Anti Spartan and knight choices

I'm running blood angles Day of revelation. This is going to be my second tournament.

Last time I really struggled against spartans and imperial knights.

This time around I'm going to take between 8-10 terminators in a KAC drop pod. 3-4 chainfist and some powerfists.

1 Should I take cataphratcii or Tartaros terminators?

2 I'm going to be using a chaplain as my non compulsory HQ. I really like using him with one of my assault squads. However I could attach him to the terminators.

My other anti AV choices will be a leviathan with melta lance and siege claw not drill unfortunately.

3 last time I used grav rapiers, however due to poor deployment they did absoultley nothing. Are they effective at stripping hull points and slowing down spartans and knights?

Flyers and Melta are good anti Knight while another option is Vindicators for dealing with both can be very useful.

If you're going to use terminators kit them out for the job and expect them to die after killing one

With the Grav it's good for dealing with a Spartan or a single Knight, if you're facing multiple Knights though you'll need extra ways to deal with them

Any AP 1 or 2 weapon with S8+ for a knight. The AP 1/2 to get the explodes result so you can get D3 extra wounds. Or if you like glancing stuff to death then any S6+ with rending is great, but you need lots of shots. So a Kheres Assault Cannon Mortis.

Haywire for a spartan hands down. That way they waste their flare shield upgrade ;)

Or any ordnance weapon like laser destroyers.

As stated above. A CC unit will take them both down easily but you'll most likely lose them once the knight explodes or even from the knight itself.

Lightnings are tried and true Spartan killers and do a fair deal of damage to Knights too, but will die after delivering the barrage. They also look pretty good and are fluffy for Blood Angels since fliers and stuff that go fast.

The only problem with them might be them starting in reserve, and with DoR you want to bring as much stuff as possible turn 1, but if the tourney is big enough for Spartans and Knights it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok great! Thank you for the responses.

I have some lightnings on order but they may not turn up in time. Leviathan with melta lance may be the best option I have to deal with the knight.

I will go for cataphratcii with chainfists for the improved invulnerable.

I may try the grav rapiers again

What about a tac support squad with meltas in a pod?.

Lightings are the way to go or grav!.

Support squad could be a shout. I have 1 vet tac squad, 5 combi melta and 2 meltas outflanking.

I already have 2 leviathans in drop pods and a KAC drop pod with terminators in it. If I took another drop pod it would have to go into reserves with the 3rd drop pod.

i don't think Tactical support with meltaguns are any good. You are not running Orbital Assault, which means they have to take a 115 point Dreadclaw, and considering the squad is already over 300pts with meltas that's extremely expensive and won't even work against Spartans. You could get almost two Lightnings or more Dreadnoughts in Drop pods with that amount of points.

Grav rapier's are good, but you may struggle to get enough shots off.

Myself, I run 3 spartans purely on the point they are the most difficult thing to get off the board.

Leviathans are one trick ponies in my mind.

However, a contemptor with twin fists and grav guns in an anvillus should do the trick removing at least one spartan turn 2. 2 grav guns glancing 2 hull points off and then charging with 5 attacks, still 4's to glance but you have 5 chances of 50/50 of removing the last 3 hull points. if anything, you're going to drop it to one hull point. which is easier to deal with than 5.

^^ Just add chainfist for armourbane..use a virtue and have either extra charge distance or Rage too

Yeah, meant a chainfist on one fist, good spot.

And a virtue? I'm confused?

He probably meant Overcharge the ability a Contemptor-Cortus has.

I used a Xiphon to great effect against a knight lancer recently, the 2 twin linked lascannons and rotary missile launcher hitting on a 2+ thanks to strafing run are really good but you need to have neutralized AA before it arrives on the board as they can be fragile.

A Spartan is also a good counter to either as the 4 twin linked lascannons can wreck just about anyones day if you have a good round if shooting.
