INTRO:

Yup, it's me, starting yet another WIP thread for a new project that I'll never finish - except, this one isn't for it's own project, it's to collate all the other ones. Now that the forum is open to Xenos content, I'm starting a new thread here to collect all my designs from 30k and 40k in one place, and although I don't yet have any xenos concepts to show, they're certainly on their way.

Basically, while my blog is a place where I can have a separate archive to refer back to, all that content will also be posted here, in addition to works in progress, teasers and discussion of rules tweaks.

INDEX:

This is for fully finished stuff only - concepts with rules

40k: Adeptus Astartes

30k: Legiones Astartes

30k: Mechanicum

WHAT'S NEXT?

For those of you who've followed my 30k designs, you'll know I've got a considerable back-log of concepts under my belt - part of this will be reviewing those (some will inevitably be consigned to the trash pile) and bringing them up to scratch, so they should appear in their final form at some point or another - you might have noticed I tend to do these in themed batches of three, so some are merely waiting for appropriate counterparts.

In terms of new stuff, I foolishly started a thread for designing new Imperial Guard Regiments from planets we're familiar with, so that'll be rolled into this one. I've also got a whole host of other stuff in the pipeline, so I'll give you a glimpse:

  • Harlequins Units - "Stilt Dancers, Furies and Shadowalkers"
  • A whole host of new Legion vehicles, including an entirely original tank chassis
  • Mechanicum Explorator units - Agrimensor Cadres, Hormeas Grav-Attack, Silphar Ornithopter
  • Ordo Reductor units
  • Imperial Army / Guard Tanks
  • An entirely new faction - Questoris Yeomanry - the retainer infantry troops of Knight Households 30k & 40k

And a whole bunch of stuff loitering on the edges of my feverish imagination

I hope you'll follow me along for the ride, and as always - thanks for looking

30k LEGIONES ASTARTES & 40k ADEPTUS ASTARTES: SICARAN BATTLE TANK VARIANTS

FAST ATTACK: Legion Sicaran Advancer Armoured Transport

Since the very first deployments of the Sicaran Battle Tank, a number of Forge Lords and Mechanicum Magi had contemplated the potential benefits of utilising the vehicle's speed and mobility as an Armoured Transport for the elite warriors of the Legiones Astartes. However, despite myriad different approaches from a dozen Forge Worlds, success could not be found, with the complexity of the Sicaran's internal construction hampering any attempts to extend its hull to allow for an expanded transport capacity.

Instead, the Magi of Armatura conceived of a Sicaran variant which combined a smaller passenger contingent allowed for by the existing hull with a suite of sensory and communication systems, which would allow the transport to function as a reconnaissance or command vehicle whilst maintaining considerable firepower. Although the Sicaran Advancer tended to find favour amongst specialist Legion formations rather than mainline forces, the limited production run before the Heresy's outbreak resulted in most vehicles being assigned as dedicated transports for commanding officers, a role in which the vehicle excelled.

Transport Capacity:

* The Sicaran Advancer has a transport capacity of 6 models, and may not transport models with the Bulky, Very Bulky or Extremely Bulky special rules.

Fire Points:

* None

Access Points:

* One access hatch on each side of the hull.

Options:

* The Sicaran Advancer may take any of the following upgrades:

- Hunter-killer missile

- Dozer blade

- Auxiliary drive

- Armoured cermite

* The Sicaran Advancer may exchange its twin-linked heavy bolter for one of the following:

- Twin-linked lascannon

- Twin-linked missile launcher (with frag and krak missiles)

Enhanced Auspex Sweeper:

The Sicaran Advancer’s hull integrates a number of high-power auspex scanners, linked into a central communications array mounted upon the vehicle’s exterior armour and networked in such a manner to provide accompanying troops with highly detailed tactical information on nearby enemy disposition and strength. Shooting attacks made by friendly models against enemy units within 24” of the Sicaran Advancer ignore cover saves, including those provided by the Stealth and Shrouded special rules. This effect extends to the Sicaran Advancer’s own shooting attacks.

The Legion Sicaran Advancer Armoured Transport is a Dedicated Transport option for Legion Command Squads, Legion Reconnaissance Squads and Legion Seeker Squads that number 6 models or fewer.

HEAVY SUPPORT: Legion Sicaran Vindex Air-Denial Tank

With the early successes of the Sicaran Battle Tank during initial testing by the Xth and XIIIth Legions, a second stage of development was envisaged by the twin intellects of Ferrus Manus and Robute Guilliman, the ultimate goal of which would be the eventual supplanting of the venerable Predator and its myriad variants as the premier medium battle tank of the Legiones Astartes. One of the earliest ventures of this secondary project undertaken by the Magi of the Tempestora Sect was the modification of the Sicaran's extremely sophisticated turret targeting array to alter the vehicle's function into a dedicated anti-aircraft tank, capable of keeping pace with Legion vanguard formations whilst purging the skies of any opposing aircraft.

The newly designated Sicaran Vindex had only seen limited deployment at the outset of the Heresy, with early contingents supplied to the Vth Legion, which had previously relied on dedicated aircraft to maintain air superiority parallel to its notoriously swift ground deployments. Although a number of Forge Worlds which owed fealty to the Iron Hands and Ultramarines continued to produce this variant of the Sicaran for Loyalist forces throughout the Heresy, the Warmaster's machinations had seen the lion's share assigned to those Legions which would discard their ties to the Imperium before the conflict's start.

- Hunter-killer missile

- Dozer blade

- Auxiliary drive

- Armoured ceramite

* The Sicaran Vindex may take a single pair of missile launchers (with flakk missiles)

Vindex Bolt Cannon Array:

A caliber of bolt weapon rarely seen outside the hosts of the Mechanicum, the Vindex bolt cannon array prioritises accuracy over rate of fire, with complex gyro-stabilisers enabling for negligible loss of accuracy despite the Sicaran’s considerable speed.

Vindex Bolt Cannon Array: Range: 36/48”* Str: 6 AP: 3 Type: Heavy 4, Skyfire, Sunder, Twin-linked

* The Vindex bolt cannon array has 2 ranges depending upon whether the Sicaran Vindex has remained stationary. If the Sicaran Vindex has moved in the preceding Movement phase, the weapon has a range of 36”. If it did not move, the range is increased to 48”.

HEAVY SUPPORT: Legion Sicaran Ustor Assault Tank

Designed in unison with the Sicaran Punisher, the Ustor variant of the Sicaran battle tank mounts the esoteric but nonetheless formidable Volkite Cascade in place of the former’s rotary cannon, a weapon otherwise unknown outside the armouries of a handful of Mechanicum Magos. It was with some consternation that many within the machine cult learnt of the Tempestora Sect’s bequeathal of the weapon’s design to the Forge Lords of the Legions, for while notoriously difficult to produce, the Volkite Cascade harnesses considerable destructive power for its size, and represents a cornerstone in the Mechanicum’s understanding of this class of energy weapon, whose origins date back to the Age of Strife.

This Volkite Cascade provides the Sicaran Ustor with considerable infantry-killing capacity, becoming especially devastating against entrenched enemy positions, where the weapon’s rapid rate of fire combined with the inherent combustive potential of Volkite beams creates a searing wave of incendiary energy around the target position, driving foes from cover and blossoming outwards is a series of secondary ignitions.

- Dozer blade

- Auxiliary drive

- Armoured ceramite

* The Sicaran Ustor may take one of the following sets of two sponson weapons:

- Heavy bolters

- Lascannon

Volkite Cascade:

Although bearing common purpose with a number of rotary projectile weapons, the addition of a rotating component to the complicated internal assembly of Volkite class energy weapons is entirely impractical, with the Volkite Cascade’s fixed multi-barreled design instead firing in a cyclic pattern to similar effect, unleashing a continual barrage of incendiary energy to scythe down anything within range.

30k TAGHMATA OMNISSIAH: THE LEGIO CYBERNETICA

FAST ATTACK: PERDITAX CLASS STRATOS-AUTOMATA:
Although similar analogues existed in the arsenals of a handful of separate Forge Worlds, suggesting a shared lineage, the Perditax Stratos-Automata only entered service with the Mechanicum at large when the design was ceded by the Vodian Consistory of Xana as part the treaty that brought the Forge World into the fold of the Imperial war machine. A single stage void to atmosphere interface craft, the Perditax is armed and armoured to be equally potent in both spheres of combat, and capable of engaging both mobile fighter craft and stationary or ground-based targets, though its limited operational range compared to dedicated void fighters relegates it to a primarily defensive role out of atmosphere.
This versatility may be the key to the Automata’s prevalence in the latter days of the Great Crusade, despite Xana’s unenviable reputation amidst the other enclaves of the Mechanicum, with the Stratos-Automata carried in the launch bays of most Forge Worlds’ expeditionary vessels. Whether fielded to defend the vessels of the Mechanicum or to assault the military of a non-compliant world, the Periditax’s nature as a Stratos-Automata enables it to achieve aeronautical feats impossible for any living pilot, bringing ruin to whatever target it is assigned.

Special Rules:
* Koios Cybernetica Cortex

Options:
* The Perditax Stratos-automata may exchange its missile launcher’s ignis-frag missiles for one of the following:
- Krak missiles
- Rad missiles
* The Perditax Stratos-automata may be equipped with any of the following:
- Ground tracking auguries
- Chaff launcher
Koios Cybernetica Cortex:
To accommodate the reaction speeds and navigational abilities required by void and atmospheric combat, the koios cortex removes a number of behavioural locks found within the cybernetica cortex of most other automata, granting the stratos-automata a degree of independence necessary for its role, but which cuts dangerously close to the level of self-awareness possessed by the reviled ‘abominable intelligence’ in the eyes of more outspoken facets of the mechanicum.
A model with a Koios Cybernetica Cortex has the Machine Creature and Programmed Behaviour special rules as provided by a Cybernetica Cortex, ignoring the ‘Methodical’ provision of the latter, and when applying the ‘Target Priority’ provision of this special rule, the controlling player may always attempt to target the nearest enemy Flyer or Flying Creature rather than just the closest enemy model when this special rule comes into effect. Additionally, any such model ignores results of Crew Shaken and Crew Stunned.
TROOPS: CHARNAX CLASS BATTLE-AUTOMATA MANIPLE:
Product of the particularly warlike Incaladion Mechanicum, the Charnax stems from the same Castellan STC as the ubiquitous Castellax, slowly adapted over the centuries to better counter the Xenos raiders which plagued the Forge World, as well as its own creators as the world’s fractious masters fell upon each other in the days of Old Night, before the coming of the Imperium. Disseminated amongst the myriad Forge Worlds of the Mechanicum alongside Incaladion’s other novel inventions – the price of salvation – the Charnax attained little widespread acceptance, its particularly malevolent animus and specialised role leaving it overlooked, a fate which would soon change as the Ullanor Crusade was launched in a tide of blood and fire.
Brutally suited to combating the bestial Orks, the Charnax was mass-produced for the conflict at an unprecedented scale, ferried from multiple Forge Worlds directly to the Crusade’s front, deployed en masse to pulverise the Xenos hordes. Though they were never again fielded in such numbers during the Great Crusade, the Heresy’s relentless toll ensured that the reserves of Charnax Battle-Automata retained by many Forge Worlds after Ullanor would be unleashed on both sides of the bitter conflict.

- Volkite culverin
Special Option:
* A single Maniple composed solely of a single Battle-automata (of any type) in the detachment may be given:
- The Paragon of Metal special rule
Aephus Pattern Rotor Cannon:
Enhancing the rotor cannon with higher-calibre rounds and an even faster rate of fire, the aephus pattern produces such significant recoil and heat gain that it could only ever be mounted upon a frame as resilient as that of the Charnax, enabling it to cut bloody swathes through the ranks of any foe.
Aephus Rotor Cannon: Range: 30” Str: 4 AP: 5 Type: Heavy 7, Rending, Pinning

ELITE: VENATORII MENTOETAR BATTLE-COVENANT:
The Menoetar Tech-Priests of the Legio Cybernetica are reknown amongst the fighting forces of the Imperium for the Cyber-corpora which carry them into battle alongside their hulking battle-automata, towering monstrosities replete with burnished plating and arcing power-fields. The Menoetar are amongst the most militant of the Legio Cybernetica’s priesthood, driven to unleash the terrifying power of their Order’s most advanced weaponry upon those who would oppose the might of their steel-clad creations, directing them amidst the maelstrom of battle with unflinching zeal.
Despite their awe-inspiring power, the Battle-Covenants of the Menoetar are held in mixed favour by their peers within the Legio Cybernetica, where some regard them as excessively avaricious, even envious of the automata which they maintain, seeking to outmatch their power over warfare. Whatever their standing at the time, the Menoetar grew in significance parallel to that of the Legio Cybernetica at large during the years of the Heresy, with some Taghmata even enforcing compulsory induction into the Cybernetica sub-cult for those Tech-Priests who held dominion over their battle-automata cohorts.

- Twin-linked irad-cleanser
* Any model in the unit may exchange their mauler bolt cannon for one of the following:
- Volkite culverin
- Multi-melta

Menoetar Cyber-corpus:
Lumbering armoured exoskeletons, Menoetar Cyber-corpora are constructed by the tech-priests of the Legio Cybernetica to grant them sufficient destructive and defensive capabilities to accompany their automata charges into the most hazardous of warzones, so they might experience but a fragment of the Omnissiah’s power.
A model equipped with a Menoetar Cyber-corpus has a 3+ armour save and a 5+ invulnerable save. Additionally, the model has the Extremely Bulky, Lumbering Advance and Feel no Pain (6+) special rules and replaces it’s Strength, Toughness and Wounds characteristics with the following: S: 5, T: 6, W: 3 (increases already included in profile).
Covenant Cybertheurgy:
Every model in the unit has the cybertheurgy special rule - however, only one model in the unit may use a cybertheurgy power each turn, but for each additional model in the unit the model attempting to use a power gains a +1 modifier to their Leadership value for the purpose of determining whether the power takes effect.
Bonded Tech-Priests:
An army may not contain more Menoetar Battle-Covenant units than it has units with the Cybernetica Cortex special rule.

30k TAGHMATA OMNISSIAH: THE PREFECTURE MAGISTERIUM

ELITE: INTERFECTOR DEATH-CLAVE:
The Interfector Death-Claves of the Prefecture Magisterium are the shadowed hand of the Archmagos Intendant, utilised to expunge internal threats to the dogma of their particular Forge World, as well as to liquidate the proponents of techno-heresy before it can spread, whether they lie under the jurisdiction of the Archmagos or represent an extraneous threat. Irrevocably tied to the particular structure and doctrine of their Forge World, such Death-Claves have often evolved their own shadowed and morose identity, with the most notorious undoubtedly being the Cydonian Sisterhood of Mars.
Whatever their given title and practices, and Interfector Scourge is a singularly lethal assassin, almost entirely rebuilt in a deadly parody of their organic form, sinuous and elegant, armed to overcome the defences of any Magos who should decry the will of the Omnissiah.

FAST ATTACK: IDOLUM CLASS BATTLE-AUTOMATA MANIPLE:
Throughout the darkness of Old Night, the Idolum were held under the exclusive purview of the Prefecture Magisterium, built as counterpart to the Vorax upon the shared schematic of the venerated Crusader template. Unleashed in times of the direst doctrinal crises, where the most powerful machines of the Mechanicum had been corrupted against their sacred purpose, Maniples of Idolum Battle-automata would bring ruin to the heretek engines of any Magos who overstepped the sacred tenets of the Omnissiah.
With Unification, the Idolum were given fresh purpose, produced in greater numbers and ceded by the Malagra Magos-warlords of the Magisterium to the Taghmata fleets of the Great Crusade, to purge the Galaxy of the blasphemous machines of Xenos civilisations and errant human conclaves alike. Upon the battlegrounds of the Heresy, the weapons of the sinister Idolum were once again turned against the constructs of the Mechanicum itself, fierce machine-animas uncaring of anything but the will to hunt.

Special Option:
* A single Maniple composed solely of a single Battle-automata (of any type) in the detachment may be given:
- The Paragon of Metal special rule
Corposant Shock-Lance:
A modification on the esoteric corposant stave performed in emulation of the shock lances borne by the mighty Cerastus Knights, corposant shock-lances strike with terrifying speed, unleashing surges of energy which burn out circuits and haemorrhage neural tissue.
Corposant Shock-Lance: Range: - Str: As User AP: 2 Type: Melee, Concussive, Swift Strike, Haywire
Energy Shroud:
A potent side-effect of the powerful energy capacitors required by their twin corposant shock-lances, Idolum Class Battle-automata are cloaked by a crackling haze of electromagnetic radiation, which serves to confuse targeting systems and sensors, confounding the defences of their prey just as they move to strike. Idolum Class Battle-automata gain the Shrouded special rule and count as being equipped with defensive grenades.
TROOPS: VENATORII SANCTORIS COVENANT:
The standing militia of the Prefecture Magisterium, the Sanctoris are an auxiliary force which can be assembled by the Magisterium Cohorts of any Forge World in times of doctrinal crises. Drawn from amongst the ranks of the Mechanicum’s priesthood, any ordained member of the clergy may submit themselves for induction into the ranks of the Sanctoris, from the lowliest Lexmechanic to the highest Magi. Far from the disordered and poorly-equipped militia reserves maintained by many worlds in the wake of the Great Crusade’s front, heeding the call of the Prefecture Magisterium requires submission to total cybernetic reconstruction and neural programming, turning any Venatorii Sanctoris into a relentless warrior utterly devoted to the three tenets of castigation laid down by the Prefecture Magisterium: eradication of the flesh, sundering of the machine and termination of the animus.
Every Taghmata fleet of significant size deployed during the Great Crusade maintained a detachment drawn from the forces of the Prefecture Magisterium, usually accompanied by a number of Sanctoris Covenants, which often fluctuated in size as hosts of Tech Priests from across the fleet submitted themselves to the Venatorii as non-compliant worlds were encountered which presented a particular blasphemy against the Omnissiah.

Castigation Arsenal:
The driving principals enacted by the Venatorii Sanctoris in battle are rooted in the ‘tenets of castigation’ dictated by the Malagra Magos-warlords of the Prefecture Magisterium, principals which extend even to their weapons of war, for each Sanctor carries a colossal ammunition silo upon their back, containing a trinity of munitions selectively capable of sundering flesh, steel or the very mind of their target. Bit out of the blue, but I had a hankering to design some Black Templar stuff, so here's the rough stages of the first couple of sketches, showing Sword Brethren Terminators & a Chapter-specific Contemptor Dread variant. Still need to do the finishing stages & re-format digitally, as well as do the final Templar design (which will be a reincarnation of the Codex: Armageddon mixed Initiate & Neophyte Bike squads), but thought you folks might like a look at my attempt to capture the Templars' aesthetic:

Don't forget to post your ideas for the Imperial Guard regiments here as well. By the way, didn't you also do some Beastmen stuff?

Yeah, I'm waiting until I've done the Armageddon Hive Militia & Ork Hunters before I port that stuff over. I did do some Khorngor concepts, but I'm not super happy with them, so I might re-do them - I'm still a fan of the idea, so I might just do a Pestigor / Slangor / Khorngor truimvirate

OOuuh interesting, need to sub! :happy.:

Thanks - while I've done a plethora of stuff for the Heresy, I'm looking forward to branching out a bit more

The Black Templars units are done, hope you like them:

HQ: Black Templars Relic Contemptor-Mactum Dreadnought

Perhaps the most treasured war-relics counted among the ancient armouries of the Black Templars, the origins of the Contemptor-Mactum Dreadnoughts are the origins of the Chapter itself, born amidst the bloody aftermath of the Siege of Terra and tumult of the age to come. Having suffered grievously in the defence of the Throneworld, Sigismund of the Imperial Fists Legion ordered a score of Dreadnoughts constructed to house the greatest warriors among the Templar Brethren who had fallen defending Terra, gilded constructs built as much as walking memorials to the Legion’s darkest days as inviolate avatars of the Templars’ warrior spirit.

An act of reverence not only to the Emperor’s Champion himself, but also the Legio Custodes who stood back to back with the Imperial Fists as they threw back the Traitors’ assault on Terra, each Contemptor-Mactum Dreadnought bears a colossal Blade of Mourning into battle, resembling both the mighty Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnoughts of the Custodes and the Black Sword of Sigismund, with each said to contain a core of pure auramite otherwise exclusively found among the arsenal of the Custodians. By the verge of the 42nd Millenium, there are rumoured to be only a trio of surviving Contemptor-Mactum Dreadnoughts, each counted among the armouries of the Black Templars. How many are occupied is unknown, but only figures of near myth among the Chapter have ever been carried by these Dreadnoughts into battle, with Black Templars Techmarines preferring to leave their ancient sarcophagi empty than intern within them a warrior who’s strength of will may not be capable of overcoming the fierce Machine Spirit slumbering within each of these venerated relics.

ELITE: Black Templars Sword Brethren Terminator Squad

Honoured warriors who have endured decades of warfare in service of the Eternal Crusade, the Sword Brethren are oathsworn veterans inducted into the personal Household of a Marshal of the Black Templars Chapter, raised above their brothers to a position of great regard and weighty duty. Primarily armoured in Terminator plate, the Sword Brethren face their foe where their strength is greatest, where battle is thickest and all that remains is glory or death, for they are required to be the mightiest warriors of their Chapter, the greatest hope and last resort of any Black Templars Crusade.

While functionally equivalent to the similarly equipped First Company of Codex-compliant Space Marine Chapters, Sword Brethren Terminators fight together in groups formed through familial unity instead of strictly regimented squads, and are always equipped to be at their most potent in the midst of melee combat, heralded by the thrum of active power fields and the bark of storm bolters.

FAST ATTACK: Black Templars Crusader Bike Squad

Rather than fighting exclusively as assault infantry, the mixed Initiate and Neophyte Crusader squads of the Black Templars Chapter also take to the field mounted upon powerful Space Marine Bikes. While other Chapters deploy their bike squads as scouting or skirmish units, the warriors of the Black Templars elevate melee combat above all other disciplines, and their Crusader Bike Squads are no different, using their powerful mounts to close with the enemy as quickly as possible, before cutting them down with chainsword and combat blade alike.

Not only does this train the Chapter’s Neophytes in the art of precise and swift swordsmanship, but it also serves to determine which among their number prove the most viable candidates to serve as the Chapter’s next generation of pilots and vehicle crew, with the most skilled riders often immediately inducted into a given Crusade’s armoury once they ascend to the rank of Initiate.
