GK Librarian and lost index options

The new Codex version of the GK librarian is 12 points more expensive, has better ws and bs. But has gained rites of banishment (a nerf) and lost the option to take a storm shield.

As he has lost an index wargear option, we are able to instead take the index version.

FAQ states we use the index datasheet, but current points cost.

So;

We have to use the lower ws/bs.

We lose rites of banishment.

We have to use the higher point cost.

Codex GK does not list the cost for a Storm Shield.

Do we use the cost from the index? Or is the most current cost for a Storm Shield found (currently) in Codex Space Marines?

Can I combine units from the index and a codex into one army?

The datasheets in the new codexes overwrite the same datasheets in the index books. You can certainly use units with updated datasheets alongside units from the index that have yet to be updated. Once a unit has been covered in the codex though, we assume you’re using the latest version.

If you're trying to pick a fight, let me remind you that trolling remains against the rules. Sarcastic smilies aren't endearing you to anyone.

Also, as an experience user of the Official Rules forum, we expect you to be sufficiently courteous as to provide links to the online resources your vaguely alluding to if you wish for us to take you seriously. A bare minimum would be a clear document citation.

With regard to a contradicted rules stance, I would expect the most recently released version to govern. Assuming of course that there is actually a contradiction and not just clarification.

Yup. That contradicts the other FAQ that let's us use dual ac dreads.

Edit. There's a dedicated or thread if you want to discuss which over rules which. :wink:

Which FaQ ?

I was under the impression that the simple solution to use a dual AC dread was to take a mortis dread from FW IA:adeptus astartes book.

One second i'll find it. It's from the developers commentary i think.

FW don't allow the GK to use mortis dreads. So that's not an option.

There are a few options that are missing in the codex that appear in the index: why is that? Does that mean I can’t use these models in my army anymore?

While the indexes are designed to cover a long history of miniatures, the codexes are designed to give you rules for the current Warhammer 40,000 range. There are a few options in the indexes for some Characters and vehicles that are no longer represented in the Citadel range – certain Dreadnought weapons that don’t come in the box, or some characters on bikes, for example.

Don’t worry though, you can still use all of these in your games if you have these older models. In these instances, use the datasheet from the index, and the most recent points published for that model and its weapons (currently, also in the index).

They still gain all the army wide-bonuses for things like Chapter Tactics and can use Space Marines Stratagems and the like, so such venerable heroes still fit right in with the rest of your army.

This wasnt from the designers commentary.

But the exact page Atia linked and quoted from.

Also i wasnt trolling, this is the thread a few topics down discussing the validity of those two faq comments and which over rules the other;

Yup. It's a quandary. My best answer regarding contradictory rules like this is to get in touch with and direct your energies to either your event organizers who'll actually make the decisions on what's allowed in their events or GeeDub's own community team who might be persuaded to issue a further FAQ.

Back to the question.

Where are the most recent points for a GK storm shield?

The index or a more recent publication like Codex Space Marines?

FAQ says to use the most recent, but doesn't offer the source.

Edit. Codex GK are the most recent points for the model. But sadly even though Draigo is armed with a Storm Shield, there are no points for one in the Codex.

The FAQ is written as a general resolution commentary, not a specific direction. Historically, direction was to not cross compare point costs between lines. The cost of a weapon for one army was not directly related to the costs for another army. With this in mind, I would assume that any back references you'd make would be to the last document that made direct reference to the Grey Knights. In this case, Index Imperium 1.

Now. If a question in a nearly identical vein on this subject is asked again with out a detail argument proposing a specific resolution I plan to consider it non-productive spamming and close it with prejudice and subject to censure. It is our expectation that people interested in this subject will engage in a good faith effort to develop their own coherent and referenced opinions to bring as a positive contribution toward resolution.
