WIP - Dark Angels Company Master Balthasar

Replica

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

These guys go cheap on eBay - so i picked up a bunch for practice. I've started 2 so far, this one is the third, and I'm determined to finish at least one!

I've attempted to recreate the texture of a heavy woven fabric, like a monks robe. I am fairly content with it at the moment, but i would like to continue the texture into the shaded areas, and maybe reduce the thickness of some of the lines.

All Comments and criticism is more than welcome!

Thanks for looking!

Great texture, are those lines all hand painted? If so that's some amazing brush control you have.

Thanks mate! Yep, all hand painted, some are a little thicker than I would like, so ill need to do some touch ups!

I think you really captured that heavy monk robe fabric. Looks fab so far!

Thanks! Really appreciate it!

Oh that looks really nice.  As Sister Alessia said, looks like real monk robes.

Cheers, I'm gonna try to do a similar texture on his other...sash...thing?

The hatching on that robe really does nail it mate, I think you have captured the feel of the heavy fabric really well!

Thanks! Much appreciated!

I agree with the above the robes look very great the texture looks really nice.

Thank you very much!

Thank you all for taking the time to look and comment!

I've done some more work on this guy, I've done a little weathering on the cloak/robe. Its not really visible in the pics though haha.

I wanted to do a limited colour pallet on him, so i stuck with green, red, gold as much as possible.Anyway, here's the pics:

The textures are looking great. I look forward to seeing him finished!

Thanks mate! Nearly done on him!

Finished up on this guy, practised some NMM gold and some of the other details.

Not 100% stoked with the NMM, gonna have to keep practising, but I'm pretty pleased how he has turned out so far. Next up is basing, which I'm planning on doing in a snow/rocky theme.

Wow!! Beautiful work!

Only nitpick would be the transition light green on the backpack to the left of the wings comes across as a little stronger than the rest.

Yes! - I didn't see that until you pointed it out, good eye! I'll run some glazes over it and soften it down a bit, cheers!

Very nice.

Cheers Pearson!

Replica is back from the dead! Welcome, brother! If I remember correctly, you helped Pig of Sparta set up the International Brotherhood of Hobbyists all of those years ago.

Anyway, great work so far. Can't wait to see him fully finished. :tu:

solidly dark angel, nice to see quality being baked in on a single model, I'm hoping you develop a whole army

Cheers! No plans on a whole army yet, I haven't played in years! Maybe 8th ed will get me back into gaming rolleyesclean.gif

Hi all,

Finished the base on this guy. I felt a snow base would look cool, and it was an excuse to try out GW's Valhallan Blizzard!

Had a lot of fun with this model, and I learned a lot from attempting the texture, and working with the green (he is my first DA).

Apologies for the phone-camera pics, I think i will have to brush up on my picture taking skills!

Huge thank you to those who took the time to view this thread, and/or commented - your input and encouragement was invaluable!

really beautiful work, love the details absolutely amazing, the only suggestions i could come up with to even try and add something would be adding black lines between the different parts, that and pushing the highlights just a bit more i think it woukd add to it make all the model more defined and more eyecatching from afar, draw ppl in to really look at your exeltent textures and hard work.

im really impressed so far great great work!

Cheers mate! Not enough contrast on the green, you're saying? I can see that, I think i might do another one of these minis, or I'll definitely do some more Dark Angels, so I'll keep your suggestion in mind - much appreciated :)
