinos near completion, I need to detail the bolters, the headlamps and maybe add another transfer on the sides but they are so close !

Already started on the next chunk of armour as well, make hay whilst the sun shines I always say.

I might try something new on this raider, maybe add some black sections with masking or try a stencil, I am enjoying learning new techniques so forgive me if I seem overly excited about what some might view as basic modelling.

I also have 3 Deimos Predators lined up after this is done then my armour fire support and transport should be covered for a while.

Dude, I am excited to see more armor painted. You’ve painted more tanks recently than I had in the last half decade.

And I am excited to see new techniques too. Mostly as I am a fan of permanently ‘borrowing’ ideas from others.

Tanks (=D) Hushrong, All the blue and green is done now, it's ready for the details and such. I chickened out of the stencil idea but I did do the side doors and bits of the guns black for some contrast against the huge swathes of teal.

Keen to see some updates on your new Sons of Horus/Black Legion project, that globe sorcerer guy seems to be a favorite on this board and I wager everyone else wants to see him in his new Legion colours just as much as I do.

This is sort of just a convoluted way of saying you learned stuff.

Your achievements are not invalidated or less impressive because you learned how to do it somewhere.

Another little update, I don't know if it's sort of the right thing to do by showing these miniscule updates but I am a very slow painter so it's all I got !

Hopefully get the tracks on later and start working on the details. (I prepainted the tracks, because after the rhinos I learnt a big lesson...trying to paint tracks that are already glued and covered in glossy metallic blue is a proper headache)

If your a slow painter then I fear what kind of painter I am :) You’re making great progress!

Land raider is coming along nicely! As for painting over the glossy paint does applying nuln oil and letting it dry before painting help? It helped me on the little of my AL I painted.

  • 2 weeks later...

Unable to really push the painting lately due to irl crap, lots of spare time inc though so back to it soon :)

In the meantime I was able to knock up some kill team members for a heresy era Shadow War ruleset I am helping to playtest.

They are not strictly Alpha Legion but I doubt a handful of marines require their own topic.

Here is Sgt Harran, my sword specialist and team leader, he needs a little more cleaning especially the arms but he's almost ready for painting.

Drat! I was hoping that was a legion infiltrator.

Or is it?

Mind games!

Harran looks sweet and interested in seeing him get some paint! Hoping you take some battle pics and post some reports on this HH shadow war!

Don't worry Hushrong, I enjoyed making Harran so much that my Alphas will get their equivalent 'running melee' guy as well. We are starting a new campaign soon featuring 1k sons, sisters of silence, dark angels and my raven guard so I will get a few pics up when we clash. None of us currently play any Games Workshop games other than shadow war but several of us are building fairly large marine legions in preparations for some 30k madness (we are all recently returned to the grimdark after some 10 or 20 years out :P)

Also thank you both for the kind words. I am trying to get my group to post their work here but they seem to prefer facebook for some reason :I

Since Harran was well received I will add a quick pic of his teams fire support - Brother Diadoch

He is missing his cabling and some extra bits but he's got a bloody big choomer and an eye for heresy !

Apologies for the blur, couldn't seem to get him and the culverin in focus at teh same time. Bedtime for me finally I think :tongue.:

Diadoch looks ready to deliver the Choom!

That also sounds like quite the assortment of teams for shadow war so I am looking forward to seeing more pics. Shadow war was fun but it was short lived in my group. I am looking forward to what Kill Team may offer but if I can I'd like to get my group back into Heralds of Ruin. Thanks to that fan made gem I started my small Alpha Legion force.

Thank you Bluedoo, I can say from experience it really does change from a sparkling blue to a pure green depending on the time of day, or especially under different artificial lights...it's a bugger to photograph properly.

I was aiming to emulate the metallic forge world scheme so your comment is really appreciated. I had a lot of help from the other Alpha Legion painters on this board, I sorta tried every technique they had used utill I felt comfy enough to  smoosh them all together and add or remove steps as I felt needed.

Man, I spent a minute rubbing my eyes until I realized I was reading the French rules. Need to go get caffeine soon this morning haha.

The rules look pretty sweet and there is a bit of everything in there too! I may have to show this to my group and keep my fingers crossed that they will play. Thanks for sharing that Trixie
