Citadel Paint App - Feedback and post-release discussion

Recommended Posts

Got it now. Liking the app, but wondering why they didn't put in the different types of paint like spray can and air brush.

I'll be cataloging everything as soon as I get home tonight.

New GW you did good!

'Corax white spray' is in there. But strangely enough Chaos black spary isn't.

And you're right, it would have nice to be able to denote whether you had a certain paint in different type you can buy it like Layer/Air/Spray for instance.

Leave that as comments on the app store. Devs who care even a bit scour these comments for feedback and tips.

The app is an excellent tool, but it does not have all the functions I had hoped for.

While it give a really god list of colours and how to paint them.

It dos not give you a preview on how it might look on a figure. (Something I had hope for)

All in all, I think that GW did a good job, and I will be using the app.

But I does not live up to all my expectations.

9/10

I think the app is great for free aside from the things mentioned like air paint etc.

I thought of this as a clever money maker for GW but then I realized it will actually save me money! I can't tell you how many bottles of Sotek green I have at home. But every once in a while I am certain I need it! ( so says the cardboard box I found yesterday with 5 unopened bottles)

I echo the sentiments good start definitely room to grow which they seem to do.

Ill probably be posting on their fb or app store with similar suggests as others and I encourage people to do it too.

My suggestions would be

Citadel specific colour wheel

Full paint range including FW and air

Ability to record qty for what paints you have

Ability to store your own paint schemes

It's good for keeping track of what paints you have/ need. Otherwise all examples are poorly done, many of them like the kataphron and onager have different reds, but should be the same..

I'm hoping they expand the app to create your own recipe and picture format like they have, with a way to share it

I was just at the store... no joke, I forgot the combo they used with Agrellan Earth. (I knew they had a funky wash in there). I had it on my wish list, and realized I needed the dry colour too.

Now I realize this sounds pretty straightforward but I don't write this stuff down all the time. My phone is always on me. When I pull out the air brush and think... oh man I'm low on 'Ushabti Bone"... I forget at least 50% of the time.

Maybe this app is actually telling me I paint too much. lol

Well as a beginner painter I think it can be useful to find good basic combos without having to scan through tons of youtube videos. I do most painting with 1 each of base-layer-highlight and sometimes shader and like that this can give me good tips quickly.

Am working on my 2nd Armies on Parade board (other system), was having a hard time figuring out how i wanted to base said army.  Boom looked at the basing section. found an idea very quickly.  Got the paint yestarday and did the characters for the board.  Simple and easy.  4 paints and im already working on more models.  just need to order enough to do a full 2x2.  Already want to see whats going to come next.

problem is, it doesn't really match it. just tells you which of the colours already load in the app is closest to what you took a picture of. my metallic blue grey knights came back with "cold white" I think it was. which was actually pretty close to my metallic blue, but would in no way match the rest of my army...

I like the app as a replacement for that lovely wall poster with the colors - because I've used said poster to spark ideas rather than a guide.

But otherwise? It's just a convenient place for my shopping list. That's it.

I really wish it had a way to list what colors you planned on using on a model. Other than the canon colors. I'd use the hell of that, however method it was implemented. Oh well.
