MT - Scion Objective Grabbers

Recommended Posts

Hey all - new to Astra Militarum so please bear with me.

I'll be adding some Militarum Tempestus to my Ad Mech with the intention of air-dropping them mid-field and deep behing enemy lines.  Besided the Command Squads with Plasma and Melta to blow things up, I'm thinking of building some as objective grabbers too.  Since air drop happens at the end of the Move phase, I could use them as-is to secure objectives with no enemies within 9".  However, what to do when the enemy closer?

Looking at the Orders, I'm thinking about dropping a Tempestor Prime and either a Command squad equipped with Flamers or a squad of basic Lasgun Scions.  The Move, Move, Move! order would let them move and advance towards the objective.  Flamers are assault d6 and auto hit, so the Command squad of four could advance within 3" of the objective and pour out an average of 14 Str 4 shots.  Hopefully they could reduce the enemy squad to three models or less and claim the objective

If I took the Lasgun Scions, they'd want to be a larger squad so that they could pile in as many bodies towards the objective as possible and outnumber the enemy rather than shoot at them.

Hell, I could take both, give the Tempestor a Command Rod and send all fourteen models towards the objective.  Bit expensive though, as they're considered sacrificial with the purpose of scoring easy stratagems.

Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea. I've only got one game in but I was able to win by deep striking a model onto the objective. I have 20 scions that will basically be doing the same thing once I start playing more games.

I often used deepstriking stormtrooper platoons in 7th with mixed results. Last night I played my 1st game of 8th edition and I used a stormtrooper platoon and it devastated the Eldar units and won me the game.

However, I kept wanting to give my 3 stormie squads orders but I sadly had no tempestor. I definitely will be trying out a tempestor and I encourage you to do the same.

The flamer tempestor squad idea might work well. I encourage you to test it the 2 units out and post your results here.

Scratch this idea with the Flamer squad.  The order says that the Move is in lieu of shooting, so they can't shoot after advancing.

A cheap as chips squad of lasguns would work, if to just grab an objective and then die horribly the next turn
