GW or FW Predators?

Hey everyone!

So I'm planning on picking up three predators for my Black Legion but I'm just curious on what your thoughts are regarding the two different types of tanks.

https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Deimos-Predator-Squadron-2017

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Chaos-Space-Marines-Predator

The Gamesworkshop ones are currently out of stock, but I won't be buying them for a fw months so I have time. I was mainly looking for aesthetic and lore reasons to pick one over the other.

Thanks a bunch for your input!

The FW ones incorporate some visual queues from the old-old GW model, which has come to be a visual shorthand for 'heresy stuff', which might be relevant to your army thematically.  Personally, I prefer the GW model, if only for the ability to use this third party extra armor kit.  But that kit is /also/ out of stock right now, so...  *shrug*.

I've got a big soft spot for the old round turrets (I have my original plastic one somewhere in dire need of some love) so forgeworld for me every time given the choice. Plus deimos pattern is firmly entrenched as a Great Crusade pattern now, so more appropriate for Legion forces. But they ain't cheap.

The Deimos ones are so cool. I dig the rhinos as well. I'm planning to get one of the Deimos to kitbash with my current plastic and old 2nd ed metal and plastic one. I like when chaos vehicles are really warped and look cobbled together from different sources though.

Thanks for the info seems I'll have to think a bit more about this. That 3rd party extra armor looks real nice. Though I think that would prevent me from using the model at any GW sanctioned event unless they have eased up about that stuff.

I'm leaning toward the Deimos right now but I have not had the best experiences with resin models.

I prefer the FW model but with the GW turret.

Tho it's a big chunk of Resin so overall I'd go for the GW one.

Ooh, do you have any pictures? In my head that looks like the 3rd Ed metal Predator Destructor (boxy turret) which would be a nice call-back.

Nop don't have any pictures because I don't own such a model. It's just what I'd do if I'd care about buying resin models.

Since I live in the USA I'm just worried about getting a bad mold. Paying to ship it back to them then back to me... and I might as well have just gone with the GW tanks as there is a store down the road a ways.

Oh darn. Looks like I'll be playing around in MS Paint to get a rough look.

Thanks for the idea though, it will be a neat way to (further) separate my Iron Warrior and Salamander Predators whilst avoiding the awful bubble-turret.

FW never makes customers pay for return shipping due to faulty product. In fact, many people on the forums that reported issues have received a brand new copy of whatever was defective without ever having to return the faulty unit.

Some people have then went on to repair the faulty parts or used those pieces that were serviceable as conversion fodder.

Good company, good cusomter service.

QFT. Had a problem with a Spartan I bought 4 years prior, they shipped new parts without it costing me anything. Let me keep the original.

That said - the Helforged Predators have special rules that make them superior. Use them where you can.

Get the Forgeworld Predators, definitely.

They are easy kits to work with, look great in person, an the Hellforged Predator has better rules (you can see them on Warhammer Community)! Check out the Plasma variant :-D
