Fallout themed Skitarii/Ad-Mech (New Vegas & Fallout 4)

I have some spare Skitarii about and wanted a few squads to go with my standard Mars coloured army but couldn't decide till now...

i bought some Anvil PASGT Gas-mask helms for my guard but they looked naff on cadians :ermm: ....in the bits box they went...till i stumbled across this bit of inspiration right here ...

This is an NCR(New California Republic) Ranger from Fallout-new Vegas (if you never played fallout) and he looks hella cool

so i thought put those PASGT helms on a Skit and see what it looks like?.!

This is a very quick base coated Test Mini (like 20 mins all up so don't judge me too harshly please :sweat: )

Now its not a perfect match for the helm but i reckon its not bad so far...

i'll be doing a squad to add to my army but it will be wedged in between other things i have on the boil at the moment so it may be a while before progress is shown...

I really like the oily metal on the chest and helmet. How did you achieve that? That some good inspiration, a lot easier than trying to make space marines resembling Fallout power armour.

 

Edit: Radium Carbines are about as Fallout-themed as it's possible to get. Come to think of it, I'm surprised I haven't seen a similar weapon in one of the games.

base coat over white of death world forest, light wash with nuln oil then also a light wash of agrax earthshade (it didn't pop like that till the Agrax wash FYI) 

i will be going back over the armour with deathworld again...if it looks too clean i'll just Agrax it again :sweat:

Very true about the carbines i'm suprised too...

@DeStinyFiSh - i know, i'm happy a simple head swap made it look so different.

 

i also wonder if infiltrators can be made to look like assaultron :rolleyes: ...

Also anyone thats played any of the Fallout games especially Vegas and  No.4 that can suggest ideas for in game people /robots etc that can be portrayed in units for Skit/Ad-mech armies feel free to add some ideas/input :biggrin.:

Great project idea. Let's see...

 

-convert galvanic rifles with spare arc "blocks" to laser muskets

-kastelan to sentry bot (replace legs)

-chaos cultists and wire to raiders (vanguard/thralls)

-orks/ogryn to super mutants (count-as kataphron?)

As awesomesauce as that sounds,cause it is :teehee: ... my disposable income for models is not like it used to be,that would be like $130.00 Aus dollars(b4 shipping)for one model :ermm:  my wife would not be impressed....i follow the old saying "A Happy Wife...A Happy Life"...

Maybe,perhaps by scrimping here and there i might get one later this year when 8th Ed is into full swing and i can see a Viable use for one in my army...Is a thanatar playable in a 40k force?...

Being a bit more fluffy, the idea of a Thanatar having giant speakers blaring "The elimination of HERETICS is the duty of every LOYAL Imperial Citizen!" or something like that, in the same tone that Liberty Prime spouts its absurdly patriotic stuff, is amazing.

small update, here is my idea for my squad "Alpha"

staying with the "New Vegas" theme for this squad i'm attempting to put some of the game characters into my army and making the alpha's as key NCR characters may work ...

here is my rough idea version of Colonel "James Hsu" with artwork to show what he actually looks like :tongue.:

will add some pouches and a holster etc but that's the basic idea, i wanted bionics as well in there for the 40k side of the imagery :cool.:

Thanks Vel', yeah luckily the scale is good between all 3 :sweat: although i reckon a small disc of plastic will be put in the neck before Scion beret head is stuck in,blue Tac is good for working out the correct height needed to not look Dorky :wacko.: .

WiP update -

painting one of my Kastelans that i'd had sitting in simple green...it used to be gold (farewell C3PO Kastelan) that was not one of my greatest idea's !!.

it is still WiP and i need to tone back the weathering (i usually paint it,weather it then tidy up if it looks to much...which i think this one does...)

as you can see the back metals have not even been done yet, some parts of the torso and head need washing machine green reapplied to bring it back from being too realistic :laugh.:

I personally wouldn't mess with that weathering at all!  I think it really adds a unique flavour to those models and really represents a 'gritty future' look that goes with the theme of Fallout quite nicely.  I'd like to see how this looks on an Onager!  :)

i'll see how it looks when all the metals are done and its sitting on a wasteland base...

@Bjorn - The colour used is Nurgling green :sick: ...:laugh.: , in real life it looks more like the Protectron in post #11 ,that's kinda what i meant when i said it may be too heavily weathered,the base colour is not coming through properly...or the pic sucks due to average/improper lighting :whistling:  

More work on it tonight and i'll do the base as well so i can get an idea how they will look together.

this 8th Ed is getting me motivated to get stuff done so i can actually play some proper games...i reckon i played maybe 3 games tops of 7th Ed :mellow.:

p.s. Vel' - i have an Icarus array Onager together and undercoated as an incentive for me to finish the first vanguard squad and kastelans, i to want to see what it looks like in Deathworld Forest :wub:

quick update... Kastelan is nearly done so after he's done i have to do some boring stuff ...troops :sweat:

the Alpha, 2nd plasma guy and the Omni-spex will be in the 2nd lot of 5...

Couple Questions though...

1. whats the new "Black" for Alpha's now...what pistol type? and also taser Goad? or power weapon? :unsure.:

2. Is Plasma still a good default option with 8th...?

I think the Arc Pistol is kind of crummy now, though maybe that's just because I'm sad to see Haywire go.  Phosphor probably offers more for the cost but it's tough to say right now (without more testing).

 

 

2. Is Plasma still a good  default option with 8th...?

 

Plasma is very good in 8th because -3 AP wrecks all but the heaviest saves (and still reduces a 2+ to an iffy 5+), S7 means you're wounding most non-tanks on 3+ and can still hurt the majority of "armour" (Toughness 7) on 4+, and there are no restrictions to moving and firing with most Plasma.  Best of all, Gets Hot! is now "Supercharge", which gives the Plasma weapon S8 and 2 Damage but can kill the dude firing it (which stinks), but it's 100% optional now.  This means you only need to risk your Plasma-equipped dudes if you want to, without nerfing the general killing power Plasma enjoyed in 7th.

 

TL:DR; yes.  :)

1. IMO, a CC weapon is auto-include (as cheap as they are now), but the best pistol is no pistol at all. Alphas can take a CC weapon without giving up their usual ranged weapon, and galvanic/radium rifle have good firepower/range anyway. Which CC weapon is a good question, as they are roughly equal, trading strength for AP in several steps.

 

2. With arc weaponry cheap and weakened (even against vehicles, considering more wounds and armour save), plasma has to get the job done. Take as many as points-wise possible on vanguards, and consider a techpriest for rerolling those 1s when overcharging.

Thanks Guys for the heads up on equipment in the new Edition, much to think about :wink.:

here is a quick WiP of my next unit type - Rangers!

I'm basing these loosely on the red beret 1st recon guys from New Vegas who were quasi snipers (the extra range of the Galvanic's and also the TA rifle help the theme) and the torso armour is more beefy like raider cage armour from fallout 4... going for a gritty wasteland survival type look with these guys as they roam the wasteland for extended periods of time but still have a semblance of a veteran type uniform, hopefully after paint it will look like "chocolate and peanut' mixed together ...a perfect match :tongue.:

++ EDIT++ i realise there's not much detail to see as he is pure grey :blush.: so will try and get him painted up this weekend for C&C next week !!
