HH Book 46: Ruinstorm

@Choppyred re:1

God, I hope not. While one could argue that they have been dancing around coming to blows, it would be the height of stupid for that to happen. I think it's more likely they decide entrap Horus' in regards to the old lore that had the SW and DA forcing Horus' hand. Perhaps a somewhat corny moment between the three Primarchs'. "Sanguinius, hold the line! You must hold."

Or Chaos shenenigans.

"Sanguinius, the Four will give you passage...for a price."

You would betray, Horus', your pawn?

He is ours no longer and what fun is a game where your pieces are no longer your own?

... Name your price?

You must die.

Or something like that.

The Novel whilst highly anticipated isn't actually anything to do with the Warp storms. The title of the book is actually referring to a particularly violent curry induced visit by Sanguinius to the water closet.

No wonder their faces look so off.

Everything a Primarch does is exponentially bigger, stronger and faster and able to unerringly compel reactions from even the hardiest of mortals. Everything.

It goes fluently with the cover. Sadly not the best from Roberts.

I'm still betting on Madail being the daemonic antagonist. The Damnation Cache was opened, Madail and his hordes of Daemons flooded into real space and took to space in wicked vessels. Their time to shine has come, I'd say.

In company with the Fateweaver who is now free again after the last HH title

Maybe the cover art is not exactly how I picture Sanguinius when I close my eyes, but he certainly looks super super pissed.

Which is exactly how I want him to be when he digests that Terra endures and he is not there.

I notice that his wings are replaced/covered by his brothers. (Maybe that means something, hmmm)

I am so excited for this book.

Is it here yet? How about now?

Seriously, so many major plot points in 40k canon are about to be potentially addressed here.

The stage will be set for the floor show at Terra etc.

Where were you Lion ?!? You RG ?!?

WHY did you fail your Emperor (x2)?

Or did you? Perhaps you do the very best you could by getting Sanguinius there in some fashion?

So much drama in this book potentially.

Yeah very excited for it =)

Should be a pivotal point in the series for certain methinks.

'Seriously, so many major plot points in 40k canon are about to be potentially addressed here.' - really? Which one? This novel will give nothing except BA arriving to Terra. That's all. If someone still care about boring IS yet, well I'm glad it's over. IS was a filler to take your money and give authors easy time. Cause in all the IS stuff released to date almost nothing ;major; did happened.

AS for the drama - you would be greatly disappointed. Something tells me it would be 3 emo primarchs talking to themselves and daemons, and massive SM vs daemons BOLTER PORN.

I'm with Augustus on that.

Ya know, I have to be the one to say something this time.

you are getting my :cuss nerves. Take a chill pill. I often agree with your sentiments, but seriously, can you tone it down a bit?

1) its YOUR opinion especially when it comes to speculation.

2) careful with the ad hominem ("at the person") stuff. Disagreeing with an idea is fine, but directly impugning someone's enthusiasm simply because you are skeptical makes you come off as a :cuss

3) I can count on one hand the days I have come to this section of B&C and not seen your replies to every single thread imaginable, usually with the same tone as above. Perhaps you feel you have to have the last word on everything imaginable. Perhaps you are so excited about eveything BL that you simply can not contain yourself. I don't know and don't care, but it's truthfully starting to impact my enjoyment of these threads

4) I have seen others point out similar issues in the past, so the fact that this is a bit of a pattern will be concerning to all. We all have our ticks and I would like to think it's coachable behavior since other posts of yours have been fine. But here is another person bringing this up, again.

Now, I realize that Internet forums are not the best place to convey body language or other aspects of communication that could make one's comments seem far different in tone.

I also realize that English may not be everyone's first language.

Third, I can gripe with the best of 'em so I know how the Black Rage of fan frustration can take hold. It's one hung to state your opinion. It's another to hope to get others see and understand your opinion. It's another to shoot down anyone else's opinion and quash any sort of dialogue. Your comments above veer dangerously close to that last part.

I have a bit of a cynic in me as well, so I can get the "uncreative corporation doesn't care angle," but not everyone else does. Let's also wait to see just how good (or bad) this novel is before completely :cuss -ing all over it.

Look, dude, we all want to have fun on here. Just remember that opinions here are like toys at school: give everyone a turn.

I forgot to add in my humble opinion. I'm not telling you what to think - just stating my 'own' personal opinion. Point is you are all too quick to judge if something is not for your own liking.  I'm not telling you to change your opinion on life/novels. And that does not meant that I should like bad settings/books if they were made poorly.

I didn't tell that it's everyone else opinion. And I don't like Imperium Secundus cause it was a failure of epic proportions: bookwise, timewise and lorewise.

But thanks for the Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure reminder

Well we obviously differ in our ability to enjoy good literature then =P

I don't expect to be greatly disappointed at all.

I quickly named off like 5+ major plot points I am interested in for this coming book.

If that doesn't make sense I am sorry.

I have really enjoyed the Imperium Secundus portion of the heresy novels so we differ there certainly.

I think it has been a brilliant vehicle for expanding on the lore and ongoing story.

Plenty of VERY great things happened. Money well spent in my opinion.

Regarding what is coming I remain excited.

It is not the destination, but the journey and how one handles things along the way that really matter.

No need for things to get "emo"

Nothing wrong with your expectations. I'm happy if you are waiting for the book and excited to read it. See - you liked IS, I didn't. Thus from here goes part of the differences.

5+ major points are good for you, but not so good for me. Again - it's normal - people like different things.

I could only disagree with 1 point - 'differ in our ability to enjoy good literature'. It's not the ability to enjoy good literature. It's the fact that 'good literature' parameters are too different for each of us

For example a lot of people like Salamanders stuff, Harry Potter and Twilight. I hate them - but they think 'Salamanders stuff, Harry Potter and Twilight' are a good literature, lol

I think it might help us all to use emojis a bit more to convey the non-verbal cues we are dearly needing, so as to be a bit less cutting in our pure written format:

As a significant proportion of the meaning of a communicative message in social interaction derives from nonverbal cues, it stands to reason that text alone—the linguistic mode—conveys only a relatively small proportion of the information we have access to, in spoken exchanges. There’s a gaping lacuna in what digital talk, alone, can convey. Much of the information relating to emotional expression, projection of personality, the nuancing that accompanies words in spoken language, is missing. It’s hardly surprising, therefore, that we can all, on occasion, fall foul of the angry jerk phenomenon: A rushed email, or a casual SMS can sound detached, snotty, or worse. It lacks the nonverbal cues that fill out and complement our face-to-face interactions. As the usual resources that allow our empathy to get off the ground are missing, we’re at an immediate disadvantage in trying to put ourselves in the sender’s shoes.

The rich, communicative context available in face-to-face encounters is largely absent from digital communication. Digital text alone is impoverished and, on occasion, emotionally arid. Textspeak, seemingly, possesses the power to strip all forms of nuanced expression from even the best of us. But here emoji can help: It fulfills a similar function in digital communication to gesture, body language, and intonation in spoken interaction. Emoji, in text messaging and other forms of digital communication, enables us to better express tone and provide emotional cues; and this enables us to better manage the ongoing flow of information, and to interpret what the words are meant to convey.

In fact, the idea that digital text, used alone, sucks away the nuancing has even been given its own name: Poe’s law. Based on comments made originally by Nathan Poe on how to parody fundamentalist views, Poe’s law is now an Internet adage, widely cited on web forums and chat rooms; it even has its own Wikipedia page. According to the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Poe’s law states the following: “Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humour, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won’t mistake for the real thing.” In short, when poking fun in digital communication, emojis are best used for avoidance of doubt.

[....]

It is no fluke, therefore, that I have found, in research on emoji usage in the United Kingdom that I conducted on behalf of TalkTalk Mobile, that 72 percent of British 18- to 25-year-olds believe that emoji makes them better at expressing their feelings. Far from leading to a drop in standards, emoji is enabling people—especially the young—to become better communicators in their digital lives. The advent of emoji can be seen, from this perspective, as empowering, a force for good in 21st-century communication.

[...]

Clearly, and as any psychologist worth their salt will warn us: Correlation doesn’t entail causation. Finding that two things seem to go together doesn’t mean one causes the other. You can’t simply start using emoji in your text messaging and expect to start being invited out on more dates (if only!). Rather, emoji usage is indicative of something else. Using emoji enables your potential date to better gauge your message: Emoji facilitates a better calibration and expression of our emotions in digital communication.

Petitioner's City

Part of the time I do think that people totally misunderstood me. I do try to learn and improve my English, but due to the work it is a dream for now.

Even A D-B and Laurie massively misunderstood me in Black Legion and HH threads.

I have the utmost appreciation for anyone speaking a second language, not to mention wading into the depths of something like science-fiction-fantasy-bolter-porn as opposed to the guidebook-standard "where can I find the bathroom?" Lord knows how I sound attempting it (

) !

Just be mindful of giving others room for their ideas to breathe as well: not every comment needs to be replied to and stating what is opinion is helpful.

Anyway, while I'm disappointed there will be no hugely detailed massive Space Battle, I am curious as to what the fate of remaining Gloriana class ships among the 3 Legions. We know the Macragge's Honor survives since its Guilliman's Flagship in M42 but I wonder if the Red Tear and the Invincible Reason will be destroyed at this battle since its not there in M41.

Same. We all know that at some point HH/Scouring or after 'Macragge's Honor' dropped from the warp and joined the Imperial forces.

As for the Red Tear - something tells me that it would die over Terra.

As for the Invincible reason - maybe that's the one that would be destroyed in the 'Ruinstorm'.

Also it would be nice if according to the 'kiss principle' in warfare - united fleet assets of 3 Legions would wipe out some big traitoris battlegroup, preferably including with the 'Trisagion' or 'Blessed Lady'. I do sooo want both these ships dead

I have a feeling that the Red Tear's fate is somehow tied to Sanguinius's. It rises from the wastes of Signus "battered and badly damaged, but unbroken like the IX Legion itself ." Hmmmm.

Maybe the commander throws it in front of a barrage from the Vengeful Spirit, stopping an annhikatimg shot at something? Maybe it lowers its geller fields to attract denizens of the warp, allowing Sangy + co to sip through the ruinstorm?

I don't have many good suggestions. My points of reference don't really apply in this situation.

Indeed. So in general it would be poetical for it to die with Sangy at Terra.

I think the Blessed Lady is already destroyed at this point. It is highly likely that is the wreck the Salamanders found in "Deathfire" at the outer edges of Ultramar. The one which was filled with Ultramarine and Word Bearer corpses.

The Trisaigon is still active since it went out of the Ruinstorm with Lorgar in the last pages of Betrayar.
