Last of the Serrated Sun [2500]

Hi All!  I'm just looking for a little advice and some opinions on list building.  I'm starting to contemplate my army for LVO (Las Vegas Open) which has turned into a pretty large 30k event.  I'm really considering building and taking my Word Bearers.  I've come up with the list below.

I recognize that this list has a couple problems.
1) Even number of drop pods.
2) 1 scoring unit!

Any thoughts or ideas would be most welcome.

Overall I think this list is incredibly flimsy. You basically only have 3 infantry units, 1 ground vehicle and very few pods for a deep strike oriented list. In addition, I think the blade slaves plus zardu isn't a great escort for Logar. Just too small and flimsy, they can be shot down fairly easily then logar is all on his own. I think you need to drop the blade slaves, logar and maybe a gal vorbak unit so you have more scoring and more room for infantry units in pods. Also plenty of room for more heavy support to back up the deredeo.

Also smaller thing, why combi flamers on the vets? Seems like a nonsensical cjoxir considering you made them machine killers. With a full unit of combi melta they'd have a shot at wiping out a Knight when they drop in, but with only 2 melta they won't do much.

First of all we must estabilish a few things to understand if it is worth mustering The Last of Serrated Sun Rite of War.

1. Q: Why take it? A: You want to play 2+ Gal Vorbak units, use drop pods and tanks and non-poded dreads.

2. Estabilish the core of rooster. Delegatus or Praetor (or Special Character) and Chaplain or Centurion, 2 Units of Gal Vorbak preferably in Dreadclaws and something to start on board like Quad Mortars or Heavy Support vehicles. Oh, and the scoring units - the best you have avaiable are Veterans, Terminators and Support Squads. This doesn't leave many options for flexibility.

3. Mix and Match units for max efficency. Some anti-tank, some anti-personel, some scoring units. Everything with a purpose. If you overspend in one direction, you will have serious problems with some lists. Like all AV 14 wall (LR Proteus spam).

My advice? Drop the primarch and spend those points on scoring and anti-tank. A tri-las proteus with augury web is also good thanks to +1 for reserves and a mild anti-tank capabilities. Las-Vindicators are also good.

Yep at 2.5K it's hard to fit 2 GV and a primarch, you don't have enough points on scoring units and firepower. I think it's possible to keep the primarch (but risky) but you should drop some stuff to get more scoring boots on the ground.

Maybe consider swaping Zardu and Slaves for a normal chap and a command squad. Drop one GC squad,  the anvillus on the GV (too short on points) for a std drop pod, the lighting to get some more quad mortar, a tac squad to sit on objectives and maybe if you have the points either a support squad or a vet squad to get an odd pod number.

By the way seekers can only be a viable alternative to veterans of you get some combi plas on the turn you land unleash the plas, remaining turn fire the ap 2 shells + they are scoring with WS 5 !

Thank you everyone for the responses.  I've taken everything people have said and come up with numerous different lists but none really to my satisfaction.  It's possible that Last of the Serrated Sun isn't the rite for me but I came up with the following based on your feed back.

I'm not likely to run out and buy a bunch of quad mortars or laser destroyers right now.  I've spent so much on 30k stuff sitting unbuilt which is mainly the reason for this exercise.  I want to build, paint, and play with the items I've already purchased over the years!

The updated list!

I still only have 3 scoring units but the army has a lot more threats that might cause my opponent to shoot at first.  Also includes the much loved Quad Mortars. :)

My initial thought is that Kairos should drop to a Lord of Charge so I can ramp up more pink horrors or steal the tactical squad rhinos to pay for more.  I would also consider giving Lorgar a Kharybdis to ensure he drops on turn one and it would save me the greatest pain in my life of building another storm eagle.  I'd need to lose the Venator though and what to replace that with I'm not sure.

You know last of the serrated sun can work at 2.5K but now LOW if you want to get your 2 GV and all the goodies ^^

Concerning you second list you seem a bit low on troops and you don't need to gather all the mortars in one squadron. better have 2 squadrons to get some more units and more spread for the shots.

I don't like to put Primarchs on flyers. It's not reliable enough for si much points invested. As you say, a Kharybdis or even a trusty Spartan flare shield can do this job. Try to find some points for dozer blades as well. Not sure investing on so small tac squad is worth it; they won't do much and they don't have any assault tanks to get them faster in mele.

For the daemons, if you really want to bring the cheese, get Be'lakor but you won't have any friends after this. Lorgar + Be'lakor is a nasty nasty combo !
