Shadow Wars: Piscina IV - The 1st Never Follows

Well I was totally bummed - and probably a bit more vocal than I should of been - about my disappointment on missing out on the original box-set. Now that everyone has moved on to 8th edition I'm finally getting my hands on the big SWA rule book. I managed to pick up the scouts and orcs super cheap on ebay. This is going to be it for me hobby-wise, I may upscale into Oldhammer or downscale into Inquisimunda eventually who knows. The only thing I know is I want to stick with my Dark Angels on this and not Blood Angels.

( disclaimer - I'm old. I don't care about 8th ed or new fluff - its obviously written for another generation of players. I'm going to happily play in my own world and enjoy the hobby parts that i enjoy.)

Ok back to the point of the thread.

The plan is a simple one.

I dropped 40k in college back in the early 90s and didnt get back into it till 6th so I missed out on the whole Storm of Venegeance campaign. I managed to get a hold of the book and plan on modding it to work with SWA to some extent. I still would like to keep this skirmish size as I think SWA really fits the Purging of Kadillus story line. Ironically Scenario 5 in Storm of Vengeance is called Shadow Warriors and has scouts infiltrate Ork lines with Naaman leading the way. Overall I think it would be an easy fit with the material from Thorpe's novel. Scouts are gonna take out the powerplant teleporter by bringing in the Deathwing. Still have to go over the mechanics of the campaign and see about a mash up with SWA.
I also finally picked up sgt. telion to use as a base for Sgt. Naaman. If anyone of you guys have pics or know of any great conversion ideas please share em. thumbsup.gif Doesn't look too difficult - I will def be swapping out the head. I happen to really like the original pose and his bolter so may try to fit a chainsword on there somehow.
Some pictures because they are awesome.

No doubt this is a super slow burn project. Not only do I have loads of scouts to build ( and thinking about magnetizing them because the arms fit like censored.gif: anyways ) but I have even more filthy xenos to deal with and loads going on in real life that I'm trying to escape from.
Again any comments, conversion ideas, tips, tutorials would be great.

Always magnetized! It makes swaps in the future faster and easier. I think I use 1/16 for wrists and 1/8 on shoulders.

Also, I think I want a thunder hammer / power sword termie now ha

Edit: don't forget pilot holes (drill a smaller hole then what you need first, then drill the size you need)

Thanks!  Any tips for magnetizing the heavy bolter dude?

He seems extra fiddly - maybe the molds are too old as things never line up good.   I filed down the indention knobs that are supposed help align the arms.

I saw a video where the guy  glued the arms together at the bolter  ( glued at the top hvy bolter handle )  and magnets in each shoulder but it seems a bit weak to just have glue holding the handle.

That's what I would do. Magnet at the shoulders with the hands holding the heavy bolter. The magnets themselves are surprisingly strong, and it is unlikely the arms would move or rotate on their own. As long as you don't drop the arms, I believe it should be a strong enough joint with just glue.

I've never built scouts, so I'm of no help with their building quirks. But for the heavy bolter my tip would be magnet the shoulders first, and once it's good, glue the hand to the handle. I think this is will be easiest way to align the them. After it cures, test it out.

found my stash of magnets in the attic.   Only have 1/8"  discs so I'm going to order 1/16"  dia. when I get back from vacation next month.

Till then I'll give the HB a go with the 1/8" discs - hopefully tonight.

also found a ton of extra bits I totally forgot i had which is a bonus!
