what are peoples thoughts on the Fireraptor

Recommended Posts

The rules are very good, but it costs a lot of points. It has 24 HB shots, 10 Twin Avenger Bolt Canon shots and 4 Hellstrike missiles for 418 points. For a few points less you can replace the HB's for Twin Autocannons (addressed in the FAQ) for less shots, but more damage capabilty on higher toughness. For a few points more you can have the two twin lascannons in stead of the Hellstrike batteries. Same amount of shots, but higher strength and better AP, for higher damage potential but random. Sadly, the model doesn't  come with the option to model them. Also, PotMS for no to hit penalty.

Sadly, the tales of it being absolutely terrible to build are correct. I suggest getting some clamps, elastic bands, a blow-dryer, hot water, patience and perseverance. Also, don't be stupid like I was and magnetize the WINGS, and not the engines, if you plan on doing so for transportation purposes. Those engines are solid resin and heavy. Just pin and glue those, and magnetize the wings to the engines. Less room for the magnets, but they can be thinner, which is great.

Wait, it comes with that much extra free hobby? Now I simply need one :)

Last edition taking the QHB over the Autocannons wasn't even a question. I guess in 8th they've become a viable choice?

I'm still a bit on the fence about the HB's or the Autocannons. Both have their merrits. QHB's is just sheer weight of fire, where Autocannon's are bigger punch and more damage, increasing the odds of wounding T5 and higher and doing more damage in the process due to D2. The amount of shots just adds more versatility I think, since you can raze chaff quickly, fire the TABC against elites, and the missiles or Lascannons against vehicles. I'm no math wizzard, so this is mere speculation.

Not much to add really, but +1 for it being a flying ball of dakka and death. And +1000 for "OH GOD THE HORROR" when it comes to building it.

On a scale of "single piece marine" to "old Thunderhawk" on the rage scale, it has to weigh in at least near the "Warhound foot" level for me.

I think it's a lovely model once done though!

As stated, it's an incredibly wonky piece of kit. If it's your first resin kit, you're going to have a bad time. And even if it isn't, there will be gaps that need filling BADLY. It's just the way it's cast and the combination of resin and plastic.
