Primaris of the First Legion

I decided to jump on the bandwagon and I'm glad I did, Primaris are beautiful!

I've gone with a rather bright green for the First Legion. But don't knock it yet, all of the extra details and washes should knock it back a bit.

Deciding on how I'm going to approach all of the feather details. I think I'll build up a bone color from brown.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I'm just doing slow and regular updates and it keeps me invested in the mission - complete an army!

I think once the red and bone details have been hammered out, it will all come together.

Here's the Lt. before highlights. Just a simple gloss wash followed by a matte varnish.

you varnish before highlighting?

Yea, it's an odd method. I feel like I'm doing it wrong. But I tried highlighting after my wash and then applying a matte varnish and it sucked all the bright green I wanted out of the edge highlighting.

I have to say, at first, I wasn't a fan of the bright green - I prefer my Dark Angels a bit more, well, dark - but since you've shaded them they're looking great. All these really impressive Primaris Marines are making me itch to get my hands on them.

You should! They are awesome fun to paint.

which mat varnish do you use? would you be able to do a step by step so i can see the process?

Sure thing. I will do that with my next model. :)

I am contemplating cutting off his Iron Halo.

Also, do I have suggestions on basing? I was interested in using a tiny bit of snow, maybe a tundra with some spotty snow and highland grass.

Moved house so I've been out of action for a few days. Anyway, set my little desk up and started to chip away at old Captain mate. Almost done, I reckon one more session.

Also finally got some better lighting to appreciate the blends more. All the other photos have been taken at night time.

Looks great. Might be worth considering a (I forget the term, it's when you paint like a wash but very watered down without too much paint in it) watery light wash of a (very) dark green to tie all the green together

I understand it's quite different, I was hoping all the gold, white, red and decals may convince people right away that he is a Dark Angel.

I am committing though, I really enjoy painting this and I love the First Legion.
