Have I hallucinated a rule?

I'm sure I saw that in one of the FAQ's they changed it so if you re-roll a 2 dice roll using the re-roll stratagem you have to re-roll both dice, but now I can't find it. Did they, or am I just going mad?

If you get to reroll the result of a 2 dice roll you have to reroll both.

But the strat says specifically to only reroll a single dice. So you only get to reroll 1 if you use it.

For example.

A GK with First to the Fray rolls a 1 and a 6 to charge.

If he opts to use FttF to reroll, he would have to reroll both dice.

If he opts to spend the CP and use the stratagem he could choose to reroll only the 1 and keep the 6.

Check you are reading version 1.1 of the FaQ/errata, as this particular entry wasn't in version 1.0.

The 1CP strategem states in only for 1 die, so on a charge you can only do 1. If something allows you redo a roll then say it's 3d6 for example then you my re roll some or all of them as per the section in the rules regarding re rolls.

So if you are allowed to reroll charges you can reroll both on a double 1 or on a 1 and 6 you can reroll just the 1.

This is not correct as of the latest FAQ.

– Re-rolls

Change this paragraph to read:

‘Some rules allow you to re-roll a dice roll, which means you get to roll some or all of the dice again. If a rule allows you to re-roll a result that was made by adding several dice together (e.g. 2D6, 3D6, etc.) then, unless otherwise stated, you must roll all of those dice again. You can never re-roll a dice more than once, and re-rolls happen before modifiers (if any) are applied.’

The 1CP strat explicitly says you can re-roll any single dice, so this does not apply; but for general re-rolls, if you say rolled a 1 & 6 for a charge, you'd have to re-roll both or neither.

It contradicts itself by saying some or all and then gives an example where that is not the case. It is also counter to what was said on Warhammer Live after the FAQ came out where they said you could roll just some. GW strikes again.

There's no contradiction... the "unless otherwise stated" sees to that.

You're a Black Templar player, you failed a 9" charge by rolling a 6 and a 2. You can :

  • use the chapter trait to reroll both dice for free
  • use the stratagem and lose 1 CP to only reroll the 2

The chapter trait doesn't specify anything (reroll charges) so you must reroll everything. The stratagem specifies one single dice so you reroll one single dice.

If you have a unit that re-rolls failed Wound rolls, they may re-roll some or all of the dice. If any of those Wound rolls are made with 2 or more dice, then any re-roll they make has to re-roll all of the dice used for that roll.

Does that make sense? You can re-roll some of the rolls but for each re-roll, you use all the dice used for that roll.
