Mechanicus Bunker / Bastion

Recommended Posts

1100101 fellow Tech Priests !

I had a closer look at some of the buildings that are available for our army, and I think that the Bunker as well as the Bastion could work very very well with some Destroyers inside. The can not be tied up, they are pretty good protected and (at least with the bastion) they stand on higher ground to draw good LOS accross the field of battle. Downside is every single 1 rolled after destroying the building will hurt a lot.

However, I dont like the idea of putting my Marsian Red Army into camo green buldings with a lot of imperial symbols that are not related to the Omnissiah, so here my question:

What would be easiest to get some Ad Mech looking buildings?

- Buy the original one, grind down the symbols I dont want and replace them with something else? If yes, what to replace them with? Is Etched Brass something to use in this case? Are there Etched Brass Cogs somewhere to buy?

- Build something from scratch? If yes, are there some kind of instructions or at least pictures I can use as orientation? In the end I think the building should have approximatley the same size as the originals from GW.

I am neither experienced with scratch building terrain nor with removing symbols that big (like the big skull at the front of the bunker).

Also, out of pure interrest, do followers of the Omnissiah use other symbols like the Imperial Eagle as well as their own stuff?

Thanks in advance for your help, I am realy looking forward to get some help or maybe some pictures as inspiration.

It's all imperial and for what its worth there is usually enough skulls and mechanicus symbols to be of use.

Easiest thing is use a creative colour scheme that matches your guys or just looks a little less "camo".

My Aegis line for example is black with bronze/ gold trim and red sections and leadbelcher metal - painted originally to match my marines, but it certainly looks a bit martian! Can't post a pic because Photobucket is being a douche.

I'm pretty sure there are some mechanicum etched brass? If not Iron Hands could suffice, along with the Mechanicum transfers.

You could probably also build some cool stuff with the Shadow War terrain, but would require a good deal of conversion and need to be the same size as the bunkers for rules purposes.

I think a combination of the existing Imperial buildings (which are STC based and therefore consecrated by the Mechanicus) with some of the Shadow War terrain is your best bet, if you don't want to spend hours building from scratch.  Just some mixing and matching between the Imperial Bastion or Bunker kits and some of the Shadow War Manufactorum kits would probably get what you're looking for.

Mechanicus decals can help, put cogs around small skulls, paint skulls in halved colours, Aquila's can be halved too.

The Aquila with two heads was adopted to represent the Terra/Mars alliance of the treaty of Olympus Mons aka the treaty of Mars, and later when the Mechanicum became an Adeptus and each bit of the Aquila represented a different Adeptus one of the wings was the Mechanicus (hence one of the 1st ed techpriests has a wing emblem on a staff, another has an Aquila headed power axe).

Another good source is the mechanicus emblems from the Knight Warden sprue. Bits sellers carry them and imperial aligned knight army players will have spares.

to add to this list, i had bought a couple of the GW Manufactorum building sets and i cut the cog skull symbol off of a couple of the doors that i wanted to use as ruined ones(that worked out well :biggrin.: ) and that is a decent sized cog and skull symbol with a bit more pizzazz :cool.:

I don't have them on hand but I'd estimate the Furnace is a bit smaller. Its definitely not the economical option but I think it looks cool. Build up some extra armour near the bottom and fit a gun emplacement ring on the top and it'd be pretty cool.

Maybe combine a few kits of Bastions and the Furnace to come up with some mixed items.

Or if you're going more ramshackle -- take some manufactorum cargo containers and make the 40k equivalent of this -- warning has some loud annoying music :

Tha cannon is an original one. I bought the last one aviable at my local GW. At home i noticed that one part of the turret was missing. So i brought him back and it ended up in the store´s bitzbox. A year later i helped the store manager to build the new test gaming table. As a thank you he gave me the cannon and allowed me to loot the store´s bitzbox.

My Obliterator is mostly build from plasticard. Many tubes and cables are greenstuff.

Some bitz are from the bastion. The instrument panels are from rhinos. Some are from Imperial Knights, Ravenwing Command Squad, Stormraven grabbing hook for the dreadnought and from the new mechanicus buildings and for the turret two skulls from the Haemotrope Reactor.

And some updated pics.

A friend laser cut me the giant cog. The small hand wheels are from a store for RC ship modelling.
