If it were me I would take the spike off the top.

The only reason I probably wouldn't go with the Sagittarum is it looks like he will have been accosted by a flock of seagulls :D

Eagle on the face, both pauldrons above his head, it could look overdone.

Saying that I reckon you would be able to pull it off.

The 3 jewels on each leg, you ever been tempted to do the top red, the middle amber and the bottom one green?

Haha oh Gods, that would be something, wouldn't it? I might just remove the spike, paint it up and see what it looks like. Worst comes, I've painted a head for my Sagittarum as my Custodes use the same gold as my Wolves and Fists (I like to carry certain colours across my allies to tie them in).

I'm knocking up a tester for an Alpha Legion marine as well today. I'm actually really tempted to go for a scheme similar to my Imperial Fists. But with slight differences:

Black Armour

Silver Trim

Sotek Green shoulder pads.

I dearly love the metallic scheme for them, but everytime I've tried to replicate it, it's been an absolute disaster that's ruined my minis.

I had considered Alphas, but wanted to do old-school purple with green highlights.

Closest I have seen so far is using something like  Vallejo's violet paint and adding a little sotek green to highlight.

I think the black with green will work well. Give them a stealthier feel.

Looking forward to seeing the helms on Dorn.

Did you use the same golds on the Thouand Sons also?

I was half-tempted to do an indigo scheme a la the old artwork/Legion, but I remember trying to paint purple-like colours a while back and I didn't enjoy it. I think done right it could look really effective.

Actually, I did not! I used Retributor Gold but I realised after that I didn't like it so much, it's too orangey/red and it kinda blended a bit too much into my scheme. I wish I had discovered the Scale Colour Necro Gold beforehand tbh!

Following yesterday’s post, here’s a WIP of me Siege Breaker/Praetor so far. The teal is rather bright, but the brown oil washes I use to weather/shade the mini will tone that down. Still waiting for Forge World to post my Transfer sheet so might be a while on that.

Lighting isn't great, either too sunny here or too dark. I also need to stop biting my nails, evidently.

Alpha Legion Praetor/Consul-Siege Breaker all done, basing aside (still at a loss what to do for it, probably grey I suspect).

Really pleased with the alternate scheme, I’ll probably add a bit more teal to regular marines to set off the black. Next up, a squad of Cataphractii Terminators with the lovely sculpted AL pads.

Plodding through with my Alphas. Armillus Dynat is all done now, lovely mini. Very much looking forward to Alpharius. Next up, back to the 5 Cataphractii bodyguards for my Siege Breaker. Gonna try out those lovely Space Wolves shield upgrades later as well.

Dude I won't lie, I'm really not a fan of the alpha's scheme. I think it's just because they look like they're just a copy of the fists but with blue instead of yellow but that's irrelevant. I have a recipe that worked perfectly for metallic t-sons and with a little tweaking, should work just as well for Alpha legion. first step is to paint the mini gold (use silver for alphas) then highlight and all that jazz, weather if you're brave. and start applying layers of spiritstone red (the gw gemstone paint) mixed with carroburg crimson (use asurman blue and soulstone blue technical and maybe mix in a little waystone green for that tint) slowly adding more and more thin layers, and after you've achieved the desired candy look, throw on either 'ardcoat or lahmian medium to either amplify or tone down the gloss

Thanks for your comment, chap. However, I don’t particularly like painting metallic schemes, and whilst that may be easy to replicate via hand, to do anything bigger than a terminator would realistically need an airbrush and I have zero intentions of using one.

Regardless, I’m really happy with the matte scheme and I'm much more comfortable painting it as such. Also, the reasoning for the similar scheme is that the two armies will be allied with each other, and for fluff reasons will be using a mainly black scheme to sorta tie them together.

Quick and dirty tester for some EC. I’ve always struggled with purple so I’m not entirely sure what to think. Went for a mix of Vallejo Royal Purple and GW Genestealer Purple with an oil wash to finish.
