Renegades and Heretics (and heretic-Heretics) Painting Bonanza

Welcome to the first R&H collective painting event. We're doing this to have some fun, get some inspiration, and show off some great little plastic (or metal or resin) Heretics. Participants will be able to vow to paint part of their collection, ranging from a single cultist to an entire army, and we'll see how much we as a subforum can accomplish.

The Rules:

Anyone is welcome to participate within the guidelines of the festivities.

The event will start immediately, and run until the end of August.

Anyone is free to vow as much or as little as they would like, but please finish one vow before starting on another. Try to not vow more than you can handle.

Any models fall into one of three categories:

1. Entries in the Renegades and Heretics army list from Forgeworld's Imperial Armour Index.

2. Entries from the Astra Militarum army list from Index: Imperium 2.

3. Other Entries with the Faction Keyword "Chaos". These entries may only make up a total of half of your vows in total. So two squads of Cultists and a Squad of Fallen is ok, Three Squads of Renegade Astartes solo is not ok for this event (unless you have three units to balance them).

The Vow:

Simply post the following to make your vow of painting. Failure in your vows will be looked on harshly by the Warmaster, and being turned into spawn is the best you can hope for.

"I, [name], vow to supply the Warmaster with [units or models here] totaling [total points]. May we bring death to the False Emperor."

I will keep track of the vows periodically here :)

Kinstryfe- 10 Marauders with Meltas and Shotguns, 2x 6 Marauders with Flamers 194pts

4 Lascannon and 3 Autocannon Teams 146pts

3 Malefic Lords and 3 Enforcers 183pts

Greenz- 10 Guardsmen with Heavy bolter, Flamer, and Bolter 56pts

Lorgar17- 2 renegade enforcers, 2x 5 Marauders with a plasma gun, meltagun, flamer, grenade launcher and shotgun, a disciple heavy weapon team with a missile launcher, and a land raider with a combi-bolter 550pts

Hydra with heavy flamer/heavy bolter (magnetised), totalling 132pts

Akrim- 30 Mutants with shotguns and 2 Medusa Siege Guns 120+???pts

Azekai- 2 Nurgle Enforcers with Plasma Pistols 70pts

I, lorgar17, vow to supply the Warmaster with 2 renegade enforcers, 2 5 man squads of marauders with a plasma gun, meltagun, flamer, grenade launcher and shotgun, as well as a disciple heavy weapon team with a missile launcher, and a land raider with a combi-bolter, totalling 550 points. May we bring death to the False Emperor!

Since you can't legally field a single disciple weapon team in a game, is this vow legal within the competition rules? If not, then I'll change it.

RE: single models

Yes, very in the spirit of what I envisioned. I want people to be able to even paint just a single cultist if they want, because I'd love to see some people wander over and decide to paint the odd one off nodel. The only real limit I think was needed was a limit on non-guard stuff to half the vows.

I look forward to seeing some stuff :) On that note, anyone know a good image hosting app since now Photobucket is being greedy?

Hey its Renegades whatever floats your boat. Maybe if it had a mean looking bayonet on it to give it a reason to be on a pole.

I almost thought Bloodreavers would make good stand in Orgyn Brutes, they look big enough.

Kinstryfe, that's a sweet concept with the las-pole, it reminds me of the laslocks from "Traitor General". I might have to shamelessly borrow that idea for a future bolter/ chainsword sergeant.

But I agree with Akrim, it's missing a blade or something. Maybe on the opposite end to balance it out? And maybe trim off the sight and rails to make it a little more streamline and less bulky

I'm still trying to figure out how to get a /good/ shot of these guys, but for the time being

I plan on doing all the bases for what I paint together, or possibly casting up some, so they'll remain bare until everything is painted. In the meanwhile I'm going to try to figure out how to take decent pics...

Edit: For my second vow I'm going to paint up a mess of heavy weapon teams I have sitting around undercoated. It'll start with 4 lascannons and 3 auto cannons for 146pts

I love pig iron. I'm still trying to find a USA based supplier because I probably need about another 50-80 heads and all I have left are the Commissar-type hat sprues. Worst comes to worst, I can always say those models are some kind of special cold initiates or something. Then again I already have 24 squads worth of Militia in varying stages of paint, so I don't really NEED more...

I like that red armor, Kinstryfe!

I am pledging some heretic enforcers:

Covenant of Nurgle, just in case you can't tell. I whipped 'em up using poxwalkers, chopped up chaos knights, and space marine weapons. Will probably start painting these next week, since I am still finishing up stuff for the Legion War.

Three Enforcers/Priests of Khorne

Three Malefic Lords. They all have collars so they're more like pet psykers

Sweet enforcers Azekai! Can't wait to see them painted up

Looking good there Kinstryfe! That's a neat touch using the flamer shrouds on the command squad. Can we get a pic of their backs?

Sure thing. It was a very very easy conversion. Cut off the antennas and put the flamer piece in its place. It even more or less lines up with the existing piping. The only downside is I'm planning on 2 more units as disciples, but I can't find a source to buy the bits in bulk and I'm almost out of the parts.

Thanks for the kind words, gang.

Kinstryfe, I like all of it, but the command squad is my favorite. The repurposed smokestacks are great, as is the alas-poor-Yorick trooper. Inspiring stuff.

I need malific lords of my own but I already used a lot of flagellant bits for my mutants... perhaps electro priests would make a good base, not sure. I really want them to look right on the verge of possession, so I sprinkling in plaugebearer parts is a possibility. I might instead use non-gw translucent plastic, like the Horrorclix Skeletal Maidens, to represent generic but eye-catching warp entities coalescing around the tormented witches.
