Inso' Primaris Patrol

I have some Primaris Space Marines.

They are very nice :) .

This topic will be a 'start to finish Primaris Patrol' topic.

Currently, I have a lieutenant, a bolter squad (5) and a plasma squad (5). I will be getting a second bolter squad and a second lieutenant and that will be it (unless I change my mind).

These are not a gaming force... just a small collection of miniatures.

I am going to do a small amount of conversion, on select miniatures, and paint them in camouflage but haven't decided on insignia yet... however, I doubt it will be a known chapter.

Photographs will follow once I start unpacking things :)

I am really looking forward to this because the new Primaris marines are the dogs :)

I have started to assemble the first marine and this was one that I wasn't really keen on because he has a sword. That said, it gives me a good opportunity to test things out so the first thing I did was use a standard marine, bald head and move the helmet to his waist:

It was only after I'd glued the head on that I realised it had a bionic eye, so I have started to convert the helmet to accommodate it. While assembling the body, I noticed that there was a little box with some skulls in it, attached to his belt so I removed it because i want these marines to be fairly clean.

I was hoping to have this one primed for painting today but I am being held back by the putty work on the helmet. Hopefully, by the end of tomorrow, it should see some primer.

I think that this miniature will be the 'hated leader' of the patrol. Someone who insists on being different and refusing to admit that he is wrong :smile.: .

nice looking model, the sculpting is ace.  My only concern is that from a physics stand point, the helmet location looks off.  I say this because it is in the way of his sword arm.   Usually if you were going to strap a helmet to your side, it would be more towards the back, not all the way behind, but more behind then the front you have yours.   Also it would make more sense to strap it to the side where he is shooting from, than his stronger arm that wields the sword, as the helmet is now in the way of that sword arm and would make him actually worse at melee.    Just point out a realism perspective that many do not think about or consider when they create art.   While it may look good, sometimes you have to think about placement versus actual function if it were real.

I fully understand... but... the backstory to this particular Marine is that he is the 'hated' leader of the patrol and who never listens to what he is told so continues to make mistakes for his long suffering Senior NCOs to clear up. The men are fed up with him but the same SNCOs prevent them from taking matters into their own hands.

That means that the awkward position of the helmet actually suits the miniature because he won't listen to sense and refuses to learn :smile.: .

(I think about realism as well as art... hence I had to correct the helmet so that it looked like the bionic eye would fit :smile.: ).

That aside, I have started the camo and just have the little black flecks to add... but I am happy with the way it looks so far:

The aim is to use similar colours to British DPM but use a stylised pattern, with geometric shapes, rather than random splodges. This first miniature is a trial so if it ends up that I don't like the scheme, I don't have to use him :smile.: .

I have now started using Imgur for my photos, as a result of Photobucket changing it's terms of use; turning all of my images into place holders and wanting $399.99 per year, to return them to images...

... so the edits on the above posts were just to replace placeholders with images from Imgur :)

Still ticking along on these... still very WIP... but a little progress, is still progress, isn't it?:

The base is very wet (I'm using crackle paint) and I still have lots of bits and bobs to finish.

I quite like that - lining the camouflage really makes it pop.  It's a little closer to "Atlantic Wall" than DPM with its brown tones - a warmer style of Swedish M90.  I always wanted to paint up tanks in BAOR Berlin Brigade pattern, but I don't have the skill.

I like the base as a compliment to the green, but it seems to blend the brown a little too much, but that's just my personal preference.  I do like the final head skin tones, nicely done.

Good work all round, more!

MR.
