After Badab. Mechanicus inq28 finished

Impressive work, overall. I think the (air? hydraulic?) hoses can be eliminated, though- having them hang out like that, just makes the Knight look vulnerable, covered in parts that scream, "Shoot here to cripple the Knight!" to any competent sniper.

Thanks as usual Bjorn.  The hoses are meant to be armoured cabling, adding to the "techno-archaic" feel of the knight but I see your point.

Not necessarily, it could be metal hosing, or plated in some way. I see what you're saying but there's a lot of ways you could explain it away plus rule of cool, In my opinion the hoses really add some great detail to the knights.

Thanks Medevac, thats what i was aiming for.

These Knights are looking fantastic, cant wait to see them finished!

Love the Banner and the Carapace modifications.

Thanks Magicman.

Time for another update. Firstly, I painted the banner, added a text piece and attached them to the shaped plasticard.  The artwork was scanned and reduced on my pc, then I painted  using very watered down paint to try and give an "artistic nmm" style to them.

I then took a deep breath and decided to jump in with my airbrush.  Took a bit of figuring out how thin to make the paints and what pressure to use, but i think I'm getting the hang of it.  Using a H+S ultra with a 0.2mm needle gives me both good coverage for larger areas and fine controll for some of the detailing.

First go was to try an NMM steel on the chasis of the knights.  Started from the basecoat of black, did a first highlight in old Shadow Grey, then a top highlight in white.

After getting some feedback I toned down the white with a thinned coat of a Shadow grey/black mix

Just need to do the onerous task of very thinly egde highlighting the chassis now.

I also decided to test the colour scheme I want to use for the armour panels using one of the spare Armiger ankle panels I have.

The gold was airbrushed in smaller areas starting as Black - black/snakebite leather - snakebite - snakebite/yriel yellow - yriel yellow - yriel/white - white

The purple is Black - black/vallejo royal purple - royal purple - royal purple/old Tentacle pink

The gold was then edge highlighted with thinned pure white.

More to follow - I'm planning to build the Knight's Sacristans as an Adeptus Mechanicus kill team, so there'll be a few weird and crazy conversions coming there too.

The banner is beautiful. Is that Saint Celestine? What do the Gothic words mean?

It's supposed to represent Lady Sabine De Valdis, Scion of Archangel, Known as the Eternal Flame, the Voice of the Emperor Ascendant and the last living daughter of House De Valdis.

The Gothic (pig latin) Translation is:

Ego Sum Ignem - Ferrrum Vindicata ego - In ira mea est

I am Fire - Iron and vindication - In anger I was born

Ignis arma mea - Fumignatum fueled iram - Odio Flagrat Vindic

Fire is my weapon - Anger fuels my rage - Hatred burns for Vengence

Update Time.

there has been much progress, and I think i'm starting to get the hang of the airbrush a bit better now.

Firstly with Archangel's base.  I want the rhino he's stepping on to look really badly battle damaged, with that burnt out rusting look, but with some of the original colour scheme still visible as patches of paint that haven't burnt off.  To do this I'm going to attempt a scale modelling trick of chipping the paint off using hairspray.  I started by spraying the rhino a vallejo colour called red/black, then randomly spraying patches of evil sons scarlet and wild rider red.  This was then followed by very watered patches of troll slayer orange to give me the base colour for the rust.  I've applied the first layer of hairspray and am now letting it dry for 24hrs before applying the second.  Once this dries I'll spray the Astral Claws scheme on and then chip lots of it away using water and an old toothbrush...

WKs0i3R.jpg

The Armigers have both received more paint, and I'm considering Seraphim 97% done, and Cherubim 80% done.

Started by pure white edge highlighting the entire chassis, then went on to properly try an nmm gold scheme on all the armour trim.  The Gold was worked up from a black basecoat, firstly airbrushing vallejo heavy brown (a greyer snakebite leather), then heavy brown/yriel yellow, then pure yriel, then yriel/white, then pure white.  This was all then edge highlighted in pure white.

The armour panels were worked up from the black base by first airbrushing Vallejo Royal purple, then Royal Purple/Tentacle pink (3:2), then Royal Purple/Tentacle pink (1:1).  Any panel edges were then edge highlighted pure tentacle pink.

Seraphim - The Warrior, Piloted by Silvaine Mordai Valdiri, Oathsworn of House De Valdis

LuDQklF.jpg

The main differences with Seraphim were the belfry and the weaponry.  The belfy was painted the same way as the armour plates, with the exception of the interior of the arches being blue, and the bell itself being more of a bronze nmm than gold.  This was painted a similar way to the armour trim, only the base colour was rhinox hide, withheavy brown and troll slayer orange added for the highlights.  The Volikte Culverin was given a purple casing and nmm gold nozzle.  The radiator fins were painted troll slayer then highlighted up to yriel before being washed with an old pot of red ink several times.  The lance again has a purple casing, though the lance pole was kept more black/steel with blue OSL and nmm gold detailing.

Cherubim - The Herald, piloted by Eloi Richelle Valdiri, Oathsworn of House De Valdis

NrG3YnO.jpg

Cherubim was painted in the same way as Seraphim, the only exception being that I need to adjust and paint the leg armour panels, finish the ammo belts and the Imperial Eagle banner top.  The crucible was painted nmm gold, with the coals painted white and then washed with mixes of red and yellow inks.  The top was painted with the same inks, with some black added to the trailing edge of the flame and the skulls black and charred.

The banner was then attached to the pole after the hand and pole were painted

I've also painted the base colours and highlights on Archangel's armour panels as well

Those night time style shots look incredible. How difficult is it to drill the legs on the marines? Do you start drilling on one end of the leg, get halfway and then starting drilling from the other end?

It's really easy to drill the marines legs.  I used a 2mm drill bit in a cordless power drill (since i can control how fast it's going)  I usually drill from the foot up on the straightest leg until i get near to the hip joint, then at an angle from the centre of the pelvis to match the two holes.  The torso's are drilled out after being stuck together using the same drill from the neck down as the recess the helmet fits into is a perfect guide.

Excellent work on the Adepta Sororitas Knights. To avoid confusion with a pre-existing unit, it may be necessary to change Seraphim's name. May I suggest "Erelim"?

An Arel, Ar'el, or Er'el (Heb. pl. Erelim — "hero", "valiant one") refers to a rank of angels in Jewish Kabbalah and Christianity. The name is seen to mean "the valiant/courageous". They are generally seen as the third highest rank of divine beings/angels below God.

That's all ready for Armies on Parade at Warhammer World this weekend.  Now do I go back to Primaris Howling Griffons, or something else to flesh out the rebuilding after Badab?

well its been a long time since i updated this but now seems as good a time as any.

After Armies on Parade I decided to update the Sacristan team and add a few more members to flesh it out as an Inq28 warband as well.  Below are some updated shots of the figures.

And the new additions

EgO6bMi.jpg

Adept Kuznetsov - The Acolyte, The Empty Chalice

and a WIP

bmZLuTD.jpg

Lambda 51 - The Guardian, The The Vaultkeeper

Now the other bit of good news and the reason for updating the team.  Armies on parade at Warhammer world was brilliant, so many displays and boards to look at (and ideas to "appropriate!") but the 2 bits of news i got made the whole weekend.

Firstly i won the bronze in the customer category.

HKOdSmH.jpg

Secondly, got chatting to several staff members

WL8vQzW.jpg

and I've been offered a complete guest display in the Warhammer world museum.  It'll mostly be my Eldar Exodites, but they also want the board with the knights, the sacristans and a Howling Griffon Kill team too.

If anyone is interested and wants to see them, they'll be on display from Saturday 15th December for about 3 months.

oh and as I appear to have forgotten  here's a shot of the board i entered too....

feedback welcome as ususal!

Lovely and unique Ad Mech models. Up close the paint looks a bit thick and blocky, but from a distance they look great which is what I'm guessing you're going for? Man, I love those kitbashes...

Edit: Never mind, I just realized they're still WIP... ugh. I've been up too long.

Thanks Duskraider.  The paints are actually really thin (I tend to brush paint with airbrush consistency paints) I wanted the blocky look to help them stand out - kind of an Inq28 style.

Excellent works.

Thanks as usual Bjorn

As I've said over at the Ammobunker, fantastic work! And congratulations on the guest display! :smile.:

Thanks Kraut, you've no idea how happy I wa to see a reply from one of the "greats" (I've been lurking on your logs for ages)

Just a quick update for now, as there are a few ideas percolating about a ministorum warband, and exploring more of the Badab background

Finished up Lambda-51, and yes, the flames are topknots from the savage orc kit (as I don't need them because I'm making the Orcs into Gorrilas!)

ZdWSnGU.jpg
nNJr1fd.jpg
aKclrHu.jpg

More to come as soon as I've nailed down a few ideas.  I know I want to make a couple of dioramas or scenes showing the atmosphere of the conflict (probably using a couple of IG tanks I have lying around) as well as a small ministorum party (think crazy priests and a Grey Astartes covered script, parchment and candles known only as "The Herald".

The heavy flamer wielder looks great, but as flamers are short-range weapons, he (she? it, meaning this is a war robot, not a Skitarius?) needs escorts with medium-range weapons to suppress enemy fire until he's close enough to bring the flamers to bear.

Personally, I'd either replace one heavy flamer with a heavy arc rifle, or kitbash the heavy flamer into a combi-weapon by mounting a boltgun above it. Techno-heresy? It's only heresy if it fails to work!

Thanks for the feedback Bjorn. The idea with Lambda-51 if that it’s a defensive bodyguard, the flamers allowing it to protect its charge from anything that gets through the first lines of defence.

In other news this happened

https://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/2018/12/14/guest-display-mark-kilburns-conversion-showcase/

Yup I’ve been honoured with a full cabinet guest display in the exhibition hall at Warhammer World. It’s my armies on parade board plus a selection of my Exodites.

Cannot begin to tell people how chuffed I am with this.

Onwards and upwards. I have a ministorium warband to start.
