Where have all the Xenos gone?

You know, I thought I had finally adjusted to the reality of 30K staying 7th and 40K going 8th, but then nostalgia set in.

You know what? Fighting Orks, Eldar, Necrons, and Tyranids with my 30K force was a ton of fun. Legion vs Legion is great, but anyone else missing the Great Crusade themed matches of yesteryear?

The way I see it you have a few options:

1) Be patient, 8th is still very new and will likely enjoy 6 months to a year of being a lot of people's primary focus
2) Develop your skills of persuasion and encourage locals to dust off their 7th ed. books for a different kind of game

3) Same as 2 except replace persuading you potential opponents with bribery.
4) Invent a time machine

Same here.

But as a matter of fact we didn't had any Xenos left before 8th arrived in the first place.

I even considered making a Ork Zone Mortalis Army just for the lolz but Damn, their codex sucks ass really bad.

What an horrible book that is. Pure garbage.

Yeah. Thankfully 1d4chan's list fixes a lot of that, plus my "group" (me and 2 other guys :unsure.: ) are pretty laid back when it comes to 30k so I won't be encountering any super mozarella with them.

I'm considering doing an Ork force for 30k too, using the list.

My group is great too so it won't be an issue to field Orks, but I wasn't talking about power levels. The 'dex is just poorly written.

No love seems to have gone into that. It doesn't even look finished and lots of copy paste was going on in the making apparently. :(

But i still believe that it would be fun to have a Zone Mortalis themed army.

But why should I play that dumb down version of my favorite game and not the real deal? ;) Edited by Gorgoff

I'm never taking my Orks back to the Age of Darkness again. It was fun when I had no practical alternatives for my Orks but I like them much more in 8th edition.

But why should I play that dumb down version of my favorite game and not the real deal?

That's what I was just trying to say about my Orks.

I've briefly contemplated burning my 7th edition codex and supplements.  But  I paid for them so I'm just going to box them away. If anything it's encouraged me to get my Legion sorted out so it's not all bad.

Why should I play a cumbersome, lame and outdated version of the real deal? Especially when playing with my partner, as it's easier to introduce someone new to the game? Also 8th plays 10000 times better, and is more fun than 7th ever was. Of course that's just my oppinion.

Edit:

Also, just to note, Alan himself wanted to do the transition to 8th ASAP, but sadly he passed away. But that was of course just his oppinion

8th is for the new players and for players who play only occasionally, granted.

I'm neither of them and if you are -like me- able to keep rules in your mind and don't forget them all the time it isn't cumbersome. It's only lame against players of the "learn in the fly" and "I don't read rules" kind of players. They make a game awkward, tiring and cumbersome, because you always have to stop and explain stuff. Basic stuff like how to move in assaults or how to remove casualties.

But me and my 8-10 playing buddies are none of that type. We know the game and we know how to play it.

We can play a 3k game unser three hours without any problem. And I like tank rules.

Yes, toughness and saves for vehicles are a great idea but having no angles for firing weapons and different armour values anymore, reduces vehicle miniatures to Lego bricks from where to measure and nothing more.

While being obviously a great idea for the dozens infantry models in a regular army I want more depth in playing those huge and expansive models.

Having seen at the ETC what kind of "balance" GW has in mind I don't think 8th is a good game if you like depth in your gaming experience.

And even in games where both sides are not powergamers they tend to be over in second turn most of the time, one side either blown to pieces or wiped in cc.

Not even once I've seen a game which I'd call exciting. Just pushing around miniatures in a general direction, throwing a LOT of dice and taking away casualties. Reminds me of Apocalypse games including Titans.

I DO see the advantage of this game though and I see lots of very good ideas rulewise (movement values, weapons with more than one damage, save and shooting modifications etc) but on the other hand they took the key features which made that game challanging.

At least for me.

But I'm an old :cuss who still moarn the loss of the 2. Edition vehicle rules, so what do I know. ;)

Edit:

Ouh, I've found a good comparison.

8th is like X-Wing. Fast, small Scale, easy to play once in a while.

7th is like Star Wars Armada. Great game, but if you just play it once or twice a year ypu are pretty :cussed. :)

Sorry Atia, I must've missed that one, one of the last questions I thought was asked (somewhere on here) was this, and they intended to use 7th as a basis for a stand alone FW Heresy rule book.

Or did I imagine this?!

They intend it now. Still, that's not what was planned originally, by both Alan and the FW team. 30k was always supposed to be an expansion for 40k. That's literally a quote by Tony from the last heresy weekender. The real question is if FW will be able to tackle this now, or later.

The "HH rule book" aka 7th edition needs to get printed / released online because well, 7th is no longer available, and they need to sell basic rules. For how long? I can't tell you, because again, with Alans' demise plans changed :/

With HH staying 7th and getting own rules, what you guys think:

Will will get a black book Xenos? :D

They need to bring a deamon book for sure since they can be allies and such.

Wouldn't that be glorious?

I could see that. Something like an index with a few Xenos FOC's and some limitations on what's available to those armies for balance but I don't think it would be every good no one likes not being able to use their models, this causes a slight problem. And the less work FW has to do the better for their work load. I'd expect, maybe, Xenos 30K compatible characters, new characters with rules to help push the Xenos. No reason Ghazghkull should be an option or any other "current" characters. I think it really comes down to how cost effective would it be for them. I doubt they will do it.
