Officially starting guard finally.

Bought a command squad today after reading the warhammer community posts on the new codex. Sounds fun. I've wanted to do a guard army for a long time but never really have.

Here are my first two units. A company commander and a command squad. Command squad is equipped with four melta guns. Commander has a power maul and a plasma pistol.

Guy with the half cloak looked really derpy to me, so I'm doing some more work on him. So far I've shortened the half-cloak and modified his helmet a bit, and also changed the angle of his head.

I'm modifying the Cadian helmets. The brick that sticks out on the back of the Cadian Pattern Helmet looks bad to me, so I'm removing it and smoothing the back. I know from personal experience you want as little weight as possible on your helmet, and that brick just looks like its a bad idea. Helmets are there to keep you from hurting your head when you bump into things or things bump into you, they are not for stopping bullets, lasers, bioacid, or other weapons. The only weapons a helmet is designed to protect you from are those which apply blunt force, and shrapnel. Riding in a chimera or other armored vehicle is bumpy, and you can and will smack your head into the inside of the vehicle frequently. This is why you wear a helmet.

Made some tweaks, scraped some mould lines, and filled some gaps.

All names and likenesses to actual people are probably intentional.

Doc Hardin Payne

Regimental chief surgeon, "Doc Payne" first was interested in medicine when he realized at a young age that knowledge of anatomy would help make him a more effective fighter. In addition to being the chief regimental surgeon he is also the chief combative instructor, able to demonstrate all kinds of creative methods to incapacitate people in hand to hand combat. He frequently demonstrates these advanced techniques on whatever unfortunate soldier or junior staff officer is nearby. His bedside manner is "rough", and he has a dramatically low rate of malingering in his field hospital. Docs aidbag is filled with an ancient Terran herbal recipe known as "Motrin", which he hands out like candy to his troops in the field.

Regimental Operations Sergeant Major Goode. Sgm Goode finds joy in three things in life, drinking, chasing women, and fighting. He is exceptionally skilled in all three. Rumor has it that he can and has outdrunk a space marine, and that he has survived making (successful) sexual advances to battle sisters. The only thing Sgm Goode fears, and the only thing he hasn't been able to outdrink, is his wife. She is widely known to be the best cook in the regiment. Sgm Goode once had a heart attack during his annual physical performance test. He didn't seek medical attention until after passing it in record time.

Regimental Commander Rebekah Wolfe. Orphaned daughter of renowned commander Adrian Wolfe, she has spent most of her career trying to earn her place on her own merits rather than her fathers reputation. Any fault she finds in her military skill is immediately remedied through study and training. Social functions are of little interest to her as they distract from bettering herself. Offered a chance to join one of the orders of the sisters militant, she declined, as she would rather put her faith into practice and training than in some god far away. She is the most skilled student of Doc Hardin in hand to hand fighting and has even managed to win a few times in combat against him. She has also been known to whack a young soldier or junior staff officer upside the head with her deactivated power maul on more than one occasion.

I had enough bits leftover to make half of two platoon commanders. I've got some scion legs I'll probably mount these guys on. So in total right now I have the commander, 2 platoon commanders, a command squad, a pair of valkyries I could requisition from my heretics, and Commisar Yarrick if I want to play Steel Legion.

I took an inventory after dechaosifying some guard stuff I was using for renegades. I currently have 1 company commander, 1 command squad, 2 valkyries with magnetized weapons, 2 Commisars, and 19.5 scions (1 tempestor prime, one command squad with medic, flag, and two plasma, one scion squad with two plasma, one scion squad with a melta and a grenade launcher, and 4.5 / 5ths of a third squad.), and Commisar Yarrick. I'm currently leaning towards Steel Legion. Have to wait and see what the rules are like for everyone.

I need to buy a few special weapons for the scions and 1 more complete scion to finish the squad, but I should be able to run a battalion of them if they can take a Commisar as an HQ.

I'd like to work up to six squads of infantry, so I may go with two start collecting boxes and go from there. I've wanted an artillery battery since 2001 when I started shooting artillery professionally. I think four basilisks would just look cool on the table if nothing else.

Messed around with my scions and ended up with enough for a minimum sized batallion. 2 tempestor Primes with power mauls and plasma pistols, 2 squads with power sword and plasma guns, 1 squad with chain sword and melta guns. I'll probably swap the chain sword for a power fist now that I think about it.

I've also got a medic and flag carrier if I want to run them in a command squad. I had to remove a melta gun from my guard to arm the scions, but I replaced it with a heavy flamer.

I've preordered the codex through my local store and ordered 10 cadian missile launchers. I plan on making four infantry squads with missile launchers and 2 x 3 missile launcher heavy weapon squads.

im aiming for a battalion with heavy weapon squads and infantry, backed up with scions and valkyries.

I'm thinking an Armageddon light ork fighter regiment consisting of Yarrick and a commander, 2 platoon commanders, 2 commissars, 4 infantry squads with missile launchers, 2 heavy weapon squads with missile launchers, a special weapon squad with flamers, a vindicate assassin, 2 valkyries, two scion tempestors and three squads of scions with plasma and melta.

No scheme yet. Kind of waiting for the codex to drop to pick a regiment.

According to the codex preview, a detachment can have multiple regiments (within some limits) without losing regiment special rules.

So you don't need to tie yourself to a specific regiment. Heck you could combine two regiments and give it your own colour scheme!

I've put together a list with everything I currently have and/or have on the way. I'm up to about 1500 points using the index

Yarrick, company commander, 2 commisars, 2 tempestor primes, 4 infantry squads, 1 special weapon squad, 1 command squad, 3 scion squads, 2 heavy weapon squads, Vindicare Assassin, and 2 Valkyries.

You would loose it. I plan on adding my eversor in a supreme command detatchment with 3 primaris psykers. Since the SCP is 3-5 hq, 0-1 elite and 0-1 LOW. useful to all those fun non regiments things and primaris psykers are not regiment anyway. so no loss!
