Warhammer Y3K

With Necromunda coming out I was thinking about the possibility of using the rules to run a setting for a modern style post-Apocalypse setting using Warhammer elements (Orks, Elves, Dwarves, Chaos, etc). The idea is that we start a nuclear war all on our own and the setting picks up about a thousand years later. The Chaos gods (all 4, so definitely in a separate universe) thought it was funny as hell and want to see what else we do, so cults are springing up among survivors. The war damaged the dimensional fabric so lesser Daemons can come through, so cultists might be able to call one or two, and there are mystics that can tap extra dimensional energies (no one can agree if it's magic, psychics, faith, etc).

Humans: Come in Chaos and non-Chaos flavors. Non-Chaos can get access to some kind of mystic order that acts as a more mercenary form of Jedi, Kai Lords, or whatever you want to call them.

Dwarves: Originally those wealthy SOBs that had secret bunkers. Life underground might have made them short but they have the best tech.

Orks: Were human once, but we're infected by a mutant plant that caused them to mutate into violent green cannibals.

Elves: I'm going with more Wild Elves here and not from our dimension. They often pop in to hunt us for sport.

The Undead: I suppose zombies have to fit in somewhere, but I'm thinking the intelligent kind that hate the living so a bit like Necrons too.

If someone is feeling really ambitious, the Tau might be turned into Greys.

The game would center around war bands from various settlements rather than squads. Yes you could just play Shadow War or Necromunda but SW seems more static in what happens to your models and Necromunda doesn't have options for Orks and such.

Is there anything you think needs to be included from either WH game or anything that I suggested that steps to far away from the WH settings?

It almost sounds like something you could run pretty well with some tweaks to Mordheim as well, if the rules are available somewhere. Otherwise will necro, you'd have a ruleset and would just have to create the gangs. It sounds like the idea should work for you, and could lead to some pretty cool models of high tech fantasy.

Sounds a bit like Shadowrun, but with miniatures.

And that MTV show with the magic tree and all...

Tangentially, that Into the Badlands show bothers me. I can't see people just saying "okay, we will not use guns and learn Kung Fu and manual weapons" and the one group that does would roll in like the Brotherhood of Steel and make it look like a battle from that anime Gate.

Similarly how...whatever probably nanomachines or whatever appearantly stopped nuclear reaction from working and steam engines in that Revolution show (but they always had perfect hair and makeup and clothes straight out of The Gap for 20 years without power...) Oh and everybody gave up their guns...in America (again) and learned how to swashbuckle fight after only 20 years.

The :cuss?

Guns would be available for every one: more heavily for dwarves and less so for elves, but mysticism would be a balancing factor. Also I would learn Kung Fu if it let me do bending like in Avatar, choke people with the force, or communicate with animals; which would be akin to what mystics do. Sure it might not be a 30mm automatic grenade launcher, but the dwarves wouldn't really be able to field too many of those.

I have a work in progress ruleset based on necromunda in the works I can let you use: its meant to work with both vehicles and infantry, but nothing larger than say a Leman Russ or the system breaks down.
