Blue Blood Angels

Hi fellas

I love the BA aesthetic and their kits (Pretty marines have always appealed to me), but I also really love blue. I've done some test models with the Macragge blue spray, and safe to say I'm in love.

How much would it annoy people if I did a blue Blood Angels successor chapter? I was thinking of making them void specialists, with the blue representing how deoxygenated blood appears through our veins.

If this isn't the worst idea in human history I'll dump some more fluff.

I think it's actually weird we don't see more canon BA chapters that aren't red.  Especially since so many chapters don't actually know their geneseed origins you would think we'd be as varied as everyone else.

Since you asked so nicely;

The Void Angels chapter was formed from Blood Angels geneseed during an unknown founding to combat an increasing number of piratical raids into Imperial space, from both abhorrent Xenos and chaos marauders.

They initially operated as a fleet-based chapter, where they developed a keen specialty for boarding actions and void warfare while taking the fight directly to the pirate's voidcraft - perhaps their gene-seed indicted aggression when applied to space-borne foes.

In M35 the chapter defended the ice world of Nyrth from the horrifying predations of the Slaugth, and valiantly sacrificed 200 Astartes by ramming the worm-mind's kingship with their battle barge and overloading the reactor. Strangely, the chapter's death Company were greatly diminished for centuries after the event.

As reward for its defence, the chapter was granted Nyrth as a permanent homeworld. Nyrth is home to a small number of hives, however the Void Angels mostly recruit from the gun-tribes living in the ruins which dot the tundra and dark forests between them.

The Void Angels are slightly brooding in nature, possessed of a gallows humour and isolationist temperament which other chapters and imperial forces find hard to relate to - at best, dealing with them is an awkward affair. Despite this the chapter does show care for the Imperium's human population as typical to many Blood Angels descendants, even if they have trouble expressing it at times.

The chapter shows a clear preference for Mk IV 'Maximus' armour, with many Astartes wearing it and the chapter's forge still able to produce new suits. Perhaps coincidentally, the Void Angels count an above-average amount of techmarines amongst their ranks (especially for a blood angels successor).

Nyrth's gun-tribes often submerge fallen warriors in ice water, believing they will one day possess the skill to 'unthaw' them. The Void Angels have absorbed this tradition into their chapter rituals, and cryogenically freeze their death Company between baffles.

Some blood angels successors have been reported to place their death companies in the pure sleep of stasis, but the crude act of cryogenesis is unique to the Void Angels. Disturbingly, some whisper that the frozen warriors are conscious the entire time and brood on their rage in excruciating cold.

As of M41 there are roughly 700 Void Angels in active service, the chapter's numbers depleted due to attritional and increasingly dangerous war zones.

There's a video batrep blood angels army knocking around (can't recall which, I'm afraid) that looks pretty sweet, plus these guys:

...from this old B+C post: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292348-blue-blood-angels-successor/?p=3720960

I was just getting ready to share these guys again when I spotted this thread, but you beat me to it.  Let me know if y'all want more pics of this army that aren't in that older original post.

I absolutely loved that striking blue scheme with the white highlights - still looks terrific after all of these years.  Just imagine how nice it would be with modern bases and the newest plastic models.
