ORIGIN OF THE CHAPTER:

During the beginning of the Horus Heresy, the Adeptus Custodes known as Salvator was walking past a Blood Angels recruitment and training facility when a warp rift opened nearby and sucked in the entire facility, and Salvator. They landed on the world Portum III in the Segmentum Obscuris, M41 702.

Salvator immediately assumed command and found that the gene seed had been altered, making it much closer to the genes of Sanguinius himself. As such, the Astartes created with this gene seed will sprout angelic wings after a number of years in active service.

The Angels Incarnate see this as a sign of experience, so the marine that sprouted wings is immediately promoted. A very small number of the marines have an ability with foresight, and can use that ability to dodge fatal incoming shots.

The neophytes that were becoming marines during the warp travel were all dead so they immediately started making marines from the 20,000 neophytes present. Salvator quickly found that a smaller percentage of neophytes became marines, due to the altered gene seed. The ones that survived, 300 of them, were given training from Salvator and the marines that were present for training. If a battle brother excelled in a certain type of fighting, they were assigned to either a tactical, devastator, assault, scout, bike or tank squad. Promotions then lead to becoming a sergeant, veteran, captain or to bigger tanks.

As the Angels Incarnate, then known as the Lost, spread out they realized that the world of Portum III was full of chaos cults and people going along with it to save their skins, but keeping to the Imperial Creed, all on the southern and equatorial continents. The northern landmass, where the facility had landed, was inhospitable thanks to the predatory lizards that meant certain death to all but Astartes and the neophytes within the void shields.

The Lost spread from the northern continent, freeing the loyal population and purging the cults. They then moved on to clearing the other four chaos infested planets in the system. It was during these crusades that the first wings began to sprout from the backs of the marines, both giving rise to the name Angels Incarnate and the promotion system.

They managed to get a comms tower operational and contact a nearby Explorator fleet, and bartered them the location of a world that possibly had archeotech in exchange for the whereabouts of the nearest Blood Angels ship. The ship in question was a small task force, no more than 40 marines, dedicated to cleansing a few worlds at the border of the Segmentum Obscuris where it met the Segmentum Solar. They were very surprised at finding 250 marines with arms and armour from the Horus Heresy and immediately contacted Baal. Dante messaged Salvator, but as the Angels Incarnate answered to Salvator above all bar the Emperor, and the Custodes would not see Dante as his commander, the Angels Incarnate were shut from the Blood Angels.

The purple armour that the Angels Incarnate wear came about when they had destroyed a warband of Emperor's Children and whilst one of the Alpha Squad was asleep, the rest of the squad jokingly started to change his power armour pieces to that of a member of the Emperor's Children. They had only changed the shoulder pads, helmet and backpack when the marine woke up and told his squad mates to go and take a hike. He decided he liked the colouration and design, so painted the appropriate parts of his armour a deep purple. The design caught on and within a month, the colouration of the chapter was decided.

CHAPTER HOME WORLD

The world of Portum III lies with its northern landmass pointing toward the blue dwarf star it orbits, due to an asteroid hit during M38. As a result of this, the human populations live on the equatorial and southern land masses.

It is an ocean world, with three main landmasses and some small islands dotted around the edges of the continents. Local flora and fauna include animals not dissimilar to ancient Terran dinosaurs, as it seems that similar evolution changes happened here as did on Terra. The seas are mostly full of fish, plesiosaurs and pliosaurs. To be able to kill a pliosaur is to be heralded as a champion. The land is home to many species of theropod and sauropod, with the carnivores that attack the base are either slaughtered or tamed and used as mounts. The fastest of these can easily run faster than a space marine attack bike, so the Angels Incarnate can divert more precious fuel to their Land Raiders.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

M41 702-921

The Angels Incarnate trade Horus Heresy era archeotech from the facility and the Knight world for suits of power armour and weapons itch the Adeptus Mechanicus, the most profitable trade being a fragment of an STC from the Knight world of Santor for twenty suits of Terminator armour and an undying close friendship with the Mechanicus.

M41 952

The Angels Incarnate caught word of an Imperial Space Marine come out of the warp on the world of Invictus II. The fleet of the second company, relinquished from a heretical Inquisitor, was in the system so they decided to get to the marine so that they survived to live another day.

When they met the marine one of the members of the second squad poked their head over the edge of a rock, took off their helmet to yell at the marine and was disintegrated. The Imperial Space marine had thought the marine was one of the Emperor's Children. The remaining four members then jumped up and over the rock, and the Imperial Space Marine hesitated with his fire, seeing the Blood Angels designs on their armour. After a great amount of negotiations, the marine decided to join the Angels Incarnate, and just as they finished painting the appropriate armour parts purple Dante arrived with the whole of the first and second companies, and seeing that the Imperial Space Marine had joined the Angels Incarnate he immediately regretted his decision to shut them out of the Blood Angels, and there was no way that the Imperial Space Marine, who was given the name Praedo by his new squad mates, could be persuaded to leave his friends.

M41 953-997

Destroying the numerous chaos cults in the Segmentum Obscuris and discovered another Knight World, the only knightly House remaining the House Red Wolf.

M41 998

The Angels Incarnate aided the Space Wolves in the Battle for Alaric Prime, forming a strong friendship with them. They then developed an alcoholic drink akin to beer, that is about twice as strong as the Space Wolves' one. All astartes have to develop an immunity to the drink, otherwise even they will have their insides destroyed.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

They have a very high amount of assault squads and all their first company is made up of Sanguinary Guard. Terminator squads are normally made up of marines promoted from devastator squads, and not solely veterans. They use tamed raptors in place of attack bikes in elite cases.

ROLL OF HONOR:

During a Necron awakening, the Beta and Delta squads of the second company, along with a furioso dreadnought and a unit of Sanguinary Guard was ordered to try and kill the overlord along with a unit of Sanguinary Guard. Brother Praedo, the Imperial Space Marine, managed to kill him in one shot at the maximum range of his weapon, almost ending the awakening right there and then.

During a fight against a warband of Fallen, the Furioso Dreadnought arced his frag cannon rounds, annihilating a unit of Devastators with only two shots.

When the second company were sent to put down a pair of renegade Guard regiments, and the Beta Squad (including Brother Praedo) was assigned to exterminating the few Plague Marines that guarded the leader of the heresy, an Astropath. They were attacked horribly, condemning the new member to a dreadnought. They managed to annihilate the plague marines but the astropath was dragged into the warp trying to summon a group of Plaugebearers but he only managed a clump of nurglings that were quickly destroyed with holy bolter fire.

CHAPTER ORGANIZATION:

They allow both men and women to become Marines, but only two female marines, one assault marine of the Fourth Company and a Raptor Rider of the Ninth Company are alive in 999 M41. Ten women have become marines in the history of the Angels Incarnate.

If a marine captures, subdues, tames, trains and is able to ride a raptor they are immediately promoted to the Ninth Company Raptor Riders, regardless of rank or company.

I really like this chapter Idea! However I think it would be best if you change the line"During the beginning of the Horus Heresy, the Adeptus Custodes known as Salvator was walking past a Blood Angels recruitment and training facility when a warp rift opened nearby and sucked in the entire facility, and Salvator."

It just feels a bit wrong that he was "walking" past. It might be better if you said he was inspecting or even visiting.

Apart from that its awesomemsn-wink.gif

Really great idea for a chapter :)

Thanks Spellburg, I wrote that bit at three in the morning! Rocmistro, the shades are a bit different than the picture as Mephiston Red and Xereus Purple aren't on the SM painter but how is it a bad colour palette?

I have half of Beta Squad, half of Delta Squad and the dread fully painted

Had a grandmother that was into this at one point; this all I can think of when I see Red and Purple.

But aside from that, I think armies look best with a single primary or secondary color and then neutrals.  Sometimes a high contrast dual color scheme (red and blue for the crimson fists isn't too bad, of course or blue-grey and yellow for space wolves.)

obviously, opinion can't be justified with hard facts, so just take it as that; my opinion.  YMMV of course!

The red hat society is really funny, I might add it into the fluff for when they are drunk!

IMHO, purple isn't far removed from the red of the BA, plus when you are looking at the minis on the table the main thing you see is the purple, so my gaming club agrees it works quite well.

The banner is a silver sword with wings similar to SG wings so what colour background do you think I should add?

Not being far away from each other on the color wheel is pretty much the problem tho. :D

Anyway, your plastic soldiers, your decision. It doesn't have to please us. ;)
