What will a DA Battle Company look like?

It was always very clear that a Battle Company was organized as 6 Tactical, 2 Assault & 2 Dev. Now with the example given in Codex Space Marines, a Battle Company is maybe 5 Tacs 2 Intercessors, 1 Assault, 1/2 Inceptor, 1 Devastator, 1 Hellblaster and whatever else you feel like (up to 20+ squads?!

Pretty much fluff. However, in terms about how a unit is organized usually determines what options the designer of the doctrine believe that the unit is supposed to be capable of in combat.

For example, now our Company Veterans are only 5-man Squads, which goes back to the idea of them being a small, heavily-armed target strike force/objective holder. Weapons load-outs are also based on what the force is expected to do. There is considerable flexibility, but certain things the force can't do, such as Jump Pack assault Marines with Lascannons to establish a base of fire deep behind enemy lines. Just can't do it

For me it will be:

Captain and the command section will be replaced by the characters that replace the old codex entry

Gives you Captain, Ancient, Apothecary.  In Addition you have 3 further guys left that ill use for

2 lieutenants and one more Apothecary if points allow

Chaplain

After that: 6 Troops (former Tacticals) now free mix of Tacticals and Intercessors in my case 4x 10 man Tactical Squads 2x 10 man Intercessors

2 Fast Attack:   (former Assault Squad) now mix of Assault and Inceptor Squads in my case 4x5 Inceptors

2 Heavy Support: (former Devastator Squads) now Hellblasters and or Devastators in my case 2x 5 Devastators 1x 10 Hellblasters

If you look at 2nd company in new Codex: SM, companies now can be up to 20 squads. 10 core squads -- a mix of anything and 10 additional squads taken from reserve companies of any flavor. So you still can have basic marines only, or any possible mix of old astates and primaris squads.

Interesting thing -- 2nd company has non-primaris lieutenant, not sure if you can have it the same rules wise.

yep, in the SM codex, there are "normal" lieutenants. who can take jump packs for example.

That is great news, and, hopefully, we get them as well.i have two Sanguinary Guard Jump Packs lying around for just such an occasion.

Fingers crossed!

How quickly we disregard history and tradition for the new and shiny. My Company will add a Lt or two, that is all the changes I will make.

Master

Chaplain

1-2 Lts

6 Battleline squads (tacticals)

2 Close Support squads (assaults)

2 Fire Support squads (devastators)

Dreadnoughts

If I'm not mistaken, you get 2 lieutenants as an HQ choice anyway, so that would make sense :smile.: .

Just checked, you take them per model! You can add another in the same slot though.

I'm not too worried about the slots units take, this is more fluffy based opinion for the OPs PoV.

On the table for fun games fluff is observed as often as possible; at tourney time (and practice lists) I'm not the least bothered about looking correct, just looking awesome and being effective etc.

When our dex drops, we will likely get normal Lts and all the Primaris options too. I will not be taking any Primaris options, but a couple of Vets/Sgts might get promoted to Lts to keep my Unforgiven looking a little Codex Astartes compliant.

Well we do know that the the entire 4th Company was either wiped out or severely depleted in the Fall of Cadia. Would that then become our Primaris Company? It would be a way to keep them together (and watched by the Inner Circle) If then we could keep a structure close to a Battle Company, but with Primaris Marines. However, every picture I see with Primaris Dark Angels, they are sporting 5th Company Markings rather than 4th. What happened to Company Master Balthazar? Was he replaced by some (Not Inner Circle) Terran? Or possibly a Captain given to Cawl by the Lord of Caliban at the time of the Heresy (Luther?!!!!)

Haha, you are totally correct.

I mostly repeated what is in the new C:SM and forgot to add our command quads (Vets are not really a thing for practical purposes until we get a dex).

I like the old way of replacing a squad or two of Tacticals to fit in Vets; I never really could justify adding squads willynilly. But the last few dexes have moved away from that for whatever reason so I am trying to adjust. :P

Now I have a couple of Command Squads worth of dudes with different weapon loadouts for whatever the job requires.

Characters/HQ group:

Master, Chaplain, Lt (or two), Champion, Apothecary, Ancient.

Two Command Squads.

I will not assign squad numbers to my primaris as for now, just in case they will list current squads for 3rd company. But I can expect primaris to be in core as well as in assigned reserve squads, just as Master Sheol mentioned.
