Seeing as it's been around ten plus years, the vacuum this will leave is going to be interesting in seeing what might fill it. Probably not a grand saga like this. We've been taking more than a few blows recently what with everything that's happened these past few months, and honestly, this is something we've never really experienced before. Black Library's Horus Heresy has been a cornerstone of the 30k community since, well, before it was really a community, and I'm not sure anyone could be entirely certain what import it carries with us. We've known since the beginning of the year that they're reaching the end phase of the series, moving quickly now towards the Siege and all that brings. Given the effort that goes into writing the books, it shouldn't be surprising at all that the final planning sessions have been booked in. What will replace it, who knows! Oh, of course, yes, this is not strictly news in and of itself. We have known for a while, like you say, that the end is coming. It maybe be of questionable content, but from an editorial standpoint showed that they CAN make a book series with various authors and release it monthly. It also showed that people can be interested in different Eras of the universe...so can we get an Age of Apostasy series? Getting some focus on the Ministorum and the founding Sisters of Battle would be wondrous. Ascanius Posted September 16, 2017 Share Posted September 16, 2017 I wouldn't be surprised to see some novels set during the Scouring, but I guess I would be surprised to see Black Library finish the Horus Heresy series and then launch right into the immediate aftermath as The Next Big Thing. I'd expect something more like the War of the Beast idea, exploring a lesser-known era, or something set during the Indomitus Crusade to explore unanswered questions about how the Imperium reacted to the resurrection of Guilliman, the introduction of the Primaris Space Marines, the birth of the Great Rift, et cetera. We all know that not all books in the HH series are that great. I personally has stopped buying because I am waiting on the mass paperback editions which usually come after a year of the premium and digital formats so I can't tell how good the latest stories are. It was always planned to finish. Black Library may be a business, but its a creative one that has much of its drive by their authors and editors, and the Horus Heresy was always set to tell specific stories - the fall of Horus, Istvann, Prospero, and of course, the Siege of Terra. In fact, many fans have been complaining that the Siege was taking too long to happen because they also want to read these stories. There's a lot of hope riding on this, I hope it doesn't come down to, "we had an orbit battle, then landed, then attacked the walls, then it was over." I'm being facetious, but this should be a no holds barred match with a lot of back and forth. I want to see Perturabo doing what he does best, but flying into a rage when the Khan grabs the orbital. I'd like to see how the Sons of Horus perform in the Siege even though they were largely held back as a reserve. Semper Fortis Posted September 16, 2017 Share Posted September 16, 2017 I will be more than a little sad to see HH come to a conclusion. At the same time, I can't wait to see what comes next. Perhaps we should consider not just BL, but also FW involvement in the next "big thing". There is a synergy between the HH novels and FW models that drives sales of both. I read a novel, I want the Sicaran MBT described there. I see the {insert new model here} just released, I want to read the novel describing him/it. What era/event has the biggest opportunity to tell a tale that might be stretched over many novels and also provide for many new models of varying price ranges? I can't see War of the Beast proving much fodder. BL have already told the story but, unless GW are about to break loose with an entire new ork range, there might not much by way of a new model line. Age of Apostasy? There might be more than a few tales there. It would provide opportunity for more Custodes, some character figures, and lots of SoB. (Plastic Sisters of Battle confirmed.)
