New Edition, New Codex, New Army - Voss Prime

Back in March / April, I picked up a few Mechanicus boxes - the Start Collecting set, another Skitarii box, some robots, and a Techpriest. Once the new edition was announced, I set them aside awaiting the new Codex. With that published, I've chosen a colour scheme - Voss Prime (I know, a quartered colour scheme, yellow, what am I thinking!?). This will be my little painting log as I paint The Right Hand of Mars.

I'll be adding all the images to the B&C gallery.

So work in progress update 1. and I'm happy with how everything is going.

Six Skitarii Vanguard most of the way there. I'm going for fairly bright yellows and reds for the robes, with the metal [boltgun for the warplate, brass for weapons and backpack] in darker tones. More detail I can add, but I think I'll paint the remaining four members of the squad, and then add finishing touches across all ten for consistency.

Will try taking photos of the finished squad with my proper camera and natural daylight - some slightly odd things with the metal highlights going on below in the photos

Thanks all for your comments, good to know I'm doing a good job of honouring Voss Prime and Mars!

The design of the Skitarii (and what brilliant models they are!) makes it relatively easy to keep the yellow and red seperate.

When the rest of the Vanguard are done, will move on to some non infantry - maybe the Dominus, or the Dunecrawler. I think the robots are my favourite models so might leave them to last as a reward for getting through the rest!

Good work RGH,

I'm glad others are going Voss Prime, can I ask since I don't have the Dex yet... What are the colours for the vehicles like as I'm doing Voss as well. On the troops is it simply an exact quartered scheme?,

Cheers mithril

Good question! The Codex doesn't have any information on Voss Prime vechicles. The art for the troops is quartered, and there is a painted Enginseer who is in a yellow and red scheme but not actually quartered. Beyond that, I think it's up to our imagination. On a dunecrawler, because the sides are unequal, I don't think a quartered scheme will work.

OK, thanks for the info.

Perhaps on the vehicles a 50/50 split might work...

The Onager would look good that way!, Kastelans though might be tricky... Are there any red/yellow coloured Kastelans in the special bots colour scheme page? ,

Also well done indeed, your stuffs looking real good :-)

Cheers, Mithril

Interestingly, the bots colour scheme page is all non forgeworld / specialists / bots of legion. No colour schemes for the main forgeworlds. Lots of ideas and inspiration though.

Yeah all the Kastelans are rare one off's that have survived for years and years, maybe just copy one of em that might be good in red/yellow, I'm on holidays at the moment and can't wait to get home to start painting Voss Prime skitarii!

I actually like that the robits are non-standard in colour due to age; each maniple is intended to be a "batch" that could have been manufactured before the Great Crusade.  You can still use accents/symbols to tie them into your army's scheme, of course.  FWIW I think doing Voss Prime "quartered" Kastelans would look smashing!  :D

great effort so far :tu:  can't wait to see em all finished ,it'll look like a Ad-mech howling griffons force

what scheme i.e. halved or quartered did you decide to use on the Onager??...

cheers, Mithril

Halved on the front, and then the rest in red with key features picked out in yellow. No way I could neatly quarter it!
