GrandMagnus
I have a question regarding the start collecting boxes, like the space marine and the orks. What points are they averaged at and are they balanced? Or is it more random? Would you say two of the boxes would be balanced against eachother? Also, is it just me or does the eldar box look really weak?
Joe
The Eldar box was insanely... strong, I think?
Frater Cornelius
The boxes are more based on style rather than balance. Marines are decent, Eldar is meh, I have no idea if Orks even have a SC box. The two main factors to look out of (other than looks and style that suit you) is the savings and usefulness of units. Marines do not save a lot. You pretty much receive a free Captain and that is it. However, the Marine units are very useful and thus I recommend this box. No idea which SC stacks up well against it though. Eldar content in definitely weaker. Tau used to be stronger in 7th but now seems en par, however it is far more expensive point-wise (best saving though). Other Marine factions are about the same level. Chaos is en par with Marines as well, I believe. In the end, there aren't any tremendous power swings between the different SC boxes. However, they may vary in points. There is no other recommendation I can give other than to pick what's appealing and mind the savings.
GrandMagnus
OK, that's a good enough answer, thank you for your time. FYI: Orks do have a SC box, 10 ork boyz, 1 mad-dok, 5 nobz and an ork dread.

Interrogator-Chaplain Ezra
you do not want the ork starter box. I think what you mean is "you want to avoid the ork starter box." For all you know, he'd have the time of his life with it.
Tyberos the Red Wake
you do not want the ork starter box. Really, that bad? Why? Just by taking a look at it, I'm going to assume because 1) it's way too small (only 5 Nobz and 11 Boyz), and 2) if you collected multiple of them, it wouldn't make a good build (bunch of Deff Dreadz and Painboyz). If it were something like 1 Warboss, 20 Boyz, 1 Trukk or something it'd probably be better. Or maybe not, I don't know how to play Orkz in 8E, but you get the point. the jeske 1 Back to top
BadgersinHills
The Eldar box was insanely... strong, I think? That was back in the days of 7th ed scatterlaser spam, now it's been toned down.

My point about the eldar was there aren't H-points in it. 3 eldar on bikes and a tank. Easy to shoot down i'd say.

the jeske
among others. for orcs you want a lot of dudes, better spend cash on buying 3-4 boxs of them and then buy a box of nobs. For eldar you want as many serpents as possible [again that is if your starting and do not want to dip your toes in FW] again. then flyers, because each of the eldar one is bonkers. A started box can be a good starter, if the "free" model your getting is joined by stuff you would actualy want. Dread, tac squads ? all things you will use in later games. Ad mecha starter set? spicy, even if the doubled HQ is meh. But something like lets say the tau one, makes it more viable to start with normal boxs.
