The Calixis Crusade - Into the Outer Dark.

Recommended Posts

I've got a bulk update for you guys. This isn't even everything I've been working on lately but here we go. I'll do a fluff update soon too...

First off, here's my newest Castellan. Bolt Pistol, Plasma Pistol, Powersword.

Next up  is a squad of hellblasters using the Kromlech tabard bodies.

This next guy is from my deathwatch killteam. He's a salty old combat specialist with heavy thunderhammer.

Here's something that isn't legal in the game (unless you can give me a unit suggestion that it can proxy for.) I plan to use it for a diorama. It's the auto-reliquary of St. Byrenus, the Martyr of Valais IV. I'll write up the fluff for him soon. It's a sequel to my previous fluff post in this thread so if you're curious about the continuing saga of the Calixis Crusade (and I just know you are haha) then check that out first.

And saving my favorite for last, I've finished the leader of my crusade, Marshal Gerhardt (counts as Helbrecht.) He wears the armor of the previous Marshal, Sigurd, who died on Valais IV. The black robes  and blacked out heraldry are a sign of mourning. Also carries the rosarius of the former reclusiarch who  sustained grievous injuries at Valais IV and was interred into a dreadnought.

And what the hell, here's a bonus Thunder Warrior for your weekend.

Well done. As "Gerhardt" is similar to "Gerhart," I can't help but wonder if he shares a namesake with Tankred.

Marshal Gerhardt endures.

I have that comic but I didnt make the connection. I usually pick names from a list of real historical Teutonic knights

It's good to give one's own army a theme- CHARACTER and INDIVIDUALITY- to distinguish it from everyone else's. I attempted to give my armies the same qualities in my IAs.

Still blown away by the use of the Stormcast Eternals. Your Helbrecht is quite da bomb.

So, you're saying, I too can get a box of these  SE things and build out cool miniatures just like you? Is there a particular box of these things one should get over any other. I'm totally AoS ignorant.

Cheers,

Cheers,

The ones I like are Stormcast Sequitors because they have robes. But I don't buy boxes because I don't need 3-5 of them. Just one at a time. Also one of them is usually female in the newer kits, but she could be used as a power armored Inquisitor. I usually go to bitsandkits.co.uk or places like that when I do a conversion. Hoard O Bits is where I go if I have to make a whole squad.

I also want to shout out to our very own canadian_f_h, he did a cool conversion with this same Stormcast Sequitor, but he bulked out the lower legs with plasticard and it looks great!

Dude, your work is unbelievable. You’ve inspired me to look into stormcsst models now.

Thank you! I'd like to see what you make with them.

Oh I want to point out that the legs on my pointing castellan are from blood warriors of some sort. AoS chaos units have great leg armor in dynamic poses as well if you shave off the icons.

I don't know if this will be seen but I want to post it here before cluttering up the board with another thread.

I want to build an assault squad or a vanguard vet squad. Vanguard's are better but I already have tons of elites and zero fast attack. Then again, I always go with rule of cool because I rarely play, but I still want my army to be viable.

So my question is, what is your favorite loadout for vanguard vets? I think I have enough bits to make up to 10 bodies but I want to get this nailed down before I buy arms and weapons.

@Chaplain Matthias: For me, every sword brethen with power weapons + plasma/grav pistols and the occasional storm shields for extra durability. Swords and axes, maybe a pair of maces when you want more str for T5 foes and armor isn't important due to lack of it or inv saves. Maybe dual lightning claws on the squad leader for extra attacks with those sweet wound rerolls. Special pistols are great (and even more for their cost, compared to other editions).

I wouldn't model them with thunder hammers, power fists or the like. For me, that's terminators job

Also, if I land vanguard vets, always with jump-packs. If I had to field them without jump-packs, I'd rather field some cataphractii terminators with fists or claws (depending of their desired job and opponent)

Massively disagree on the Hammers. They kick arse!

A trick which helped a few times in recent games was having a big standard BP/CS marine in the squad, (cheap) I pair the squad with a jump chaplain for the re-rolls, then if the vanguard make the charge, and the chaplain doesn't the cheap marine hangs back a couple of inches and extends the chaplain's aura to the hammers, it saves a lot of hits!

I modelled mine with all hammers and shields, I then magnetised the jump packs, so that I can now play them as company vets as well.

I just made a couple techmarines using bits I had laying around.

This first one has a conversion beamer and power axe

And then I also made a melee oriented guy. He has a servo harness, power axe, and plasma pistol.
