Declare your Sept!

And show us some good pics!

Now with the ability to post our T'au machines of war here at the B&C, I'd like to take a few moments to get the ball rolling (plus I wanted to jump ahead of Elmo, since I knew he'd be along eventually ;) ).

I have been painting a slightly modified version of the Farsight Enclaves T'au color scheme (because I seem to be incapable of painting anything exactly the way GW does their stuff - I have gone just a little lighter in my scheme).

A few of my pieces:

Shas'vre Ob'lotai 9-0 (a little big, so you'll have to Unhide them to look at everything):

The Four-Fingered Mont'ka are a break away from the Farsight Enclaves, a 'Exploration/Intervention' Cadre. They have not abandoned the Enclaves, but were launched to the far side of the galaxy in their jump capable fortress station while exploring a seemingly stable phenomenon.

In unknown, hostile space they fight to survive and return home.

The firecaste T'au before their journey would mark a successful trial of fire by hunting an apex avian predator, successfully capturing it alive and taking a feather from it's head to wear on their person, marking their suits as well.

Their tallirissa bond would be for the team leader and all teammates to slash a hand on their bonding knife, mix the blood into a bowl and then each would dip their hand into it and press it on their face and helmets over the left eye.

Instead of red armor, they favor a variation on the standard armor of the T'au with blue markings, representing the T'au blood's color. Their Sept markings are of course grey like the Enclaves.

The Firecaste of the Mont'ka, celebrate their hunting heritage in battle, seeking out what they see as the greatest prey, Space Marines. They prefer to hunt Space Wolves and Chaos Possessed marines for the extra challenge of hunting them.

Atia and I had a big old xenos talk about backstabbing the Imperium color schemes as she wanted me to do my white Scars scheme for my tau but I am firmly in the Shas'o R'alai paint scheme camp:

I'm trying to replicate this^^ by doing a color gradient with my Tau as FW doesn't have the paint scheme anymore:

I'll be hitting these dudes with dark reaper and thunderhawk blue in an attempt to recreate R'alai's paint scheme. I believe he's of the Da'lyth Sept, but he lacks markings. I'll need to find a new sept with the markings that will jive with the color :D

I had to strip all my old models with 90% isopropyl alcohol as I still had my old kid paint scheme from like 10 years ago and wanted to make a much improved, realistic look. But don't let the ethereals hear me talking about this...

My army does not hail from a sept specifically, for they are not Tau, but a vassal race of humanoid reptilians known as the Physsian Stratocracy, descendants of the same race once ousted from their home world by the Imperium during the time of the Great Crusade.

This has left them with a full blown hatred of the Imperium (although not humanity itself), and Space Marines in particular. For this reason, the T'au, although cognizant of their martial capabilities, have tried to remove them from theaters of war involving the Imperium and any kind of diplomacy.

In the modern era, their new adopted home-system lies to the south east of T'au itself, and encompasses two worlds, the capital of which is known as Phy'rakos. In practice, any group of Physsians would be considered to be of the Phy'rakos Sept, regardless of the fact that the world is still in the early stages of integration into the T'au Empire.

Their colors are (at the moment) undecided. (Which is why I'm psyched to finally get some feedback from the frater on B&C.)

Unfortunately none of my models are really in a decent enough state to show off, but I can show you my commander: Shas'o Ksi’m’yen Ol'shas'ka

I think my Tau could really use a new colour scheme. Right now they're headed somewhere like this, but I feel like I really need to get away from my habit of painting models solely in grey, black, dark iron or white.

Kavaal Korst'la'sha'is (Strike Group Reaping Wind)

Being from a military background I wanted a muted, real life colour scheme which was supported in the fluff as the Tau Empire is known to adopt colour schemes to suit the environment in which they wage war.

After much searching on the internet I went for a lozenge pattern using dark green as a base with light green and a dark terracotta as the patches with dark red highlighting danger areas such as engine intakes and weapons. Markings where originally in tan but are now slowly being replaced with white along with the heads of the battle suits. The undersides of skimmers and aircraft has been done in light grey. A muted gold is used for some highlights along with lenses in either red or green. Cockpits and troop compartments started out in light grey but are slowly changing to khaki.

Initially my colour scheme was too "busy" and shiny and as time progressed I have toned it down.

My turn!

I decided on the Fal'shia sept color scheme in the book with a few of my own twists. I basically wanted a military green army, since I painted my Cadians in urban gear. To that end...

Here's a link to the full album, I'll just share some here.

All of the script is translatable. I'll leave it to you fine gents to figure out what each one says. Some will amuse, some may not.:biggrin.:

Magnetized all the weapons and gear. The dishes are shielded missile drone tops, turned into Early Warning Overrides, a dish much like the AWACS system.

For both posts, this is the army I used at Adepticon this year in the Maelstrom. It made a lot of boom...

It also won my local store's Inner Circle, so I'm officially a DA Knight apparently too lol

Wow....able to consolidate my T'au here along with my Raven Guard!

Cadre: Nightwind Cadre

Comander: Nightwind

Sept: Vi'orla

I know that white markings are now supposed to be T'au Sept, but these guys began way back in the 1st Edition Tau, where this annoying bit of fluff didn't exist), so I'm sticking with my original scheme

Cheers,

Valaas

Here are some old ones I did which have now been returned to the Guard...

They where done by removing the imperial iconography and the Sgt and  other where given pulse rifle/carbines and some T'au grenades where spread about. They where painted in the same colours as my Firewarriors.

I made these guys a long while back. Tau were an army I picked up, painted a bit, and abandoned maybe like 5 times. I could never get into it beyond a squad or two because of how static the models were, and how complicated it was to convert them (this was before their latest selections were released). This lot was imagined to be a Sept lost/abandoned on a world of junk, scavenging for what they needed to survive. They actually sat in the display case of my local GW for a while, which was the only useful thing they've ever done. :laugh.:

Actually they were useful for one other thing. I discovered with these guys how striking a brown base with turquoise accents could look. It's what lead me on the path to my Broken Arrows colors :smile.:

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I haven't gotten around to paint much lately and having no good Cam available at the moment...some old pics of my guys.

From the Sa'Cea Sept with Jungle/Forest camo armor. (Oh god please let Sa'Cea get things I don't hate with the upcoming Codex...)

I got better with the edge highlight since then (partially because I got WAY better brushes compared to the ones I used to use) and some minor details of the color scheme got changed here and there as well.

The Strike Team Shas'la color scheme is my basic color scheme and the Breacher one I decided to go with because I wanted people(and I) to be able to distinguish between them and Strike Teams on the first glance and I simply think that a unit that drives close to the enemy in a Devilfish and blasts things away with a shotgun doesn't care much about not wearing flashy gear. :tongue.:

The Hammerhead was supposed to become my Longstrike (normally getting used with the Railgun even in 7th) so that's why he has a ton more of the Sept color as well but I think I'll have to redo that one eventually.

The DS8 Turrets base was an experiment with GWs texture base and I'm not exactly pleased with how it looks at all. I already did proper jungle bases for other models in my army, but I can't take proper pictures at the moment as I mentioned above.
