Let me tell you a joke from that time.

– What is the strongest weapon in 40k?

– A Chaos Dreadnought. If you throw it at someone’s head, he dies.

About the driver’s left hand, I have been thinking about for some time now:

A chainsword is good option after all, I think.

A pointy stick is too medieval and a pointy power stick is too much a special weapon with AP rating.

But speaking of cavalry weapons, there is one, our Primarch used it, and still everyone is forgetting about it and wearing claws instead…

I think this could fit, or still a chainsword?

What do you think I was speaking of? ;)

In the other forum I upload the pics parallelly (a German one), someone recommended using the pointing finger hand to make him press a button on the console.

I like the idea, too.

I think we have collected some good options by now. :)

The next one will get the whip, I guess.

After re-reading the rules though, currently LS seem overpriced on one hand, and most useful in triples on the other.

And I’m currently lacking a 3rd 2E LS. I do have a flying rocker instead, but unsure what to do with this ugly thing.

Only 1 minute difference, but ninja’d by Race.

…apparently. But he edited the post the minute you posted yours.

One and a half cookies for Race and the other half for Deathspecter!

I tried painting one.

Not sure if the photos are any good, I'll probably have to came up with something about the light and borrow a better cam. Here you can barely tell the painted light from the natural.

But I'm not satisfied with this result anyway, I'll try a second marine next time and hopefully it will look good enough to make the rest of the unit at once.

At the and you see a comparison with a Terminator from 5 years ago.

If youre shooting from your phone or even a point shoot a good trick is to prop it up on a small bean bag or beanie and set the timer delay to >2 seconds.

That way you can have a significantly lower shutter speed to increase exposure without the motion blur.

This will let you shoot in less intense light and not have the details washed out.

I’m shooting with an old digicam I bought like 10 years ago.

The result is sharp enough (at least it seems so to me) but the colours are wrong. It even looks more… corny and drybrushy than it is, and it already is more so than I’d like.

Ahh yes... that might be more difficult to compensate for. If you have a newer smart phone you can try the same trick and use HDR mode. They're probably more capable than a 10yo p&s at this point! Ha

The cam is usually OK, at least I thought so. I also wasn't precise: The colours aren't even wrong, but the blendings get eaten.

I think the key should be to do something with the light, balcony + cloudy sky seem not enough. I'll have to look for ground glass or sth.

But this mini wasn't painted to my satisfaction anyway, so next time.

Second marine, better cam, less light, messing around with it a little.

Should give a better impression on how it really looks.

I like the blendings more now, but the choice of colours turned out too warm despite the blue.

The third marine will be slightly different again.

  • 1 year later...

Before you ask: This is how I do my projects. I start them and let them rest for years. Prevents from getting finished or anything comparably terrible.

Anyway, on the occasion of a “competition” in another forum (“build a 30k centurion for fame and honour”), I have a captain now:

And this time I’ll actually start painting it right away, so expect updates.

Honestly!

(Maybe)

The game is: Guess the Company.

It’s easy. You probably already have. ^^
