tying a warband together thematically

CrimsonReign

Recommended Posts

I have a fair number of csm, some are red and gold, some are black and pink

im working on some fluff to tie both bands together, along with my renegades guard (purple and white)

but I'm coming up short with an idea of tying them together visually - I'm thinking a matching shoulderpad with a logo on, but no idea what logo to go for, or what colours would work for it

any suggestions are welcome ^_^

The logo should depend on what your fluff is - use something that matches that.

I think a gold logo on a black background would look nice and would tie the colours of your units together.  As well, gold goes well with both red and purple.

Red, pink, purple, black, white, and gold.

Red, pink, and purple will go fine together as long as they are all related shades, like if the pink is your red mixed with white and your purple is the same red mixed with blue.

I'd suggest maybe using the gold as Ana cent color on all the models to help tie them together.

I agree, and think this should be explored. Why are your two (or three!) distinct factions united? What god(s) do they serve? What rivalries divide them?

Using the same base is a must offcourse but otherwise using the same Iconography is ideal, thinking about banners, hooks, even paint on skulls, those kinds of details that you might miss on first glance but see if you look longer at ot. Mixing more than 3 would be very difficult but Warpaint and stuff helps aswell.

I ran into this problem with my Dusk Raiders as I wanted to make the cult marines look different (besides the larger size, because my chosen will also be primaris) so I decided to go half and half: their right arm would be their original color scheme during the horus heresy while the right would stay silver.

Could always make them part of the Black Legion. There are tons of random warbands sworn to Abaddon, so perhaps the black legion decal or painting one shoulderpad/whatever black and gold.

Well fluff-wise there's nothing that says your guys need to look uniform, but I think an army with so many different color schemes looks a bit too busy on the table.

to summarise the backstory thus far

its some noise marines  who have corrupted a planet with the temptations of slaanesh

the crimson slaughter guys chose not to follow Kranon on his campaign against the nature of chaos and ended up embracing the madness. They found this cult to welcome their voices and plunge themselves ever further into the excesses they offer

its part of a campaign that will be happening with a group so the setting will become more grounded in the future

thanks for the advice guys n gals ^_^

If all the odd details are the same colors it can help. Things like armor tubing, metals, weapons, claws and power weapons colors etc. also as said the bases should all be the same terrain and detailing. If you are used to mixing colors, and mix highlight colors, can use same color in to keep the tones the same. For example, i use lots of celestra grey to highlight black, blue, grey etc
