An ancient Quest

Black Cohort

Recommended Posts

OOC: unless something seems worth delaying over coves up, I will move forward to the voyage to Entropia Six tuesday after work.

Should the initial navigation rolls be needed to move things along (excluding any maps or other bonuses the party might pick up) -

Estimate: n/a without charts

Locate Astronomicon: Dice roll (31) vs target of 44 - one degree of success

Chart Course: Dice roll (76) vs target of 105 - two degrees of success (int 55 + 10 talent + 10 implants + 10 command + 10 astronomican + 10 difficulty)

Steering: Dice roll (18) vs target of 95 - seven degrees of success - more or less depending on the difficulty of passage.

Result -

Destination reached in 1/4 normal duration (unless route has a high difficulty)

Warp travel encounters every 5 days at +20 on the chart

On target subject to 'leaving the warp test' at destination.

The meeting concluded, Romelia stands up and heads for the exit and brushes past Victris and Ethan with a simple "Gentlemen." and a nod towards both before heading to her Office and calling for a meeting with her direct subordinates.

[ooc] Feel free to grab my char here if y'all like.

+++

Once they all gather in her spartan offices - most of the decorations in the room being placed there by order of the ships captain - she motions for  them to take their seats before beginning "Alright men, listen up, we're going to be increasing patrols across the whole ship and start performing sweeps for any stowaways or other undesirables that might've found their way on board effective immediately. The most I can tell you is that an opportunity has presented itself and we leave within the week and the enemies of the Mistress being who or what they are, we cannot let them impede us in any way, clear? Now, unless you've got worthwhile questions that don't regard this opportunity, you're all dismissed." And as the group starts to leave, she makes eye contact with the person she previously handed her datapad to before leaving for the meeting telling them "You've got one hour to get that report finished and on my desk." before motioning that they can leave and diverting her gaze to the documents on her desk as they filter out of the office.

[ooc] Or Here, even.

OOC: that is awfully kind but never mind me. I am just looking to write up my background and settle on a look. In a perfect world, I would like to have a sketch ready. Guess I will have to adjust my p&p approach to this modern internet thingy ;)

So please do not let me delay the whole party here - Thane will be out of the meditation tank by the time the ship hits some serious trouble.

Preparations take place in a smooth, if rushed manner. As you head towards the edge of the system to enter the warp (which takes 3 days) you see that several other Rogue Trader vessels and a pair of Imperial Navy destroyers all launch in the hours following your departure.

The entry into the warp is smooth and the navigator quickly finds a fast, though rough, current leading towards the Entropia system. You quickly realize that a journey that would normally take about a month will be much shorter, not that it is a comfort to much of the crew as you hear and in some cases feel things impacting on the Gellar field.

It is late in the night cycle the 6th day of the voyage when key staff get a message, "Minor containment failure on engineering deck 6, Gellar field fluctuations believed at fault. Requesting duty armsmen immediately. "

OOC: if you still need to sort something that happens before leaving port please indicate that in your next post.

[ooc] While not necessarily relevant right now (5 hours wouldnt have been enough time for juicy requisition rolls), what's our Profit Factor?[/ooc]

Hearing the alert go off, Romelia tries to get in contact with any armsmen already on scene and asks "This is Jome, anyone on site, status report? Whats the situation down there?" as she rushes to get her combat gear: Armour? Check, Pistols? Check, Sword? Check. Before she was even out the door of her office she got on the "Teams" secure channel.

"This is Romelia, I'm armed and ready, heading to Deck 6 Engineering ETA <insert time it would take> before I get there; I should have some men on the scene already just waiting for their report, over." she states and once outside of her office she takes off in a hurried jog - she didn't want to arrive at the location out of breath after all.

+Thane. Responding.+

A pneumatic sigh geysered from the respirator. Sadly, this had to be expected after the rushed departure procedures. Five Hours! The old tech-adept in charge of the Enginarium would have had several cardiac arrests if it's shriveled, hunchbacked form had still contained such a biological weakness. Thane had held him to the Captain's time shedule nevertheless. Readying a vessel for Warp was always a daunting task, but to rush the old Turbulence into action? The Veritas machine spirit had none of the grace of a more nimble escort or the keen curiosity of an Explorator barge. It was a blunt thing, easily angered when awoken and pondering into the void like an unleashed mastiff. But no knowledge was ever gained without peril.

Thane had spent the remaking time in preparation, donning the Hauberk of blessed Toyama and preparing his instruments for war.. He had then began searching the data banks for references of the lost expedition using the pict of the shuttle raft as an entry point. He now dismissed the cherubim holding the data slates and rose from his lotus position. Gathering, priming and fixing his weapons in the ordained order, Thane strode towards the sanctum doors. Solus rose, assuming a hovering position off his right shoulder. Using the servo- skull as a relay, Thane canted in binary. +Enginarium, report Geller Field projection. Ready for hull breach. Prepare Sanctui medicae for the Rite of Triage+

Thane stepped from the Templum and strode towards the commotion. Knowledge was to be pried from a hostile universe.

OOC: Profit factor is 44, I will edit the post in the character thread later to make it more clear. Also does anyone know how to get bold text while posting on the mobile site?

"Commander this is Ops, reports indicate that 3 entities breached into the ship, 1 has been eliminated, initial response team has taken several casualties including one fatality and two needing serious medical attention. Team is at 75% effectiveness. Be advised that the Explorator is anticipated to arrive shortly after you."

As the Arch-Militant arrives in area of the breach, she hears several shots coming from further down the passageway, much of the lightning in the area is out, on low power or only working intermittently. But it is clear that a fight has taken place and several other crew members have been killed.

---

+ Explorator, Gellar field is again operating within acceptable parameters. It would seem the rapid activation you ordered caused a delayed power flux. Acoyltes stand by to perform the Rites of Metallic Blessing, the 4th Magnitude of transdimentional verificas and the Oratorios of Harmonic Alignment, particularly Magos Xentar's 2nd from 116.M34 "Catacasma of the Heavens". Nospheric uplink will provide an optimized route to meet the Arch Militant. Confirm Receipt.+

[ooc]You can use the [.b] and [./b] BBCodes to bold if youre on mobile.

"Copy that: Explorator is on his way, 1 of 3 hostiles eliminated, 3 Casualties. I'm in the general vicinity so watch your fire." she replies back picking up her pace slightly and readying her weapons.

Gellar Field Breaches weren't that common but when they did happen....it wasn't the best experience for those involved. At least it wasn't Daemons. Living on a Fortress World close to The Eye brought her into contact with the horrors that resided in the warp more often than probably any regular Imperial Citizen would within multiple generations and she sure as didn't want to encounter any ever again especially with a crew that had never encountered them before.

Regardless, she rounded the next corner taking a breath to steady herself as she aimed her bolt pistol ready for the enemy.

Ever since the... event... on his previous ship, Ethan Stillinger dreaded incursions from the Warp more than anything else. Eldar corsairs? Bring them on. Chaos reavers? Disappointingly predictable for bearing such a title. Ork kroozer fleets? Any day of the week and twice on Monday.

It wasn't the monstrosities themselves that unnerved him, as they died just like anything else with the proper application of force, but the feel of the Warp itself intruding upon the real world. The mind reeled at the fluidity of reality around you, not knowing what was real and what was an illusion behind your eyes. When he first felt the Gellar field flicker on his way back to his quarters, his lunch threatened to evacuate his stomach but he managed to hold it down. He was already running and voxing his personal man-servitor to ready his combat gear before the announcement of warp entities in the engineering decks came through his microbead.

"Command, this is Stillinger acknowledging alert. En route with armsmen momentarily." He quickly switched frequencies and pinged J'sembe.

"Yes, Boss?"

"You and your team better be strapping on armor as we speak."

"Of course, Boss. Gellar field incursion in engineering." The ebony-skinned former storm trooper always sounded happy, like a kid about to get some iced cream, even if he was going to face reality-twisting monstrosities from the Warp. His two companions from their old unit were much more the stereotypical military hard-asses with stony stares and as few words leaving their lips as possible. J'sembe said something in his native language and laughed.

"I am not out of breath," Ethan replied, hoping he got the translation right. Truth was, he had been somewhat indulgent with the wine and chef Aloiren's amazingly delicious and sinfully rich fare of late while putting off some of his exercise regimen. That stopped now. Ahead of him, Horatio was opening the door to his quarters as he approached. He dashed inside, pulled off of his coat and tossed it onto the bed. Horatio stood to the side, holding his mesh armor jacket like a butler preparing to dress his lord in an overcoat for an evening out in the chill. He slid his arms into the sleeves and shrugged the jacket onto his shoulders.

"You should have arrived approximately fourteen seconds faster from where you received the alarm, master," the man-servitor said in a smooth voice like an aging picter star with a few centuries under his belt.

"You're calling me out of shape too, eh?"

"I said nothing of the kind, master," Horatio replied while he helped Ethan fasten the thigh armor plates over his slacks.

"Even so, cancel my standing meal orders with Aloiren, would you?" While he buckled on the shin armor and then his holstered hellpistol, Horatio hefted the power pack for his hellgun and held it in place so he could buckle the straps around his chest and tighten them.

"At once, master, though I daresay the chef will be most disappointed. I shall also reinstate your exercise regimen." Horatio pulled the hellgun from the rack over the bed and handed it to Ethan.

"Don't let me beg off anymore, old man," Ethan said with a grin. He pulled on the three-point harness for the hellgun and connected the power feeds. The readouts on his left sleeve showed all green. Letting the hellgun hang, he pulled the pistol and connected its power feed. All green. He holstered it.

"I shall be annoyingly insistent, master, you have my word."

Running out the door, Ethan pulled up a personal vox channel and sent a ping. The channel opened. "Arch-Militant Jome, you better save some for me."

"Then pick up the pace, Mr. Stillinger." Romelia replies curtly as she approaches the breach location looking out for the armsmen that should be present in the area and taking stock of what she can.

[ooc] Awareness 33 (trained) :  1d100  = 68 that would be 3 DoF :<

But apart from the glaringly obvious, she can't make out anything mainly due to the lighting conditions in the area being deplorable at best and starts advancing cautiously bolt pistol in her main hand (right) and sword in the other.

[ooc]Sorry I was super busy at work the last few days[/ooc]

"Commander, warp entities are moving a#@$#%.........^%$#"  The link cuts out into static.  Romelia can hear gunfire coming from down the hallway as a under-strength armsmen squad of 4 joins her.

----

Ethan can hear the sounds of fighting coming from below as he descends the elevator, his estimate suggesting that he will reach to warp breach in about 2 minutes.

+Confirming optimized route. Updating known crew information to noospheric overlay.Inform non-optimized crew of ETA.+

Striding along the adjusted route, Thane was nearing the area of the reported breach. On a binary cue, Solus rose, beginning a sweep from it's Aupex appendages. Though less impaired by the poor lighting thanks his Interkeratic implants (Darksight), the Magos chose to advance slower now. Where mythical celestial beings might fear to tread, an Explorator knew that a steady, analytical advance would bring enlightenment and understanding to any situation. It also helped to minimize unnecessary attrition. He opened a vox channel.

+Thane. Advancing. Be advised, cautionary putative engagement routines are in effect. Requesting update on local crew position and rallying points+

"Alright men, hold up, defensive positions. I'm not going in there until one of you give me a rundown of just what got onto the shi[." She orders of the squad, her sights keenly fixed down the hallway, ready for anything to pop out.

While her asking the armsmen to probably describe the indescribable warpborn horrors that have manifested aboard the ship, it did buy her some time to just sit tight and wait for the Explorator and Seneschal to catch up before she engaged whatever just killed a of her men already.

"This is Romelia, Explorator, we're holed up close to the enemy and holding position until we can properly regroup and take care of whatever decided to board our ship." she replies to the unnerving synthetic voice that was the explorator.

Hearing the alarms Victris checks the power cell on his pistol. There were dozens of guards and several meters of plas-steel and ceramite doors between him and whatever might be on the ship but with warp creatures such material protections were not always enough.

Extending his mind outwards (Void watcher) he gazed though the warped space around them seeking any sign of something shadowing the vessel or clinging to the hull, but the light of the warp reflected against the ship and its gellar field like a thousand tiny mirrors in a storm of flame hiding all but the largest obstacles from his view.

(Awareness roll 47 vs target 29 - not seeing anything unless it's quite big)

Using the reported position of the Fireteams as reference, Thane advanced slowly, trying to reach a position from where to relieve the holed up armsmen. Subvocalizing the rites of preparation, the Explorator went through the Prana of Advancing into Hostile Confined Spaces, his limbs aiming the hellgun to cover his advance in swift, sweeping arcs. Auspex pulses from the ServoSkull pinged out between the advances, Thane offered a prayer to the Omnissiah and prepared for contact.

( Awareness roll 46, the Auspex not included...and assuming the Tech Use to spot potential hidden objects/ targets is a hidden GM roll)

Romelia suddenly sees a large creature charge at her and the squad from the smoke and darkness.  It's ever shifting form made of tenticles, beaks, arms, colours, fur, scales, wings invites madness if one was to look at it for too long.  It's charge ends with one of the armsmen impaled on a spike appendage.  [ooc]Romelia should make a fear check[/ooc]

-----

Ethan exits the elevator to the sounds of screaming from nearby, he must be close to the arch-militant now.

----

Thane advances through clear signs of slaughter and he hears the screams of a dying armsman as his auspex finally pings.  One of the warp xenos is just around the corner.

J'sembe, Mkeze, and Ndulu form up with Ethan as soon as he steps out of the elevator. They four of them know from painful experience to speak as little as possible around warp creatures and Ndulu motioned several sharp hand gestures in rapid succession. Hostile close. Friendly in danger.

Understood, Ethan motions back. Secure friendly. Go.

Hellguns raised, the four move silently towards the screaming, J'sembe and Ethan moving and covering each other, as Mkeze and Ndulu did the same.

A sharp hiss betrays Thane's still all-to-human-form as he involuntarily draws a breath through the respirator gills, his body tensing. Another binary cant sends Solus out and arcing overhead in an attempt to gain a reading of the Warp thing around the corner. The Magos drops low, preparing to swing around the corner below the projected possible trajectory of undisciplined firing or warpfiend claws. Digital runes race in his lower vision, counting down to the next Auspex sweep and estimated sensor return time. Thane fights down the simian urge to just look around the corner. He focuses himself, subvocalizing the Rites of Activation and thumps the safety off. The Hellgun's machine spirit humm rising just a little, anticipating the fight ahead.

The rune counter blips towards zero...

The Arch-militant sees fire-like blood erupt from wounds caused by her bolter shots, it's acidic bite eating into the walls of the corridor.  Her retreating squad passes Ethan's as they round the corner fleeing the ever-changing beast.

The Explorator rounds the corner to see the second creature standing over the bodies of several crew members, it's back currently turned from him.
