Iron warriors list building need help

Hey all!

 

Well I have to be honest I don't have the red book for the heresy but I do have the black books and I am looking to start an Iron warriors force for the 2017 tale of hobbyists. The hard part for me is I don't have an army list to really structure my painting schedule. I would like to run the iron fire right of war at the 5,000 pt level.

So far I have:

30 mk iv marines

20 breachers

15 cataphractii terminators

20 mk ii marines

 

The plan is to add plenty of phosphex, and barrage weapons in the future. I just don't know how to build out my tactical and terminators to achieve the best battlefield efficiency

 

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

If you going to run phoz fire, 4 x 3 quad guns for elites and 3 x 3 earth shaker/medusa squadrons should do the trick.   The rest is just filler.

Thank you for the response would shatter shells and phosphex on the quad guns be my best options? Should I aim to use 1 big blob of 30 infantry or run them in 3 x 10 man tactical squads? Would 2 x 10 squads of iron havocs armed with missile launchers be considered over kill?

Just as a quick tipp, should you run newtoncains list you might loose a few friends. ;)

Tactical squads only go up to 20. If you run them as 10man squads definitly put them in rhinos.

I personally qould just go with one squad and invest the other point into something they can hide in.

Too bad one can only bring 3 Medusae max, since the Legion Artillery Squadron is a 0-1 choice.

Since you're looking at a really huge list at 5k points, you'll be having a lot of bodies on the table in any case.

 

I'd go with:

- Siege Breaker

- 3x3 Mortars (Phosphex)

- Apothecaries to attach to your Tac squads

- 2x20 regular Tacs with Voxes and kitted Sergeants

- 2x10 outflanking sniper Veteran Tacs in Rhinos

- 1x10 Breachers (since you bought them) in a Phobos

- 1x3 Medusae (no Phosphex)

- 2x5+ Cataphractii with guns and gloves to taste

- Perturabo (for MotL to unlock Ironfire, and DS on your Cataphractii)

 

Add anti-armour and / or more scoring units to taste, depending on the mission. Still a lot of room in 5.000 pts. here.

9 Ironfire phosphex mortars aren't gonna be fun for anyone, but rest of the list isn't so strong at 5k so it should compensate a little. I'd still lose a battery or two, just for your opponent's sake.

So true on the making friends.  Personally I only run HoO, phos is just too dirty.  But if you local meta runs dirty, dirty lits.  I guess you have to join them.  The entire reason I started 30k was go GET AWAY from all the min/max WAACAHs that justify being Richard Craniums by playing in tournaments.

You need to think about air and anti-air options too at 5k points. I'd be going with atleast 2 ol' reliable primaris strike fighters. With all the points you could kit them with both krakens for anti armour and phosphex for infantry.
