Because of Lightning Strike the Terminators gain outflank if they don't have a transport so that was the plan.

I took the destroyers for fun + rad grenades with glaives looks crazy on paper. I'm going to chuck the biker praetor with them and outflank.

Rad grenades in a unit that only has 2 models with power glaives doesn't sound crazy, it sounds mediocre. I mean if you want to run destroyers go for it, but in a competitive list they have absolutely no place.

That many outflanking terminators seems like an odd choice, but it's not terrible I suppose. Since you have the combi plasmas you should usually have a good target on the turn you show up. That being said after they use up their plasmas, they might be stuck with a lack of targets to charge as your opponent is sure to avoid those terminators, and they aren't exactly fast. For an outflanking heavy list, I think you would do a lot better with outriders, marksmen vets and seekers-all strong shooting units when you throw in some combi/special weapons, that don't have to rely on getting into combat for their full effect. I'd consider dropping one terminator squad plus the destroyers, stick the preator with the terminators and then you have a lot of leftover pts for 2 good outflanking units.

Asvaldir - Good point man, I was thinking the Terminators main role would be eating Spartans and Lord of Wars with their chainfists, slow movement is definitely an issue  - the Plasma's are going to be used in conjunction with Cyber Hawk to tear up any 2+ or Primarch units. I originally filled it out with a bunch of plasma outriders but they are super expensive for a single 3+ wound.

You're right about the Destroyers, I've been dying to test out Rad grenades though. They are just disgustingly overpriced... I feel like it might pay off though if I get them into a multi assault along side a big group of Levy Militia.

You've got me thinking, might re-consider a few things.

Cheers

If you want rad nades you should try Praetor with bike Command squad+Forge Lord with rad grenades. Equip the Command squad with power axes and combat shields and go hunting. Should work pretty well. Stick in an Apothecary with bike and you got a highly mobile and somewhat survivable deathstar.

Also just a small thing, I'd grab digital lasers for your Praetor.

I've put together a little HQ deathstar unit - tried it with the rad nades but it was just way too expensive nearly 650pts... Apothecaries can't get bikes too.

Here is an updated version of the list, it's completely re-worked for maximum mobility- Added Outriders and got rid of the terminators. Added a new dreadnought focus. The plan is to swarm my 30 man levy squads around my Mortis so they are immune to any charges or melta, this will allow them to watch the skies and snipe vehicles. Let me know what you think.

My game plan is to Deep Strike the jet bikes and Outflank all the standard bikes to gain board control.

Yeah, Apothecaries can take Bikes! They just can't have Bikes AND artificer armour. They're well worth grabbing if you want a Bike Deathstar. And White Scars do Bike Deathstars really well! :)

There is a few things you have in your latest list that aren't legal though:

- Command Squads cannot take power glaives - Characters only. They only count as Characters when it comes to Challenges.

- It looks like you're going to use the Cyber-hawk for the Outriders? Unfortunately it can't be done, as the Cyber-hawk's re-rolls are for Infantry only.

- Dreadnought Drop Pods are 100 points - you must have the old rules.

- your Fire Raptors must pay for 2 Reaper autocannon batteries - look at the new 40k rules for comparison. It's only 10 extra points for another 4 TL S7 AP4 shots though! I would advise taking Hellstrike missiles too.

I'm not sure the Militia add a whole lot to your force in their current form. "Chogorian Brotherhood" actually allows for Fortifications, so you could run a Loyalist version of "Sacrificial Offering". If you took Alchem-jackers (to stop them running away), their Troops would be relatively good at holding Objectives (if you take Abhuman Helots, it means they won't score, so you should keep that in mind). You could also grab a Heavy Ordnance Battery with Medusa breacher shells and watch the incredible damage they do! Then put them all under a Void Shield Generator with the White Scars long-range units. :)

Gentlemen, brilliant suggestions much appreciated.

Does someone mind sending me the apothecary point cost for a bike? I'm guessing it's 20pts. Thanks for the cyber hawk clarification I'll remove it. Really like the ideas regarding the militia + fortifications. I'm tossing up removing the command squad it's a touch pricey, apothecary's in the outriders might work though

I think this is my final lads, unfortunately I couldn't justify the Command Squad, i love the idea but for 250 they aren't doing enough - will likely chuck the praetor on an Outrider Squad and see how things pan out. I'm going with the fortification for long ranged protection and Alchem idea to bog down those objectives. Bikes and fliers will deal with everything else with a bit of help from the Sciaran's. Oh and of course I'll drop that angry Cortus bastard straight into the thick of it from get go. Cheers for all the ideas.

  • 2 weeks later...

I couldn't help but revisit this list, I've thrown around some further changes to make it as unique as possible. It isn't perfectly fluffy for Scars and it isn't purely competitive but it's looking interesting, tough and fun to play. I use the older books too so feel free to point out if there are any issues.

The plan is to escort the Knight with the Venators on either side - I want this to act as a spearhead, both hard hitting and attention drawing.

The Sky Shield will have the Rapiers and Deredeo on top for artillery - I'll surround the pad with Militia to deter enemy deep strikes.

The fliers will hunt high AV and other fliers.

Attack Bikes, Drop-dread and terminators will harass the opposition's back board.

Jet Bikes (and later the Militia) will hunt Objectives.
