Legio Tertia Decima, Cohors Thalassana

Howdy, y'all,

my name is Yves and I am your typical lurker-turned-first-time-poster.

Thanks to a very encouraging girlfriend, I rediscovered my plastic addiction some three odd years ago. Lurking these forums for the better part of said time frame, I was trying to get inspired as to what army to start.

Imagine the shaming I was given as a former Black Templar and Imperial Guard player, when I discovered my love for a certain romanesque, blue legion! Yes, the Ultramarine fever finally got me.

Having only painted to the typical gaming standard before, y'know a few edgehighlights and a shade, I spent most of my time with the hobby trying to improve my painting, even getting into airbrushing. And even as our living room started to get cluttered with plastic sprues and spilt paint my girlfriend was being supportive of my hobby.

So I slapped a ring on her.

So now I am a married man and we're working towards a house and our first kid. Thus I'm starting this WIP thread, so that I won't lose sight of my hobby due to married life.

Let's start then, shall we? And what better place to start then WIP "Big Bobby G" himself:

Oh boy, is that out of focus and overlit... But I guess It'll have to do for now.

What's to come? Well, here's a blurry picture of what is currently in the works, I'll spare you the amount of gray plastic soldiers (for now).

Man, I'm excited to get this thread under way, current WIPs will come soon.

Let me know what you think, as I'm always looking for outside opinions to improve myself.

Cheers,

Yves

Awesome Ultramarines, Jüffös (and welcome to the B&C, by the way)! The Guilliman conversion is really unique. I've gotta echo Vairocanum though, could we have some individual shots of the models? I'd love to see the Knight!

Anywho, keep up the great work!

Wow, thank you for your kind replies, I did not expect that.

Right now I'm at a Renaissance Faire, so no squad pics at the moment. I'll get some more pictures for you on Sunday evening.

@LamenterMarine:

I married the venerable dread torso with arms and legs of the BaC contemptor.

First I built the torso to my liking, but using a mk4 helmet instead of one from the kit. I then cut of the torso's pins that would hold the arms in place.

Secondly I cut off the BaC contemptor at the waist, right above the groin ornament. Now comes the fiddly part: You need to cut off the pivot that is part of the venerable dreads legs and glue it on top of the contemptor's legs, otherwise the transition between the legs and the torso will look weird.

Once all that is done, just build the arms however you want to, though they might need a little spacer, all my joints for example have been cut and reangled, using greenstuff whenever needed.

Cheers,

Yves

Evenin', folks,

Just got back from my little time-travelling vacation. Not sure about uploading pictures though, no power armor was involved. msn-wink.gif

Instead I got some pictures of my WIP "knight lancer". It's a plastic knight, as I dislike ForgeWorld's spindly legs, though no offense to anyone who does, just my personal taste.

First up, a frontal shot of the "First Spear of Thalassar":

As you can see, still some minor things to do, such as attaching ladders and weathering the exhaust stacks.

Then a picture of its main heraldry:

This horse head I had to redo from scratch, as I foolishly gave away most of my knight's decal sheet.

And finally, the knight's spear:

More pictures will come soon, as I'll sketch in the shield's iconography tonight.

Cheers and thanks for visiting,

Yves

Emperor's Armpits! Is that free hand heraldry I see? That is one striking looking knight brother! Kudos! :tu:

Surely not... Our fellow forum member must have a very close association with the iron hands to have limbs capable of painting such straight lines.

Incidentally we've only ever seen a photo of his left hand.....

Cheers

Evenin again, folks,

so, I said I'd upload some more, namely the knight's shield... But alas I've only made very little progress:

Most of the shield's main colors are blocked in by now, but then an eagerly awaited package found its way to me and got me distracted:

... great way to stay on track, Yves.

Any further ideas on the shield? Be sure to let me know.

Cheers,

Yves

Thanks again for all the nice comments.

@Sgt. Blank: Yeah, smoothness was what I was going for, tho I still want to add weathering to them in the end, hoping it'll work out.

Ever the hobby butterfly, I finished my terrain building spree and resumed working on a unit I started a few months ago:

Yep, it's a rapier battery with quad launchers. Now I have to admit, that their construction was an idea blatantly stolen from Brother-Captain Arkhan, I hope he doesn't mind, as my fw rapiers were horrible miscasts that I then promptly gave away in a bit of a hissifit.

Cheers,

Yves
