Warzone Mutant Chronicles for guard

I just ordered a box set of the old Warzone: Mutant Chronicles game. It comes with 80 guard looking models, split evenly between Imperials (WW2 British meets sci-fi) and Bauhaus (WW2 German meets sci-fi).

This will take a bit, but I am thinking of either making two large platoons or one platoon of 40 and 4 squads of Veterans.

I think the box set was worth all the time it will take to convert everything because the box was about $40 shipped and it has 80 models.

Anyone use these before? Any advice? Anyone know where I can buy 80 lasguns for cheap? Thanks.

I bought some thinking the same, but never did finish that project.  One thing I did find out is that the GW plastic glue didn't work very well on them... so you might want to use crazy glue instead.

As for the lasguns, a bitz supplier would be the best bet.  Though, to be honest, I wouldn't bother - their guns already look close enough to lasguns.  Rather, I would worry about giving them other heavy weapons.

Fair enough. I don't use the GW glue. I've had the best luck with locktite and gorilla brand superglues. Locktite is my favorite, it's glued everything I've tried to glue so far.

After looking through the codex for a bit I think I will use half of them for a platoon with command squad, 2 infantry squads, and 1 special weapon squad. The other half will probably make 3 Veteran squads. This will avoid using the heavy weapon models.

Vox and grenade launchers on the command squad. Grenade launchers in the infantry squads. Demo charges in the special weapons squad.

I've been giving it a lot of thought as to what regiment to make these guys into. I originally was thinking Armageddon Steel Legion, but I think I could also make them look like Death Korps of Krieg fairly easily. They look like they already have gas masks, and half of them are German WW1-2 inspired already. I don't think it would take much fluff hand waving to say they are from two different battalions that were merged after heavy losses from both; hence the different armor.

I'm trying to decide what to do with them as far as what to make for the game. I should probably wait until 8th is out before finalizing anything.

As far as an army theme goes, I'd kind of like to base it off the Artillery battery I used to be in. They currently have a mix of 155mm cannons, 120mm heavy mortars, and 60mm mortars. I think I could represent this in game with basilisk, wyverns, and mortar heavy weapons.

I think it's worth waiting a month to see what rules they have in store for various regiments. At minimum, since Forgeworld is putting out rules for all its models, Death Korps of Krieg and Elysians should have their own rules.

Going off of current rules, my guess is that Krieg troopers will have BS 4+ WS 3+ and Ld 7 (what marines have now, so I guess Guardsmen will have 6) plus maybe some sort of buff against battle shock (currently Kriegers are immune to leadership checks taken from casualties taken from shooting).

  • 2 weeks later...

They arrived.

I've only got two together so far. I've got three boxes of scions coming as well. I'll be mixing bits and models all together I think.

Here are two I started on. I'm using these as officers. The one with the statuesque head will be my company commander, the other will be a lieutenant or commisar.

Micahwc,

I look forward to seeing your Warzone project take shape!

By the way, you could also use 155mm howitzers as, well, your 155mm howitzers. If you google "Marx 155mm howitzer recast" you'll find various places to buy plastic toy howitzers that use the old Marx cast from the 1960s, costing usually about $10 a shot.

In terms of rules, you could either use them as FW bassy arty carriages (based on a leaked FW index table of contents page it looks like earthshaker arty carriages will still be a thing in 8th edition.) Or you could put them on elevated diorama bases and use them as counts-as self-propelled Basilisks.

Had the day off and got to spend a few hours assembling. Got my immolators and exorcists for my SOBs put together as well as about 10 Sisters of silence. Got 4 out of 62 guard soldiers assembled.

I really like the warzone models. The British looking ones are pretty sweet. I think I may make them Veterans.

I've got the makings of a brigade.

HQ: company commander, Lord Commisar, Tycho, maybe a Tempestus Prime, maybe an inquisitor.

Troops: 3 infantry squads, 3 scion squads.

Elites: 5 death company, 3 Veteran squads, 1 Vindicare assassin, maybe some inquisition acolytes. Edit: I forgot my 10 death cult assassins.

Fast Attack: 3 dominion squads with immolators, immolation flamers.

Heavy Support: 2 exorcists, 2 heavy weapon squads

Micah's Witch Hunter Task Force.

The Witch Hunter Task Force is a combined arms Brigade. It costs 1989 points right now. This task force was formed specifically to seek out and destroy rogue psykers,  human or other. It is commanded by a senior Lord Commisar who is backed up by two company commanders. One company commander directs the Astra Militarum forces, while the other oversees the special Brigade assets.

A WHTF makes use of several special anti-psyker assets. It is not uncommon for the Sisters of Battle to accompany such a task force. If the task force is hunting particularly powerful psykers, the task force may be authorized to utilize Sisters of Silence and Assassin resources.

HQ: Lord Commisar, Company Commander, Company Commander. (Nothing too special here, plasma pistols on all of them and power weapons)

Elite: 3 units of Sisters of Silence Vigilators with Executioner Greatblades. 1 Vindicare Assassin.

Troops: 4 infantry squads with heavy bolter. 3 scion squads with dual plasma/plasma pistol. (Plan to deepstrike and shoot 5 plasma shots at something 9.1" away.) 1 Taurox Prime with autocannons and gatling cannon.

Fast Attack: 3 units of 5 flamer dominions in Immolators with Immolation flamers.

Heavy Support: 2 exorcists, 1 heavy weapon squad with autocannons.

General plan of action is to set up the infantry squads in the center of my deployment zone with the HQ, Heavy Weapon Squads, Exorcists, Taurox Prime and Vigilators. Vigilators provide psychic defense and counter charge ability. Dominions use their free move at the beginning to get into BBQ range with the immolation flamers. The idea being that the opponent now has to choose between shooting the immolators at their door step or at the exorcists.

The assassin deploys from the shadows on my first movement and attempts to kill enemy characters.

Scions deep strike and fire massed plasma into juicy targets.

Scions, assassin,  and Dominions are able to go after objectives instead if needed.

I have used the bauhaus back packs on my Kursk regiment, I need some more so if you are willing to trade I have the imperial half plus about 35 Bauhaus without back packs you can have in exchange for all your Bauhaus back packs?

Edit-oops, just saw the dollar sign, postage will kill any sort of deal but if any one uk based is interested in a swap I am up for it :)

I've got 40 of these guys assembled now. I really like the Imperial guys but I think they look more like Veterans than regular infantry; I may have to convert them to have hotshot lasguns and make them scions.
