thewarriorhunter's PLOG - For The Greater Good Commission

Recommended Posts

Last bit of hobby progress for a while. I broke my right (dominant) arm yesterday so I think it will be some time before I can pick up a brush again.

I finished the white highlights on my three WIP models and base coated the blue on one. I think I'll be well enough to get my ETL LT done in time but I don't think I'll be able to pledge anything else :sad.:

  • 2 weeks later...

Picked up a brush today to see what I could do. I can't paint details but broad strokes are possible. I figured I'd try and paint up one of the camo cloaks I made a while back to see if my idea can work. Base coats are done. I'll wash the gray, finish up the tan, and then do a purple energy transition between the two.

And I'm [mostly] back! Woo boy does it feel good to paint. Got the blue base coated on my three models. They need highlights next but that will have to wait, the elbow can't take long painting sessions right now. I'm very excited to finish up the loose ends I have lying around because the new codex and RG supplement and/or custom CTs have me very excited.

More painting time in. The new codex has me excited and I want to get all of my loose ends wrapped up. I'm also wanting to finish my legio for some AT action (although I'm starting to regret that purchase with all of the cool marine toys that are coming down the line).

Base coats done, on to details and weapons:

Backpacks are on the Intercessors and a lot of details are done all around. Intercessor weapons need to be edge highlighted and they're done. All three need eyes done and each has a purity seal. I'm going to take my time one night to finish off the LT because he's got some lenses and trinkets on his model that I want to make sure I don't miss.

LT and Intercessor escort are done. I'm waiting for pictures because this week I should have something arrive that ups my photo game.

I did get my Libby's body assembled and base coats done.I need to start picking out details so while a lot of him is done, I think I still have more than half way to go. Also not sure what to do about his skin and eyes. I've thought about giving his eyes the purple glow like my helmeted marines. For skin I'm not sure if I should leave it gray like the RG or go for an actual skin tone. If I do go for skin I think it'll have to be darker to it doesn't blend in with the camo cloak.

Also painted up the underside and power lines that no one will ever see:

I was waiting to post this until I got my Macro Mats in but I don't know when those are showing up so....

ETL vow of a Phobos LT complete. I also painted up two intercessors to get my Kill Team up to a 5 man squad. This does give me two Sgt's now so I'll have to paint up another 5 regular intercessors to balance the forces.

Took a break from painting to work on bases. I made one for the Phobos Libby and also started on one for my Redemptor. I was originally planning to have them look clean and nice but the poses on some models mean I have to provide elevation changes for the feet. I'm going to start adding more battle damage to the bases so my HQs don't stick out like a sore thumb.

I finally got around to making the base for my Phobos Libby and it worked perfectly. He's all done now and ready to sneak up and smite.

Here's a shot of my base in different stages, I love seeing how it comes together from looking terrible to a finished, polished project:

Trying to update less so that my updates provide more meaningful progress. I'm getting pretty far on my Phobos Captain. I need to highlight a few things and get his base figured out. My original though was to have him standing on his Servo Skull but I'm not sure if I still want to do that.

Hey, I haven't been here for a while due to the ETL madness. Good to see you still chugging out marines.

How goes your Phobos Captain? For my own, I've decided to keep the original ruin-thing. Although I've also removed the servo-skull, I cannot imagine a superhuman giant standing on such a fragile-looking thing without crushing it. Have you thought about making a step or two for him? Adding another layer of your signature tiles should not be a big problem and would keep your theme.

Cheers!

Oh man, the basing here is amazing. Really adds so much to the models.

Thanks! I like to think my basing makes up for mediocre painting. I also think a base is like a frame for the model and I love seeing well done bases, I think it adds so much to the model and army.

Captain is done except for his base. I actually couldn't find the servo skull that I clipped off so I ended up adding a step (great minds think alike, amiright?). I primed it over the weekend. I need to paint that and the base for my redemptor as well as base coat the redemptor so I'm waiting for my next chance to break out the airbrush. It'll go a lot faster with less coats of paint that way.

Got the airbrush out tonight. I'm getting faster/better at base coating. Got the Redemptor and it's base base coated along with the base for my Phobos Captain. I was also able to get the grout and wash done. My plan is to get the Redemptor feet and legs done first so if a game happens I can proxy it in a try it out while I finish the body and arms.

And as a bonus my Redemptor base is done.

I really love how these bases are turning out, but the battle damage makes me think I need to start weathering my models. I'm nervous about doing that because I've never attempted weathering before so... gonna have to do some research and grab a test model I think... Any thoughts on how I should go about it?
