There are some items that are Chapter Specific, but some that are not. The Index states these Datasheets expand upon those in the Imperial 1 & 2 Indexes, but doesn't update the lists of what non 'Codex' Chapters can take. For example, the Chaplain Dreadnought. Can only 'Space Marine' Chapters take this? Or can Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and every <Chapter> possible take them? Are the non Codex Chapters limited to only entries that state their specific Chapter name? Why? If it's the list of units they can take as given in the Imperial 1 or 2 Index, then they couldn't even take their Chapter specific entries from the Forces of the Adeptus Astartes... Is there any reason that the Dark Angels can't have a Chaplain Dreadnought? Edit: The book is the Forces of the Adeptus Astartes, and the section (for the Dread) is 'Adeptus Astartes Dreadnoughts' and Dark Angels (and all other non 'Codex' Chapters) have the Adeptus Astartes keyword... The first is that you follow the rules given in the Imperium 1 Index and where it says <CHAPTER> you substitute the word Grey Knights (or whatever) and you're good to go. This follows on from FW saying that unit choices are available to those who didn't have them before. The second is because of the restriction list in Imperium 1 for what a Faction like BA can take and that there is no exception to this shown in the FW book, we can't take anything from the book that says <CHAPTER>. If you field a codex chapter, you simply add your own CHAPTER keyword to any ADEPTUS ASTARTES datasheet. The BA entry in the index states exactly what ADEPTUS ASTARTES Datasheets can have the BLOOD ANGELS keyword. If the FW book adds to this list, and states that certain, or all datasheets within can have the BLOOD ANGELS keyword, then you're fine. If it does not say that a specific ADEPTUS ASTARTES datasheet can have the BLOOD ANGELS keyword, then it cannot. RAW: Definitely RAI: Definitely not. Annoying: Definitely. TheWolfLord Posted June 21, 2017 Share Posted June 21, 2017 (edited) People are confusing Space Marine with Adeptus Astartes. All the units in the FW Index are Adeptus Astartes. The restriction in the Space Wolves section says: The following Space Marines datasheets can be from the Space Wolves Chapter. Nowhere does it say anything other than Space Marine. What's a Space Marine unit? Only those found in the Space Marine section of the Imperial Index 1. Space Marine does not mean Adeptus Astartes therefore there are no restrictions on the entries in FW IA Adeptus Astartes Index. GW has clarified the Adeptus Astartes faction has Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Death Watch and Grey Knights as sub factions. The restriction is clearly against Space Marine units which is a subfaction of Adeptus Astartes. The only confusion seems to be people who incorrectly classify Space Marines as all Adeptus Astartes as an in game rule. That's why Codex: Adeptus Astartes Space Marines are a different faction to Codex: Adeptus Astartes Dark Angels. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

(p. 4 par. 1) "When playing games of Warhammer 40,000 using the matched play rules, or any other game using a point limit, the following list should be used to determine the points cost of any Space Marines units included in the army." (p.71 par. 1) These are the only places that talk about who can field these units.
