True Scale Blackshields - And there were three more

Recommended Posts

Hi all, first off a big shoutout to Doghouse for helping me out, giving me advice and putting up with me keep pestering him with questions.

So, onto the models. I've had this plan for a while, ever since Doghouse started his thread of truescales in kill team form and I thought (as Johnny Gat once said): 'Why the censored.gif not?'. So never actually greenstuffed before. Like ever, so this may be a slow thread due to that.

So my idea behind this force will be that they were loyal astartes from several legions as part of my 30k Expeditionary fleet that fought for the Imperium but were too late to Terra and instead chose to reap the starts and hunt down any and all traitors where-ever they were hiding. But started to get a little worried that those loyal of the traitors legions would be silently gotten rid of, so under the guise of searching the outer edges of the Imperium for any traitors that may have been missed and disapeared finding a base, blackening their armour and merging their groups to stage a long war of themselves. Making sure that the Imperium continues dealing with both xenos and traitors, but after awhile they see the Imperial Creed start to become the faith of the Imperium and start to raid Imperial worlds seeing this as a betrayal of the Emperor's ideals and his sacrafice.

So thats just the layout, I'll be delving further into it at some other point probably when I get round to painting them. Hmm I did say onto the models a while back.... Well here you go:

Well thats all for now folks, I plan to have around 15 and have a few different weapon options so when I use them for Shadow War games I can choose to have a flamer, plasma gunner or heavy bolter dude either early on or as the campaign progresses.

Cool fluff! Looking forward to seeing the finished models!

Thanks, always been more confident on fluff than my models.

Very, very nice work mate, you've done a fantastic job on these. The GS work on the neck is especially impressive. thumbsup.gif

I'll be watching with interest.

Thanks, Doghouse, quite happy with it myself. I started small then just added more greenstuff when it was needed. For the neck itself I just got an actual head, dipped it in water then pushed it into the greenstuff then just rounded it out with a paintbrush.

No progress today since my arms are tired from the gym but tomorrow I will see about getting a few more done.

Looking forward to the final products! Also kudos for doing Blackshields biggrin.png

You and me both, always wanted to do some blackshields so it just kinda made sense to me for these guys to be them.

Update time! I have to say that I am properly bloody happy with how these guys have come out, tried to make it look like their gear is part their original kit and stuff they have 'found' along the way and tried to give them some character as well.

Those look fantastic mate.

Thanks man, I am really happy with them. Can't wait to get them all finished and get painting but I want to take my time with them, and in regards to painting I plan to put some scratches on their black plate with their old colours being revealed.

Update time, been really hot these past few weeks and apparently I may have had a chest infection for those weeks. Ooops, but got some antibiotics now but does mean no gym this week so I decided to get to work on the three in-progress guys I've had sitting there. And here they are:

Since so far most of my poses have been more casual/badass/hero pose I though I should do a tactical pose and so this guy was made.

med_gallery_62975_13147_328398.jpg med_gallery_62975_13147_542696.jpg med_gallery_62975_13147_493709.jpg

'You have three ways to die, choose.'

med_gallery_62975_13147_360825.jpg med_gallery_62975_13147_467566.jpg med_gallery_62975_13147_87063.jpg

This guy was a bit of a pain due to the torso being slightly curved on the sides which made for the 'holding hands' quite difficult, which is why I had to greenstuff the gap between his right hand and wrist (as well as the gaps on the heavy bolter, no idea why that doesn't fit together well), but I think I got there in the end. In this pose I like to think hes just gunned down a load of people and is just wondering if anyone is still alive. I also now realise that I didn't put a pistol or a close combat weapon on him, will get onto that later.

And a little taste of what I have planned for the future (ignore the shields, they are for my Astral Claws).
