Shas la T'au Kais rules?

Recommended Posts

So i recently read the book "fire warrior" and liked it alot. I think it really gives alot of character to the Tau empire, and especially to one fire warrior in particular, Kais. Does anyone know if there are any rules i could proxy for him, or another model with rules i could use?

Well he's the same dude but a Shas'o in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and one of Puretide's three main pupils in the fluff now. In DoW he has armor similar to Shadowsun - that experimental doodad.

I'd use the Shadowsun model with the helmet and outfit him accordingly. Run him as a Shadowsun stand in or just give him regular commander rules. Otherwise, maybe run him as a cadre fireblade?

I think your first option is likely best. I havent seen 8th rules for tau yet but are fire blades worth it?

Look at my Ring of Fire tactic thread and tell me ;) but yeah they are an effective, cheap HQ choice to get your 3 command points.

Same chap, really? I thought I read somewhere that his exploits made him go crazy?

Anyway, I loved that game.

Developer commentary indicated it was indeed the same dude who killed chaos dreadnoughts with a bolter :P

...but man was the bolter in that game super realistic!

while the game had some questionable story elements, I honestly think it's the only game to get the aesthetic of 40k perfectly. Like, those bolters dude...

Waaayyyy back in White Dwarf 288 (Jan 2004 US issue) there was a one time special scenario the White Dwarf team did with the Fire Warrior game developers, that had stats for Kais:

Kais , Points N/A , WS3 , BS4 , S3 , T3 , W2 , I3 , A2 , LD8 , SV4+
Wargear : Rail rifle with target lock designator and photon grenades.

SPECIAL RULES
Unswerving loyalty: Kais is unswerving in his loyalty to the Greater Good and will never veer from his cause. As such, Kais automatically passes all Morale checks, and any unit he is with will also benefit from this rule.

Divine destiny: A great hero of the Tau, Kais seems destined to achieve his mission, despite all the odds. Whenever Kais takes a wound he may allocate it to another Tau model within 2" of him before any saving throws are taken. This represents Kais dodging at the final moment or another Fire Warrior selflessly sacrificing himself for the Greater Good.

Technologically adept: Kais has modified his own rail rifle to be lighter and more streamlined than the version commonly used by Pathfinders. Due to the Rail rifle's innovative design, it is regarded as Assault 2 rather than Heavy 1 , so Kais can move and shoot with it. Furthermore , Kais's Rail rifle does not suffer the "Get Hot" weapon rule if he uses his Target lock designator.

Independent Character As per 40k rule book , though in the scenario he starts attached to either a Fire Warrior or Pathfinder squad.

Nowadays I'd just take a Cadre Fireblade and call it a day, unless you want to proxy Shadowsun or a Shas'o.

As far as him being insane, at the end of the novel he was in a medical ward recovering from his brush with Chaos.  They left it there.  It wasn't touched further save for the bit of video game where it was implied it was the same Kais.  So.. your mental fluff may vary but I see no reason why he couldn't with time and treatment recover from his PTSD

(went and dug through my collection, and I do have a copy of that issue, it was also one with a Bretonnian map campaign so I made sure to get it)

Here we go, I started with Darkstrider's Datasheet as a base, but upgraded Kais to Power 4 due to his added survivability,

gallery_48988_13298_528414.png

V2 - Changed D4 to D3 with no Hit penalty.

V3 - Added "friendly T'AU EMPIRE" to Unswerving Loyalty special rule.

You've got his rank wrong :smile.:  Shas'O are in battlesuits, whereas a Shas'la or Shas'ui would be on foot.  The Cadre Fireblade is as far as one can advance without donning a battlesuit in the Tau military.

Technical nit-pick though :smile.:  Otherwise it looks good!

Just noticed the rule about "any unit he is with" will need a radius as Characters cannot join units now.  Perhaps the same 2" radius?  6" seems a bit powerful for one minor Shas'la (which he is at the time of the game and that profile).  Technically the target lock they gave him is redundant now, as at the time it is what allowed a model to target a separate target from the rest of his unit (split-fire).

'Kais' means skilled in the T'au language, and since T'au gain their names by their achievements, 'Kais' is like 'John' or 'Bob'.

The Enclave supplement never mentioned Farsight (also has 'Kais' in his list of names) doing what firewarrior kais does (he would probably never be allowed in a battlesuit, or if anything [oldfluff] he would be put in a stealth suit)

In the oldfluff, it was inferred that stealth suit pilots were Mavericks and free thinkers, which in the T'au empire is...frowned upon.

So they were given inferior stealth suits with inferior weapon options and put in situations where their 'lonewolf' actions would likely get them killed (for the greater good)

Now though stealth suits got a proper toughness and wound bump (sadly can't use them for my Titanfall skirmish minigame anymore)

What the...never noticed we have Xenos subforums now. Well time for me to add another link to my bookmarks. :D

Actually there are exceptions. Superiors just don't like it when a soldier refuses to fight in their new given role.

Just look at Darkstrider whose full name is Shas'El'Myamoto (ranked just below Shas'O and is superior to Shas'Vre).

Also Shas'Ui are usually in battlesuits as well unless they are leading a unit of Shas'la.

Also also Fireblades are called Shas'Nel which are just below Shas'El and above Shas'Vre and are the ultimate destination of a T'au soldier without fighting in a suit unless you actively resist orders but prove your worth in battle like Darkstrider. However wearing the Shas'Nel title comes with much less prestige as with the Shas'O or Shas'El title even tho they gain a lot respect for dedicating themselves to that path in their life. ;)

^ this

There's also a 'Kais in the DoW1 games which is hinted at being the very same 'Kais that is part of the Puretide disciple trio. It really is a very common name/title.

I have always thought of the Fireblades as the Firecaste version of Sargent Majors. Specifically Sargent Major Plumley portrayed by Sam Elliot in We Were Soldiers.

"Any of you bastards call me 'grandpa' and I'll kill ya," type of thing.

I agree. The suit pilots are more career oriented whereas the Fireblades are more worried about getting their guys back safe. Not implying one is better but just two different viewpoints.

I'm sure there have been one or two in history that have grabbed a hot blooded Shas'vre by the scruff and tell them to sit down and shut up :D
