Hawkmen wings ideas for Space Wolves

When the Sanguinary Guard models came out years ago, I had a flash-back (no pun intended) to the Movie Flash Gordon and Brain Blessed as the king of the Hawkmen.  As I remembered it they were Viking types with wings, draped in furs.  Well in reality they were covered in golden feathers and look so camp in their tight little shorts:

Flash

Not put off by this I stuck with the image in my head and started building up some ideas for poses and weapons for a squad of Winged Space Wolves using the these jump packs:

Wings

The thing that stopped me completing the project was the colour scheme for the wings.  In my head they Space Wolves use Ravens a lot, so black on the feathers seemed the best option, but I think a large section of black against the baby-blue of my 40k Wolves would look rubbish.  I wanted the frame of the wings to be bronze/brass like I use for trim of most of my wolves.

I saw this pic recently (sorry for using someone else's pic, but don't know where it came from) and I like the this colour combo:

Wings 2

Just wanted to see if anyone else had done similar - I've not really found any images of anyone doing the same idea so far.  And also what people though of the wings colour

I hadn't even thought about using wings in the Wolves.

What about creams and browns like a hawks wing, it would compliment the bronze/brass look you'd be going for.

I read a book a while back, and I am sure the hawk was seen as a sign of guilt or vengeance and would fly over the heads of the guilty so they would be highlighted and punished

Wolf_Priest_Dantay - My first go at this was to go for the cream coloured wings, like a bone colour, but at the time I could not really see any refs to that kind of bird in the SW lore, but I guess I don't have to follow any lore, but I like the sound of the hawk being vengeance.  My first test model used one of the Blood Angels bodies that has the contoured abs and chest, I wanted them to look lean almost gaunt figures.  I'll dig out some pictures.

Sorry mate, all I can think of when seeing your model is ....

FIRST WAVE DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVEEEEE! SECOND WAVE DIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVEEEE!

seriously speaking though, awesome model but a bit too bluish for my taste, and the iconogragphy is still obviously Blood Angels.

Kasper_Hawser - sorry that's not my model, that was the only image I could find of a colour scheme similar to what I had in mind, my versions would have no Blood Angel Icons and would be furred up to the max and covered in wolf skulls and fetishes!

But yeah I know what you mean about First Wave Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeee.

It's funny how you memories play tricks on you, like I said in my mind the Hawkmen were more Viking and Brain wall wielding a hammer!

Only image I have on me at the moment is the bit of work I did on the Jump Pack main part:

Step 15

Not 100% happy with it, as I did this maybe 2 years ago and I know I can better now.

A little offtopic, but it seems like although Flash Gordon character is American in origin, this particular film was more famous in UK due to Brian Blessed as that ridiculously campy but strangely awesome bare legged hawkmen with the mannerisms of a lecherous neckbeard. Didn't really scream viking to me though, but certainly manly in an era where men were secure enough to wear shorts and not called sissies.

Did find someone who did something similar and went for the black wings idea, I'm not a fan off the black here, like I thought, to me it looks wrong.  No offence to guy who did it.
