Seems interesting I didn't even know Vulkan and his chapter were on Terra during the Heresy, though I'll probably wait for the reviews before I pick it up, still hoping for a proper Death Guard novel from BL which actually focuses on those who stayed loyal to Mortarion

Probably because I dont think they were ever mentioned. The 'shattered' legions have had far too much screen time when you consider the lack thereof for other, more primary in the heresy, Legions.

Its, whatever, at this point, but it looks like a case of certain authors 'owning' certain legions, and being able to just push out book after book after story.

As you say, where is the Death Guard novel? Blood Angels?

I hope, as the Dark Gods as my witness, we get some of the A Team doing Terra and wrapping up this story, because I have tables ready to flip if not.

Good catch, Demus!

Checked it on Lexicanum and it nearly looks like Numeon's spear. Only difference would be the detent of the blade itself. Compared to Numeons artwork, this blade is reversed.

*edit*

Currently at work. Therefore, I can't link it right now.

Now THAT'S a cover!

Good cover does not make it a good book...

It's KYME - HE HAD 2 ATTEMPTS with Vulkan Lives and Deathfire - why do you think this one would be better?

In my humble opinion I don't mind Salamanders - I'm disappointed with what and how Kyme do to/with them

b1soul

'Kyme never disappoints...looking forward to this' - best joke EVER.

Plus we all know how it will all go:

Vulkan speech we need to go to Terra > Salamanders prepare to go to Terra > some warband in the way > bolter porn > Vulkan and co enters the Webway > Vulkan and co fight daemons > more bolter porn > Vulkan save Custodian and arrive on Terra > Vulkan guards the Webway entrance under the Imperial Palace > The end.

As far as the last novel is concerned the webway has been shut so the notion that it needs to be defended is a bit silly ... in my opinion that is.

Also, having Vulkan on Terra during the siege is ok as far as I think. It was never mentioned in the original lore but it's not something that will change the course of the siege in any great way.

Hopefully there will be some "expected" but unexpected plot twists for something important to give me delightful feelings in between my novels.

i didn't see that post coming at all

I'm consistent with my love for Kyme's Salamanders. What's wrong with that.

It wasn't shut  - it was temporaly shut. Webway war still going on with warp breaches appearing everywhere.

Well you say that but the wording of TMoM gave the impression it was closed and The Emperor had given up on the whole plan to open a stable path to the Webway.

I'm aware that the existing lore states that without Him sitting on the Golden Throne the gate would open and Daemons would pour through but there hasn't been anything explicit on this subject for many years.

In fact I remember lore stating that Mechanicum went through the gate to find the Dark Eldar in a bid to help restore Him. If it were heaving with Daemons then they wouldn't be able to just walk through ... would they?

10000 years later?

After a temporary closure of the breach - In old Earth I already 'envision' how breach will appear again and Vulkan will stand guardian during all the Siege of the Imperial Palace

Maybe Kyme has become a better writer. Yes, he's not the best writer but maybe he's improved his work.

Either way, This motivates me to get caught up wit the HH books so I can read this!

I thought the same several years ago then getting Deathfire and later Sons of the Forge. Guess what? He did not :censored:

Vulkan Lives, Deathfire, Sons of the Forge are the same blank, boring, sometimes plainly stupid, poorly written bolter-porn novels.

The authors should be encouraged to write about "each other's" Primarchs. This would prevent us (customers) being stuck with a single description of each character.

I'm not saying it would be great because some people will always prefer author X to write about primarch Y but in the case of the Salamanders it might help give better depictions.

Man - I would have applause the decision if poor Salamanders would have been given to any other author to write about. At least for one novel

I am getting this to read about the Marr and Meduson arc. Meduson (as well as related stories) is probably some of the best in the shattered legion stuff plus Abnett kicked it off with that gem.

I hope Kyme will do it justice. I actually like his shorts and novella length stuff. Some of it was cliche like red-marked but in general pretty good. His full length however (imho) has not been as good. Vulken lives was not bad and I liked it but deathfire (i think that was the sequel) was painful esp with "Vulkan lives!" Ad naseum with some death guard ship attacking their home world...really!?! I do enjoy Vulkan as a character as he is def the most human.

Will get for sure but for me I am dying to see the meduson arc get some closure (maybe).

Do not forget the copypaste from 'Avatar' - mother nature help us...

As for the Meduson arc - sure most of us want to see the end of that 'get his head, but not today' from the Meduson. But Kyme?:facepalm::confused:

Why it started with Abnett and finished with Kyme :furious:

Ha I agree would have been psyched if Abnett finished it their rivlary a la "Black legion style" heck I'd be just as happy if Wraight did it, his hand elect and grey talon story is just as good and its Wraight.

My expectations will not be as high.

Wraight would have done justice or even French, but K.... So disappointed.

Let's forget for a second subjective things about what readers people like, or which legion they prefer.

Look, one of the wonderful things about the Horus Heresy series is that we get to fill in the blanks on that significant span of time between the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre and the Siege of Terra. This means getting some idea of what factions who previously got virtually no mention post-Isstvan, like the Shattered Legions. At this point, though, we are about to embark on the third numbered Heresy novel whose focus is Vulkan and/or the XVIII Legion. That's not counting three novellas and a number of other Shattered Legions tie-ins, one of which included another numbered Heresy novel.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Fists likewise have had a single novel, and split a novella with the Iron Warriors. Since Fear to Tread, Sanguinius and the Blood Angels have been given cameo appearances in the Imperium Secundus story arc. They are finally due to feature properly in a novel... shared with the Dark Angels and Ultramarines. Besides a plethora of Shattered Legions tie-ins they've shared with the Salamanders and Raven Guard, the Iron Hands have been graced with a single novel almost entirely separated from the continuity of the series and two novellas. The World Eaters have properly featured in but a single novel. The Death Guard have had a single novel and have gotten cameos in Deathfire and The Path of Heaven.

I hope Nick Kyme knows Old Earth out the park. I hope it ties in beautifully with the larger storyline. Right now, though, I question the priority that has been assigned to the Salamanders. So much of this galactic-scale war has thus far been spent within a very small number of locations, and legions that we always knew will be at the Siege of Terra are getting noticeably less time in the spotlight than ones we had next to zero situational awareness about up to and including the Scouring and the Second Founding.

^this.

Honestly, I would be far more interested in Vilkan and the Salamanders if other factions got a moment in the spotlight. BL has definitely far overcompensated at this point.

Sorry to the authors: I hope your books do well and I wish you the best, but I am kind of tapped out at this point. It's like going to a show and the warm up band plays for 12hrs: you would buy their CD if it was kept in proportion, but when it makes you want to leave the arena before the group you bought the ticket to see even gets on stage, that's a problem.

I am really surprised that they didn't do 18 novels with each focusing on a Legion/Primarch sprinkled into the first few books of the heresy. I guess that's what the Primarch series is for.

Hope this is good for those interested in reading it. Don't want to rain on anyone's parade.
