Alessia's Wip Sororitas + extra bitz

Recommended Posts

Hiya peeps! Thought I would start a lil blog to show my Order of our Martyred Lady progress. I've already got enough miniatures for around 750 points of Sisters, so I will be working on this first. I will then be adding additional units as I game and learn.

This was my test piece, just to get my colour palette down. I've always loved the look of black power armour, but I didn't know how to paint it. Thought I would just have a go and I really liked the results. I later refined this recipe as you can see in the group shot. I added blending on the robes and I did washes on the hair and slowly high lighted it back up. I'm not going for a super high standard, as I would like to get this army out and gaming asap.

Group shot of my SWA killteam. They are nearly finished, just need some additional high lighting and dead grass.

Since I've only just started painting again, I don't have much to show yet. But here Is a Titan and an Ultramarine I painted for someone years ago.

Looking good. I really like the knight you've painted, and the Ultramarine's not bad either.

Out of curiosity, where do you get your SoB models? They're very pricey from GW, and even from eBay preowned, they are very expensive. Price is probably one of the only things stopping me getting a few models, because they do have some nice sculpts.

Keep up the good work.

Good looking sisters you've painted up. I have five left that I want to make into a KT for SWA myself.

Your leaders weapon gave me some nostalgia about a favorite leader of mine from a different game as well.

@GreyRavenC I think that would be totally legit :biggrin.: I painted it for a friend, so I unfortunately no longer have it. Since I could never afford one, it was the only way I would get to paint one lol. I really enjoyed painting it! He asked for another 2, but I didn't have the time.

@Hushrong Awww thank you! And DO IT! Make those sisters into a lil killteam. You could easily get away with 5 models with the right gear! Well the hammer is from another game, so It might be there's

So I decided to just paint two black holes on the bolters. Works for me :smile.:

Next WIP batch of sisters. I thought It might be useful to have flamer options and more bolter sisters for SWA. They will also go towards another small unit for 40k and the extra flamer is an option for my other 5 girl squad. I'm aiming for a 500 point list, figuring it will still be fairly usable in 8th with tweeking.

Next batch of killer nuns :smile.: Painting in threes feels like a nice pace. Do people generally gloss sisters, as they are all metal? I already dropped one and nearly died! Luckily the miniature survived some how, but I'm scared they will chip with gaming.

Oomph, I'm not that familiar with all the different brands. You're better off with a quick search in the PCA-section.

If you're just as lazy to search as me, then I would recommend Vallejo. I use Vallejo Gloss to seal and Vallejo Matt to tone it back down. I've also heard good stuff about Humbrol. Just don't bother with GW's stuff. It works well enough, i've used it for years, but it's too expensive for the tiny amount you get.

Ta very much! Vallejo make my favourite paints, so I know I'm safe with them :) Not to lazy to search at all, I just figured a Dark Angels player would have plenty of metal in their army :biggrin.: Beautiful army by the way. I only just figured out clicking signiatures links to galleries lol. I'm such a noob! I really like Interrogator-Chaplain Semiazas, he looks such a bad ass! I also really like your attention to vehicle interiors, really lovely.

I use whatever they're calling Future Floor Wax these days as as heavy duty gloss coat to protect minis, and then hit it with a few layers of a matte varnish to knock the shine off.

Also, signatures only link to galleries if they've been linked to do so by the member. The two chain icons just above where you type your posts are used for that sort of thing. :)

No insult intended, I'm just a lazy git myself :laugh.: Thank you for the compliments (even in your own thread), you're too kind.

You'll learn the ways of the forum eventually, I found out the method of linking pictures months after my first post by clicking on one by accident.

Do you have any plans to include some Sisters of Silence in the future? The new models are pretty good.

Very nice work on the Sister Superior conversion, I really like the hammer it gives it a very gothic feel and fits the original style of the model very well.

For varnish I've started using Windsor & Newton Matt UV Varnish and it works really well but while applying gloss varnish can give the effect of armoured plates quite well it won't look so good on materials and skin.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hiya all! Just a quick update on what I'm working on. I've got a few days free to do some painting, so I should hopefully finish all the below miniatures for the weekend. These are all still super wip! The Seraphim picture isn't the best angle, as she is a lot higher up than it seems. Just need to make one more Immolater and my 500 point army will all be assembled.

@GreyRaven I do have plans for converting some Sisters of Silence into Celestians ;) As soon as I've finished painting up my 500 point list, they are going to be my next purchase.

@Doghouse Thank you for the recommendation. I use Windsor and Newton brushes, they are the bomb. I've ordered some Vallejo varnishes, but didn't realise the delivery was for the end of June :( So I might get some W&N ones to give a try in the mean time. I already had a sister lose the skin off her nose, after being gunned down by Eldar the other day. Thank you, I LOVE her hammer. I've been using it as a power axe, as it seems most fitting. Hopefully we can take Thunder Hammers in 8th :)

Hey lovelies! Managed to finish 3 more Battle Sisters, my first Seraphim and a Vet Sister Superia. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to finish my Immolater, but I'm pleased with my progress so far. I might even have my 500 point list painted before 8th hits :)
