Not sure how I feel about all these new sicaran variants that are in the works, seems like the weapon on the turret is a bit too big like with the plasma sicaran variant, or with this one it just looks off. I'll wait until we see some painted ones alongside other models to make a final judgement. Eagerly looking forward to the rules though.

*runs to IHF's design thread*

Me: "Master IHF! News from Forge World! They've just announced a new Sicarian variant called the Arcus that features a Whirlwind Scorpius Launcher instead of Accelerator Autocannons!"

Iron hand fanatic... a mechanicum adept that enjoys melding technologies and relics of the dark ages for the enjoyment of the emperor/warmaster

I'm personally stoked for the punisher cannon turreted one for my blood angels... going to throw assault cannon sponsons and the hull mounted asscan on there as well and but that many dice for my bag:)

Plus up to 12 Heavy Bolter shots too... Madness.

... and a pintle assault cannon

.....9 HB and 4 AC shots...!

HOW COULD I FORGET?!

God imagine if HF were a sponson option, we'd have a new logical extreme of DAKKA.

Nice tank! I like the idea of putting Orth in there.

However, I can't really see where this tank fits into an AoD list, the penalty for gaining rending for a turn is limiting. The equivilent of 30 heavy bolter shots just isn't doing it for me even with Orths Bs increase, which is a shame because I really like the model.

Brothers, convince me I'm wrong about its damage output!

You're not wrong. Orth is maybe a trap, too, because you get tank hunter on S5 base. Even with rending you can only glance AV14. So you're spending near the cost of a Leviathan to shred... lighter vehicles? BS5 is great on all those shots, though. This tank would benefit immensely from the AP modifier system ported to 30k, but alas.

Too bad Dark Angels can't run acid rounds on the heavy bolters of one of these. Iron Warriors can get Shrapnel bolts though, and between the Punisher cannon and all the HBs it might actually be the best way in the game yet to force pinning with those weapons.

  • 3 weeks later...

So, the Arcus was up for pre-order Friday. What are your thoughts about this in a legion list? You seem to be paying a lot if you want to explore its versitility fully.

I'm thinking stock warheads, sky spear warheads, lascannons. Would you choose the Arcus over a standard sicaran for Orth?

The only thing that has stopped me from buying it immediately is a pedantic one on my part. I was expecting it to be more in line with the Scorpius, and to have barrage weapons - something that really appealed to the Ironfire Iton Warriors force im currently building up (more blast templates for the win!). Still a great model though.
