Tidewall rampart any good?...

Used 3 of the droneports yesterday. They can hold well.

I think the Droneport is the best one, as the Gunrig on fires at BS5+ and the Shieldline is T6, as also not returning any mortal wound if fired at by any AP-1 or better weapon.

With the Shieldline, does your opponent have the option to target your Firewarriors or can only target the defense line. The Shieldline has Building, Vehicle, and Transport keywords. It makes me think the troops are treated like passengers in an open-topped vehicle.

i have a question about shieldwalls.

Q. can the unit embarked on it be able to overwatch?

I understand it is open-topped and the unit can shoot in the shooting phase. But does this apply in the charge phase?

Pretty sure one of the FAQs state this..

Q. If I charge a transport that has the Open-topped ability, can units that are embarked inside also fire Overwatch at the charging unit?

A. No.

I agree that other units would be allowed to. But would it allow the embarked unit to fire? I mean it would be silly if they could not. That is the whole point of the tidewall. It is there to protect the warriors. But I do wonder about that with the T'au's extra wording that you mentioned Focslain.

Well the line of thinking is since the shieldwall is open topped then all models can fire out of it following all normal shooting rules. The shared overwatch is what allows the embarked unit to fire since they are well within 6". As stated before the FAQ is referring to if the passengers of an open-topped vehicle have an innate shared overwatch, which they don't.

The issue is that since they used their shared OW they can't fire OW again that phase. So they can lend fire if another charge nearby happens or if the wall is charged again.

This of course is nothing compared to the fact that since the shield wall is a fortification that you can shoot at units in combat with it. So if your lucky and it survives multiple fight phases you can lock up a unit with it. Same goes for all the Tau fortifications.

Holy cow this is amazing! Why are people not using these more in lists? And it moves so you can move it up to cover an objective. This is just silly. I love it!

At least in my area fortifications are not part of the normal list. Heck I only used them cause I had just painted them up. Might also be a factor that they are direct only unless you local FLGS has the huge tidewall set and that is $150ish to put down.

If I can get over my need for stealth suits I'd make them a regular in my list, general plan for two walls and a gunrig.

Hi folks,

Title says it all. Do people use them? Any success or better getting more bods on the ground?...

I've tried it a few times.

Shield line: disappointing, T6 is just not enough and the reflection does not work on anything with AP -1 or better. Surprisingly good against assault armies but IMO those are what infantry-heavy Tau armies are best against already so it does not change the outcome.

Droneport: Good way to bring BS 2+ marker drones to the table but quite fragile and a competent shooting opponent will just remove both the drones and the droneport any time they want.

Gunrig: decent against a lot of armies if you bring plenty of markerlights. Horribly bad against armies that impose BS -1 on our shooting and those are ones where we need an edge to get the win - so basically drags you down in games where you might be struggling already.

I had fun with them in the Konor campaign but I would never take any of them to a tournament.
