Impractical Tacticals ?

I recently bought an HH army from another gamer who was down sizing their collection.

 

One of the squads in the army is a 10 strong tactical squad equipped with CCW and bolt pistols ( well almost - the original owner didnt get round to adding the pistols ),

 

Before I clip the arms off and make them into regular bolter armed tacs or another type of squad I wanted to know if the bolt pistol and chainsword marine is a worthwhile unit on the table ? 

 

Oh if it helps the army is Salamanders.

Probably not for Salamanders, no. Fair few Legions that can or could make decent use of the "despoiler" configuration, but Sallies don't like being near anything unless they're Firedrakes, or if it's about 4-8" away and they have flamers.

Clip away. As a Legion that doesn't add initiative to sweeping advances, and reduces their run & charge by 1, a despoiler squad isn't really the ticket for you.
