Prot's Thousand Sons VS. AdMech WarConvo (1850 PICS)

'Twas the night before 8th, not a creature was stirring... except one eyed Magnus.... hoping to wreak havok upon the Imperium a few more times before 8th edition.....

So this is a good close game with some pics of a game playing ITC Scenario #5 (I think) Big Guns Never Tire with Maelstrom points of course.

I took a basic Sekhmet led by Magnus and a Tzaangor Warherd..... we would be on a grass planet and I felt it was time I gave the goats some grass to chew on instead of gravel, and rhino bits!

I also had a small Allied Detachment of Tzeentch Herald and some Blue Horrors.

The Admech was sporting a War Convocation with a Culexus, and Inquisitor Coteaz. Of course there's lots of stuff I can't pronounce in this fancy Admech army so excuse my ignorance as I refer to such units as 'OP armpits of the Omnisiah' etc, etc. There's lots of Grav of course and a Knight and naturally it is all led by Baller-sarius.

Game Start:

- I win the roll to deploy/go first and I do. I feel I need to get Magnus in the air before he is shot down by a myriad of Grav and autocannons and the Knight of course.

gallery_2760_12702_60717.jpg

+ Magnus demands the Tzaangors to get out in front and chew on some grass to distract the enemy from a giant, flying Peacock from hell. No one will notice... +

- I deploy defensively as Coteaz gets two shots at stealing the initiative. I keep Magnus back... he can sense the Culexus in the pit of his stomach and won't make the same mistake he did on Mars with Guilliman and the Sisters... (That is to say I fear the total shut down of Psychic powers whereas Magnus would apparently rather take his father's burning sword in the chest and ignore the threat!)

- Admech deploys in standard defense formation:

01001000 01101001 01100100 01100101 00100000 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01110011 01101000 01101111 01101111 01110100 00100000 01000111 01110010 01100001 01110110

- But it appears Sorcery > Science as the Admech do not manage to steal the initiative.

Early Game:

- I roll for my 2 objectives but only one is remotely doable.... I can kill a unit somehow. I'm not sure what to do about the Knight as only one Sorc rolled Scrapcode curse and I know if I peek my head out, I'm going to lose a lot of Termies. So the only thing I am certain about is.... Charge the Tzaangors!

My Sorc termie gives the Astra Move ability to a squad of goats that get a first turn charge off but die horribly.

- In that turn, Magnus jumped up as well and "Treasoned of Tzeentch" the Baller-sarius Grav squad getting them to shoot up Coteaz and the secondary squad of Gravatronic Plumping bitz on Riding Lawnmowers. (I believe that isn't their technical name, but I'm not arguing with Magnus)

- This mass of killing happens JUST outside of the Culexus ability to stop it. The mayhem is severe. Coteaz's bird is fried off of his shoulder, and the lawnmower bits are strewn about the battlefield. I'm sure Belasarius isn't happy he did that, but he was under the influence of a tall dark glass of Magnus.

- To end my turn, the Herald fails to summon anything.... which would apparently be a 'thing' this game.

gallery_2760_12702_214420.jpg

+ Stiff legged martian goofballs nervously await Belasarius' next order after he annihilated his own men +

- In retaliation a lot of shots are fired at Magnus but only Tzaangors take a real hit in this turn. I consider myself very lucky but the Admech would get two objectives that they are sitting on top of in their own zone this turn.

Turn 2:

gallery_2760_12702_524256.jpg

+ Magnus leads the charge from the safety of the sky. The Sekhmet cautiously follows. +

gallery_2760_12702_496972.jpg

+ The second squad of the Warherd get to grips with the Culexus. His anti-psyker aura does not displease them. Instead they see him as one in a long line of Culxus' they must chew to death. +

- The Tzaangors get a 10" charge which kicks in their bonus, however I only do one wound total, and he does the same back!

- Magnus must make a decision here.... he has been hogging most of the Warp Charges but really aside from the big T1 Treason cast on Belasarius, he needs to obviously do more since the rest of the army is basically doing nothing... well except the Tzaangors!

gallery_2760_12702_531759.jpg

+ Magnus surveys the situation. All is going according to his plan... except the Knight!+

+ Magnus decides to ignore the Knight as ITC ranged D is not as potent as it needs to be for a one shot. Instead he turns his attention to the squads in front of Belasarius, and Belasarius himself.

+ Magnus gets off Siphon and starts replenishing his pool by casting a few smaller powers. The first is Flickering Fire and I get very lucky with 15+ shots and they end up finishing off a squad of tin men (already removed from picture above).

+ Next I cast two beams that go through Belasarius' squad and hit the squad behind him as well. Belasarius Tanks ALL wounds! The guy might look like two Necrons getting busy under a picnic blanket, but he's no slouch. I think the Admech had a full army wide 4++ in this turn as well. (It's either this turn or next turn.)

+ to end my turn... I'll just copy and paste my last turn:

- To end my psychic phase, the Herald fails to summon anything.... which would apparently be a 'thing' this game.

The Admech: Revenge of the Nerds? Or... an Eye for an Optic?

- The Admech reserves come in and they need the #2 marker in my Zone. He infiltrates right on queue, and comes in with these spindly legged things with Necron arms basically....

- The rest of the turn the Admech do put some wounds on Magnus, and he fails his grounding test! He crashes, but not a feather, nor horn is damaged.

- Some of the Sekhmet is starting to take a beating. Pretty much as soon as he could reach out to one of the Sekhmet they started falling.

- Ironically the most eventful death this turn is the Culexus. this would be big as it opened up Magnus' abilities to cast Maledictions on Baller who was previously within the Culexus 12" circle of love.

Turn 3-4:

- Magnus' Warp Charge pool was starting to thin out. Would the Tzeentch Daemons finally summon... anything?

- Magnus is still grounded. I make the possible mistake of electing to keep him on the ground. He moves away from the Knight and hits the Knight with a couple of beams and gets some Hullpoints off the Knight. Magnus also "Treasons" Belasarius' squad and gets them to shoot all Grav into the Knight which only causes 1 unsaved (Shields Up!) hullpoint. The Knight is down to 1 Hullpoint.

gallery_2760_12702_332032.jpg

+ Still Magnus can foresee a potential for his death in close combat with the Knight. +

- My admech opponent tried to convince me there was no concern, that Magnus would kill the Knight in CC. Of course I am used to such low level jedi mind tricks as the Tzaangor are always manipulating Magnus to go to grassy planets. It would not work this time.... although we are on a grass planet. (Tzaangor are tricky beasts)

- The Tzaangor approach Belasarius' squad. Magnus would rip into them with a few psychic attacks but Belasarius would tank as per usual. (I'm pretty sure the Emperor would still be alive today if Belasarius had made him a red house coat.)

- Finally Magnus gets off Force, and charges into Belasarius, who to his credit, did accept the challenge in close combat.

- Force combined with Transmorgify combine for brutal effects. The FIRST wound on Belasarius is indeed a 6! With a failed Invuln, it appears Magnus has conjured an equally handsome, cycloptic pet......

gallery_2760_12702_9418.jpg

+ Meet the one eyed hunk of love aptly named "Belly".+

- A second Transmorgification would turn a Gravatronic-riding-lawnmower into a friend for Belly to play with. (They would have to fight over the red bathrobe though.)

- That was very succesful, and although feeling rather deflated, the Admech did have a chance, albeit slim, at killing Magnus here, but first one more final note on my turn:

gallery_2760_12702_226565.jpg

+

- To end my psychic phase, the Herald fails to summon anything.... which would apparently be a 'thing' this game.

- One other thing of note.... the sneaky spindly Necrons... er robots that infiltrated were becoming a problem in my zone! They started to maul my Tzaangors pretty bad so I send in the heavy muscle

gallery_2760_12702_37509.jpg

+ Okay so Tzaangors are getting wacked by Necron, er Admech technology. (Tesla was created by Admech right? Nothing to see here.) So I send in the super sized Dust Bunnies. +

In Turns 4-5 it gets serious.

- The one eyed beauty known as Belly wanders off with his playmate and they go to chew on some retreating Admech with long rifles. A few spindly Walkers are shot off the board by Treason of Tzeentch.

- The Knight and what's left of the Admech shoot mostly at Magnus. He's low on wounds. the Sekhmet is surprisingly shot up! I have one partial squad left, and one squad stuck in with the Necron Admech.

- The close combat between the Knight and Magnus finally happens.

- The bad news is.... my Scarab Occult that decided to mop up for the failed Tzaangors did not... err.. really pan out as Magnus said it would. I could not take down those ridiculously resilient Admech/Necrons, and he puts 3 wounds on my Scarab Termie, and Sorcerer, but they have No AP value so no problem, right?.....

gallery_2760_12702_245857.jpg

+ Yup this roll just happened. Thank you for not telling us about this little hitch in the plans Magnus. (all Termies died.)+

- In his turn I failed to touch the Knight, and he takes Magnus down to one wound! Yup... in my turn it's all pretty much coming down to this...

gallery_2760_12702_482956.jpg

+ Will "Belly" lose his master? Will Magnus ever get sick of saying "Me so Thorny"? Will the Knight avenge the death of the only person that knew how to adjust his headlights? Almost none of this will be answered this turn.... +

- Psyker wise the Thousand Sons are spent. Very few warp charges remain.

- With the death of the Scarab Occult to the Admech/Necron this leaves the Blue Horrors and Herald (whom have failed to summon for 4 turns in a row) to deal with the last Admech infiltrator. The Blue Horrors decide to cast Flickering Fire and they pass! YES they finally pass a test... but it's a Perils, and they roll a 1, and kill 3 of their own models, and fail to put a wound on the last Admech guy! WOW. I am stunned at the level of fail these guys are capable of. Tzeentch really needs to reconsider their hiring standards.

- Magnus gets off a Malediction, but obviously while engaged he cannot do much else, so he blesses himself to get that 3++ going as his life is hanging by a thread!

- The last Tzaangors move in for an assault on the last rifleman Admech squad... and roll snake eyes. Ouch. The last 3 Terminators I have left are hugging terrain in his zone for "line breaker". Otherwise there is nothing but smoking corpses and dead goats everywhere..... and Belly and his friend playing amongst the carnage.

- Magnus gets to attack first in close combat all but one of his 6 attacks smash into the Knight. The problem has been me not rolling a 5+ to damage the Knight but this time I get one 6! One 6 gets through, but we roll the results and get an "explodes"!!!

- I stupidly decide I will roll the deviation for the Knight exploding... it deviates literally 4" right over the middle of Magnus' head! We roll on the D chart to see if Magnus goes 'poof' and the Admech roll a one! Whew... that was too close.

- Endgame sees a full Maelstrom Victory, Big Guns victory, and Tertiary points for Thousand Sons. I feel very lucky to have pulled that out and part of it was my own stupidity, or should I blame Magnus' arrogance (?) for deciding to stay on the ground.... that almost cost me the game really. The rest of the army barely functions with Magnus in the list. They get starved of warp charges. But all is good today. Magnus walks away with new pets, and the goats get to feed on grass and dead robot parts. smile.png

Thanks for reading.

Awesome report Prot!!

Seriously great job with Magnus too! Nice to see two fully painted armies against each other. I feel in my state no one takes painting seriously and I'm the only one with a fully painted army(ies)

Hilarious report, although I bet you find it a little funnier now then when it was occurring. The above line just cracked me up.

I look forward to more "Misadventures with Magnus" in the future.

I love every aspect of the game and I'm fortunate to say most of the locals do too.

Oh heck yea. All that Grav is scary to stare down. I loved yelling 'Spawn' though at turning the big man into another one-eyed super stud.

I have to admit though I am surprised no one has taken a crack at the Binary yet ;).

I was on my phone when I read it earlier. happy.png

Hide and shoot Grav

Seems like the best ad-mech tactic out there, hehe biggrin.png
